I'll start by saying I previous have not had an issue with this practice. The hygienist and receptionists are very friendly. With that said, I'm never going back to Ackerman & Assoc.. I was there Monday of this week for a filling.. They let some of the filling liquid (or something) leak into my throat while they were doing the filling (I felt the burning but couldn't do anything because of all the equipment in my mouth) and it left the skin in my throat with a chemical burn which has since turned into a canker sore in my throat where the burning was. They also allowed some of the liquid to leak on my upper gums, causing the same result. read more

My first appointment, which was last summer, here was great. The staff was friendly and they answered all of my questions. Before I left, I made an appointment with the receptionist 6 months out. My most recent appointment was scheduled for 8am and I arranged to come late into work. I arrived 10 minutes early and went to the office door, but it was locked. So I waited outside. 8am came and went. Still, the office was locked and no one came. I tried calling and the phone rang and went to voicemail. By 8:15 no one had arrived yet and I decided to not wait any longer. I called the office again and left a message. Unfortunately, no one from the office has called back and returned my message. It was very frustrating because not only did I miss a couple of hours of work, but now I have to take off more time when I find another dentist. Do yourself a favor and AVOID this dentist office! The location is weird - inside an old apartment building. The place itself is tiny and creepy. I got a bad feeling just walking in the door. The hygienist was nice enough but the dentist was awful. He was obnoxious, full of himself, didn't do ANYTHING for me on my first visit except creep me out with inappropriate compliments. I'd rather not have a middle aged man compliment my freckles while investigating deep inside my mouth. Maybe that's just me, though. read more

I honestly don't think this is the best dentist I've been too, this is why I changed to another dentist! I know for a fact that not wearing a "white suit" like every doctor does is normal. I think that must be Violating some type of law or something. I came in here for a cleaning and I realized how tiny the place was and saw that the doctor was talking to the dental assistant about the patient the dental assistant was with. like what? that's rude. I saw Dr. Sumad and I had a wonderful experience. I needed a pretty extensive procedure and I was terrified to go through with it. I imagined the pain, the drill, etc and wanted to postpone the appt. Dr. Sumad called me and put my mind at ease. I went in that same day. I have never had a MORE PLEASANT experience in the dentist chair. He is THE BEST DENTIST that I have ever been to. I trust him completely when he says "no pain". I'm so happy with Dr. Sumad. After a lifetime of being afraid of the dentist, I have finally found one that can help me. I've made additional appointments and I look forward to seeing him. (I can't even believe I'm saying that). I HIGHLY recommend him. Amazing quality! It took me 8 years to find a dentist as great as my family dentist back home. I love going to the dentist and am very picky. Ackerman & Associates does a fantastic job thoroughly cleaning your teeth making them feel squeaky clean without any discomfort. They educate you while they clean. On top of this, they are ALL incredibly friendly. My husband was going to this practice before I started and on my first visit they treated me like family. I brought my infant son to another appointment and they gave us a bib for him! I know it's advertising for them but it is still precious. read more

I have had nothing but problems with this dentist. I scheduled a cleaning and found out that I could only see a dental hygienist on the first visit. I wanted to talk to the dentist about a chip in my tooth and getting an apoxy done. I had to pay for the fluoride treatment, which they do not tell you is not covered by insurance until after they do it. Then I had a second appointment and I saw the dentist. They take tons of photographs, some which are not covered by insurance, and then they try to sell you night guards and electric toothbrushes. I refuse to go back and have yet to have them fix anything! I do not recommend this dentist practice at all. The front desk people are also quite rude. read more

Dr Samad is the best Dentist I have ever had in my 51 year on this planet! He understand I do not like coming to the dentist and explain what's going on and takes his time! My husband & I are patients here and both of us have had good experiences, esp. in the face of adversity. Let me explain: a periodontist in Dr. Ackerman's old practice did a bad job on an area of my gums and he redid the surgery for free. And my husband broke a tooth on Dr. Samad's day off; Dr. Samad called him on his cell and offered to come in! Their hygentists are both excellent as well as the both of their assistants and front desk staff. The office might be in an unusual location, but their equipment appears to be state of the art, & they open on Saturdays occasionally. Honestly, it was as enjoyable an experience as I've had at a dentist. That seemed worth the five stars, even though going to the dentist always sucks on some level. I'm really surprised at some of the negative reviews on here and would like to note that there are some people who will always find a reason to complain--like when a lunatic believes a dentist has violated a federal law by not wearing a "white suit." But apparently that's an actual thing...that an actual person...that actually exists...actually believes. Will the wonders of the Millennial generation never cease? Unfortunately, it seems they will not. Given my experience and that of those around me, I find it extremely hard to believe the outright accusations of rudeness or inappropriate behavior by the women who work there--I can't recall her name, but the dentist I saw was a woman too. Every member of the staff was exceptionally friendly and courteous, and I didn't have to wait particularly long at any point. It ended up that I needed some additional minor work done and they were able to do it right away, rather than having me return at a later date. I also had an insurance hiccup and the woman who handles that was both pleasant and patient while I figured out the issue, which was easily resolved. I was proactive in asking for the pricing up front on the required procedure, which they provided without hesitation and paused everything until I was sure I wanted to go forward. Ultimately I decided to go elsewhere for whitening because their Zoom pricing isn't terribly competitive, but other than that, I'd definitely recommend this practice. My boyfriend is planning to make an appointment this week. And as for the location being "inside an apartment building," it's a massive building on a main road in Alexandria and the first floor happens to be commercial property--I have no idea why that would be considered objectionable. Perhaps it's just more difficult to find a dentist that suits all your needs when you expect them to wear a costume, provide an expansive office space on the top floor of a downtown commercial high rise, and possess the appropriate level of humility so as not to offend your delicate sensibilities with accidental pompousness or underwhelming humbleness...OR you have a mouth full of disgusting dental problems because you're weirdly adverse to electric toothbrushes. I don't usually go out of my way to right such detailed reviews, particularly of medical services, but I believe that they're being misrepresented by a few self-involved jags who can't pay their medical bills and/or they think they're so effortlessly stunning with their mouths wide open that they mistake awkward small talk for "creeping" or "perving." Guess what, people aren't jealous of you, they genuinely hate you. So these needlessly shitty people write needlessly shitty things about businesses on the internet to make themselves feel important, if only for a fleeting moment. If you've never been there, I suggest that you check it out for yourself rather than relying the word of people who have written between 100 and 500 Yelp reviews. Seriously...let those numbers wash over you for a moment. And if that number looks familiar to you, I suggest that you take a long hard look back at some of the bad decisions that have led you to such a sad place in this life. read more

The staff here is great! Friendly and accommodating. My husband has been a patient for a couple of years. My husband was in NY on a business trip and had a terrible toothache. I called and spoke to Sechelle she was able to send a prescription to NY for him and schedule an appointment for him as soon as he returned. I recently became a patient and I have had the same caring experience as he had. Sechelle, Bella, Dental Assistant and Hygienist (their names eludes my memory ) and Dr. Ubee are all great. Looking for a dentist in Alexandria, VA? Keep on looking, unless you are ready for months of hassles as they try to figure out their own billing system. Its been well over a year and I still get bills that are so obviously incorrect that I get emails from employee personal email accounts apologizing (which at least there is that) and confirming the actual balance.....and yet I still get threatening letters in the mail suggesting that I am overdue in my payments. This place is an absolute mess. Its a shame because the Ackerman and Associates purchased the previous practice from an unbelieveable dentist who valued his customers. AVOID at all costs! If you are trying to find a dentist for your child, yourself, or anyone you care about you will not consider this place. This so-called dentist holds his practice in an apartment building (1st warning). Staff seems friendly enough. Then the "dentist" had no bed-side manners which isn't a requisite but was trying to find a child-friendly dentist...he's very gruff and expects you to have no say. Will not allow parents in the room with child (2nd red flag). I am no helicopter parent but did not feel comfortable leaving my child in the room alone with him. When I told him that I have no need to speak and he can do what he does but prefer to stay in the room for my toddler's first appointment he yelled at me that this is his practice. I do not get offended easily by any means but my spidey senses say no f'n way and walked out right then!! read more

As I read some of the poor reviews below my post. I am in shock! This dentist office is so AMAZING that I had to create a Yelp account to write a review. I normally hate going to the dentist, but this office made me feel very comfortable. Everyone from the front desk to the dentist were nothing but helpful. My tooth was causing me excruciating pain, they wasted no time getting an x-ray done and finding a best solution. Dr. Samad and his assistant Yodit are a dream team, they both had no problem explaining my root canal procedure and making sure I was comfortable. Circumstances would not allow me to pay the out of pocket price for my procedure and management was more than understanding an willing to work with me. All the accommodations made for me by this office assured me that getting the proper treatment for my teeth is their main priority. Did I also mention that they give a flower to all the women who get treated there?! This place ROCKS, I cannot wait until my son is old enough to visit this office. I agree with a previous review. If I could give MINUS stars to this office, I would. I recently purchased a Living Social voucher and had a few questions about the practice and the services described in the voucher. When I called, the receptionist, Bella, or office manager, Saysha (not sure exactly who answered because no name was given), put me on hold for almost seven minutes. When no one came on the line, I then called back. This time someone picked up and quickly hung up the phone without saying a word. I waited a few minutes and called again (blocking my number). Saysha answered, so I told her what just happened. She became very defensive, hemmed and hawed for a couple of minutes, and then offered a rather back-handed apology. I pointed out several negative online reviews, to which she replied, " I don't appreciate being talked to this way." Really?? It was my turn to hang up. For those reading this who are holding similar vouchers, go back to Living Social or the like and request a full refund. Tell them to stop selling deals for such miserable merchants to unsuspecting consumers. There's power in numbers, people. If enough of us speaks out, they will have to listen. read more

No assembly line dentistry here it is an intimate office where you always feel important and understood. STAY AWAY! The first time I had a filling but in the middle of the procedure, Dr. Ackerman pulled out the window to yell at an employee outside with his gloves still on then he stuck his hand back in my mouth WITHOUT CHANGING HIS GLOVES. A simple filling gave me many weeks of discomfort too. Then I was dumb enough to allow him to put a crown on a tooth ( he scared by saying if he didn't do a crown on that tooth, I'd need a root canal) but after 2 tries on the permanent crown, messing with my tooth several times and weeks wasted, I developed an abscess and a bump by that tooth. Before I developed an abscess, I felt some weird feeling on my gums but when I brought it up with his staff and him, they did not do anything to help me !!!Then after the abscess, when I went back in, he said now I need a ROOT CANAL on that newly crowned tooth after all.
