This is a solid grocery store right in the heart of Cape May. It is very easy to get to and has an adjoining parking lot. However, the lot is relatively small and serves a large number of outlets so I imagine in the summers it may get busier. It is free for the first half hour so try to shop fast. The inside is a little dated and reminded me of a small Gristedes or something from New York. That being said, they have most of your grocery and market essentials. I was tasked with ordering cold cuts. The relatively large order I put in was handled well but inefficiently. There were three people behind the counter and I was the only customer. However, I was only helped by one of the deli employees. It ended up taking me 20 minutes to get everything I needed. There wasn't really anything special I noticed about the market. They had a few beach-y items and some charcoal and ice to serve all those needs as well. Basically what you would expect of a beach grocery store.

Try the chicken salad made here. It is unique and yummy.

Going into Acme of Cape May is like going into any small town supermarket in America. They have the standard assortment of name branded groceries and the feel of a local market. The store is layed out with half a dozen registers up front and a dozen or so aisles behind them. At the back, you will find the deli counter. As a local, you could survive with this store but you wouldn't find bountiful choices like you would at a Wegmans or such. For the tourists, this store will fulfill your needs fine for your vacation home cooking. One of the terrific finds was at the deli counter where they offer a chicken salad made with fruit. We often get some whenever we come to Cape May. Parking is a shared lot with other local business. During summer months, as well as holiday times, you are offered 30 mins free parking but after that there is a nominal charge to discourage parking for other tourist attractions nearby.

Just bought a whole chicken which once cut into pieces turned out to be green inside. We did not cook it and thereby avoided being poisoned.

My husband is the peanut butter maven and he took home 2 of his favorite 32 oz jars of honey roasted peanut butter. They won't last too long for sure. They have another location in Smithville and you can also order via their website. And if you go this time of year, you can beat the crowds and enjoy the story even more! I ordered my Butterscotch peanut butter, capucino too. If you are a nut butter fanatic you must try their nut butters. The butterscotch may sound a bit off but I reassure you it's not too sweet at all and not entirely smooth. There is texture in these butters and you can tell that they have not been sitting around for too long and you will know when you look on the bottom of the jar it tells you when it was made! I promise you cannot go wrong. I ordered a few peanut butter cups as well and everything went fabulous! Considering I had 6 jars and 6 peanut butter cups each item was packaged perfectly and delivered on time and wrapped with such care I'm very pleased. If you are in the area the store is fun too! We figured we would get in an off-season dinner before the crowds come and that we did! We arrived just before they opened at 415 and hung out at the bar for a few minutes. Dinner is served at 430pm! The bar is open, so you can get drinks while you wait if you like. There is a full service bar and you can order from a plentiful wine and spirits menu. Our awesome server for our early dinner was Trisha, and she could not have been more hospitable! She was very personable, attentive and provided excellent service! She was just a delight. I ordered the Flounder special which was delicious - - each element in the dinner was great - and you can see all my coordinating photos. The dinner comes with a nice fresh -chilled salad and of course, the yummy hot, fresh onion bread! The flounder was cooked to perfection and those Fried String Beans, kinda like french fries were really good and very creative. They came with a nice "Petal Sauce" that is going to have me coming back again! Thank you, Trisha and Lobster House for a great pre-season dinner. It's nice to have the whole restaurant to yourself without the crowds! Get there before Memorial Day weekend for a nice treat! There's also an incredible fresh fish market attached where you can get anything and everything from a fish market you ever dreamed about. They also have a decadent area with so many drool-worthy desserts that you can take out along with your seafood. All in all, Lobster House is a great local favorite that has consistently great seafood and service.

It gives you a whole new appreciation for it, for how it's been able to not only last and stay pretty much the same across decades, making the nostalgia hit just a bit harder. People who have aversion to crowds probably read that and think I'm insane, and I wouldn't blame you. I can't think of a time when that place isn't a mad house. It's frantic, there are multiple queues all over the place, people are shouting, fish is flying, tables are being sniped. There's always some parent yelling at their kid or in-law to get over to some table 100 yards away they just happened to see open up. You have half a dozen poor grandmas sitting at a table all alone, feeling the pressure. The pressure and eyes of every other family waiting for a table bearing down on them. So yes, for certain people, every visit would be a nightmarish hell. Like think about the introverted pescatarians, they must be completely torn on this place. Even with the prominent signage, it's easy to get disoriented in the market-style layout. One time I waited 15 minutes for a softshell crab sandwich in front of a parking validation kiosk. Just remember there are two sets of bathrooms, one near the entrance and one lesser used one in the back. That is one benefit of sitting farther down the pier and not feeling bad about it. There is no such thing as a bad seat at TLH. Eventually once I did locate my softshell crab sandwich, I enjoyed it's soft, crab-like texture. Well, enjoyed is a strong word. Let's just say that will be my first and definitely last time I ever order softshell crab. I like crab, but, while soft, I do not enjoy the texture of the shell. It's like these thin sheets of leather strips. It's probably my fault, it's not like it's called "no shell" crab, but I think maybe they overdo it with the "soft" angle. Anyways, once I pivoted to a classic burger, all was well again. And I got more of those bangin' thick-cut steak fries. On this particular visit my two companions got an assortment of crab claws, fried calamari, clams casino, and the rest of my softshell crab, so yeah, everyone did pretty well for themselves. Also snagged a prime table right in the thick of things, on the pier in front of The Schooner, which doubles as a sailing vessel and outdoor cocktail lounge. Just another fine summer memory to look back fondly on.

In hindsight I wish had asked about the Beach Plum dressing because I think it might have been a fun add to my pantry. Love the Cook is home to Cape May Roasters so you can also buy coffee here. You can get a fresh cup or a bag of whole beans or ground coffee to go. For those who prefer tea they carry an assortment of Republic of Tea teas which are great quality. Which I think owns Acme. I think this because the store brand name of Signature Select is the same as Tom Thumb's/Albertsons. Like I was saying it has lots of fresh fruits, veggies, pasta, dairy, lunch meats and anything you need to cook a meal for yourself or others. The people who helped me out at the deli, seafood and cashiers were all very nice. I will shop here again when I need to, instead of paying lots more money to eat out. Lastly, they don't sell booze here. Which is state thing I suppose. Which is ok because there is a beer/wine/liquor store across the street. Overall a great place to go grocery shopping.

I probably could've stopped at some large grocery store on the way down but I didn't. I was wrangling kids and trying to make the last few business calls so I could shut my phone off for a measly few hours and enjoy the surf here in Wildwood, New Jersey. Instead of patronizing the many restaurants, delis, snack shack's and other food establishments, I decided to stop here and load up on some supplies so we could have breakfast in our room and make lunch for the beach. I was not disappointed. Acme is your standard small grocery store. Prices are higher, of course, because we are here at the beach. I'm sure that I could've driven 20 minutes away to someplace in Rio Grande but I would've just spent that same amount in gas and time. The store was clean and well organized and had everything I needed. My cashier Cassie was a delight to talk with at the time of checkout. Thankfully, acme takes credit cards and you should bear that in mind because many, many places in Wildwood are cash only. One small issue, no paper bags available. Like many grocery stores, acme has gone to recyclable only. Back home, I can pay for a paper bags if I forget my stash of recyclable ones. Here, it's by the bags or rows. They were kind of cool looking with some nice floral and fruit designs so I added to my list. In the future, make sure you've got a bunch of recyclable bags in your trunk.
