The room was spacious and comfortable, we had a decent view of the city, it was not perhaps as quiet as it could have been - we may have been above the bar area because we could here the bass going and music playing, although it stopped before midnight. We urgently needed to check our email that night and there was no internet access on the premises, surprisingly - their one internet terminal was out of service. However, the front desk staff called us a cab to take us to the closest internet cafe, which turned out to be quite dodgy but that is another story. The staff are what makes this hotel stand out from the many others we stayed at during our two week trip in the UK - they were all unfailingly friendly, courteous, helpful.

Breakfast was amazing and bountiful and served in this great Victorian room with all the Victorian stuff people used to stuff in their rooms to show wealth. There is free internet but it didn't reach my room at the top, but that was ok, the little sitting room (conservatory?) was comfortable and fine to relax in. The owners were nice and attentive. The location was not close enough to the train station for an easy walk, but was close to the castle and other Cardiff sights.

Both my elder brother and…read moremyself have neglected to have families, but my younger brother, who lives in Lieden, has done the honours. So, my mother promptly decided to up-sticks and move there too. I usually visit a couple of times a year, but my mother likes to come to the UK every now and again. Last year I was living just outside Cardiff, in a beautiful rural setting, whilst I completed a short contract for the place I was staying at. My mum decided to visit before the contract expired. I sent her details of a few hotels and B & B's. Out of these, she decided that she preferred the sound of Regan Hotel, the family run, Victorian Terrace, on Cathedral Road, which is close to the entrance to the park. The fact it was near to the park was a clincher. This meant that she could amble into town via a beautiful route, and be there in about 15 minutes or so. She wasn't going to hire a car so the fact that the hotel is on a main road with double yellows out front didn't factor into her decision making process. Decision made, she was all ready to book a room when my mother inadvertently chose the wrong site and stumbled across a pretty damning review for the hotel. (She isn't the deftest Internet user!) The review, posted on Trip Advisor, told of a couple that had been locked out all night and were ultimately forced to sleep in their car. That was it! Wild horses wouldn't drag her there after that!

We had a lovely, bright, airy room (with a very comfortable mattress for a good night's sleep). All rooms are en-suite with tea and coffee facilities. Mark and Simon are wonderful hosts, providing a great welcome and excellent breakfast - nothing is too much trouble. A big plus is the indoor heated swimming pool, which we used every day (a great facility for families on a grey day). I'm sure we'll be returning! Strongly recommended.
