Sometimes, throwing parties for hundreds, nay, thousands of people means needing a lot of ice. And when those parties are beer tastings, a lot becomes a metric buttload. Don't question - butts are absolutely metric. A call, a credit card number and a name on file means 40lb bags of wet ice delivered at $9 a pop. Grocery store fivers cost at least $2, so wholesale + delivery at just over 60% retail is a steal. They understandably run a bit more Brookline Ice, with an added 10lb of cocktail cubes atop the competition's 30lb base bag. Logistically, sometimes it's a little hard to tell if a truck and driver are available ("Call us back in 30 minutes"), but even on short notice, these cats are cooler than cool about getting goods gone. Expensive real estate for a business that doesn't care about its retail presence at all. Previous review 18 months ago: Went to get ice on a Saturday night at dinner time. We explained our needs to a guy I now affectionately refer to as the "ice man," and he told us how much we needed, how to pack it, and what to do with it. I've been debating how many stars I wanted to give... it came down to 2.5, rounded up to 3. First off, the service was friendly and fast. We drove up and someone helped us right away, listened to what we needed, shoveled us some dry ice, we paid and then we were on our way. Took like 5 minutes. So why the 2.5 stars? For a place that specializes in and has dry ice in their name, it would be nice if their workers were actually knowledgeable on it... We went there needing dry ice to last one and half days for a long drive. I did some research online before-hand and was seeing that dry ice sublimates at a rate of 5-10 lbs per 24 hours, however we asked the guy how much we would need and he recommended only 6 lbs. In my head, I knew that was too little, but I didn't argue it or ask for more because I figured "Hey, they are the dry ice experts." Well, he was wrong. So very very wrong. By the first 12 hours, it was practically all gone. The next day by morning, the cooler was completely empty. Luckily, there was another place on the way where we could get more to keep our stuff frozen for the remainder of the trip. So when it comes down to it, really quick service, but do your own research on how much dry ice you should get for your needs. After waiting for ages, was passed to another, ruder person and asked the very same questions only to be told they'd charge me $70 for a couple of bags. I called Acme Ice in a complete jam. It was a Saturday night around 6:00 PM on a hot July night. The freezer where I was storing about $50,000 worth of inventory had malfunctioned and my landlord informed me I should remove my frozen product as the temperature was rising in the freezer. I started calling dry ice companies in a panic and the owner of Acme Dry Ice answered my call. He met me around 10:00 at night with 600 pounds of dry ice.
