After "Sandy" I did a lot of research on Portable generators. Many people recommended the Honda 3000Is. My buddy purchased one less than 3 years ago from Ace Tool and I purchased one about a year ago from the same dealer. This generator cost close to $2,000.00 and being it was a Honda we were expecting that they would stand by their product. We don't use the generator a lot as it was purchased to be a stand by in case we lost electricity. We were both told by the salesmen that all we had to do, to maintain this generator when not in use, is to put maybe a 25 second pour ( about 45 mins) of High test gas in it and let it run until it stopped. We were both diligent in the maintenance. 2 months ago my friends generator would not start at all. The electric starter sounded like it wanted to turn over, but would not. It would not even start with the pull cord! He brought it back to Ace Tool and was told, if it was a gas issue it was not covered under the warranty. He was also told it would be repaired and ready in about 2 weeks! He waited almost a month and still no call from Ace Tool. He contacted them a few times and still not ready. Finally after 2 months he went down to Ace Tool to find out what was going on. The salesman then told him, "Oh yes, it's ready". My friends question was why did it take 2 months, and why was I not called and told that it is ready? They gave no clear answer, but lo and behold it was according to them a gas issue and they charged him $109.00 for the part! They brought out my friends Generator and it would not start with the key. The salesman then had the nerve to tell him that because it was laying around so long waiting to be repaired that the battery must have died ( no longer covered under the warranty). They didn't even offer to charge the battery for him. On top of that, the Generator was not in the same shape he brought it down to them in. There were scratches all over the panels and scratches all over the paint. He contacted Honda themselves and they told him he should go back to Ace Tool and request new panels. Fat chance of that!! The battery in my Honda 3000is died after 1 year. No longer covered under the warranty, but one thing I know for sure I will not be bringing it back to Ace Tool. I'll recharge it myself! If anyone is reading this review, there are 2 things you should take away from it, (1) Don't spend $2,000.00 on a Honda generator when you can probably get one a lot cheaper that does the same things. (2) Do not under any circumstances by a big ticket items from Ace Tool! read more
