At first the sessions were great! The tutors were effective and my daughter made a lot of progress in a short period of time. Honestly, I was very happy with the results of the tutoring sessions, and as a result, decided to have my daughter receive Spanish tutoring. I contacted Total Tutoring and organized for a spanish tutor to come to my house for weekly lessons. These sessions were scheduled for 30 minutes at the request of the tutor due to my daughters young age. The lessons began in September of last year, and as of today, she does not understand the phrase "Hola, como estas?". Needless to say her progress has been minimal. During the time my daughter has been receiving lessons from her tutor, Nannette Simmons, I noticed that she was consistently showing up late and leaving early which is discouraging considering the cost of each lesson. I contacted the agency to express my concerns and asked for a different tutor. I was told by Total Tutoring that they would try to find someone new to replace Nannette. Yesterday (December 2nd), the tutor again showed up late, so I decided to set a 30 minute timer. No surprise, the tutor was leaving early. I informed Nannette that should would no longer be tutoring my daughter and told her it was because she was consistently showing up late and leaving early. After each tutoring session we receive an email with a session summary; this is meant to highlight progress and address areas of weakness for my daughter to work on. I received the session report for the final summary and it was blank. I contacted Total Tutoring, cc'ing Nannette, expressing my opinion that this was unprofessional. I received an update session summary which was even more unprofessional!!! Nannette's updated session summary placed the blame entirely on my daughter!!! She took no responsibility for her actions. I responded to Total Tutoring again, extremely upset with the unprofessionalism shown by Nannette. Total Tutoring's reply was that they should have edited her comments before sending them to me. They took no responsibility for Nannette and did not acknowledge her unprofessionalism even knowing my frustration. They did not apologize for her comments, only stating I should not have seen them. Total Tutoring would get a higher review because they do have some good tutors, but customer service is key to me. I need professionalism and I need a good example for my daughter. I am active duty military and I have zero tolerance for adults who place blame everywhere but on themselves while taking no time for self-reflection. Varsity Tutors appears to come across as a professional and well thought out support program for…read morehelping students achieve SAT testing objectives - but in reality it is a sales platform with mediocre tutors and horrible customer service. One of my daughter's tutors actually told her to use the Princeton Review content as it was better than Varsity Tutor content. The Tutors were ambivalent about setting work in between sessions and even about booking next session. In fact, initial tutor had to change schedule that was in conflict with my daughter's sport practices - and we lost 4 hours of tutoring completely. I had been promised additional hours back and a new tutor when I called into customer service but then received an email stating that the hours would not be credited after further review. My daughters score did improve - but I think that was mostly due to her dillegence on practicing the test. Finally, we had signed up for 3 months - but then kept getting charged and was told it is non refundable. Don't buy into the marketing - get your kids in a Princeton Review session or even better a live in person option.
