Underhanded business practices and price gouging. That's all you need to know about Ace Roofing. Following Hurricane Florence, my roof had sustained some extremely minor damage, and I took that as an opportunity to seek a quote for a full replacement. Ace was the third local roofing company that we contacted for a quote (in an attempt to see how the market was following the hurricane), and they were by far the most unpleasant to work with. The Ace representative who came out for the appraisal, Brent, was extremely quick to ask my if I had filed an insurance claim and wanted to see it for himself. This should have been my clue to politely decline his services, but I am a firm believer in giving everyone a fair chance. I understand the goal of a salesman is to make a sale, so I chose to forgive his unorthodox and aggressive attempts to obtain a copy of my homeowner's insurance claim. It was his promise that they would do the repair for exactly what the claim said, "and not a cent more." As I attempted to explain to him that the insurance company's assessment should not factor into the cost of his services he continued to assert that he was "doing me a favor" and "on my side." We finally agreed that he would give me a standard quote, and I would have the option to choose between his price and the insurance company's "even though it will probably be higher than what the insurance company gave you." Following this exchange, we stepped outside, and he looked at the roof for approximately 45 seconds before going back inside to tout the quality of his shingles. Approximately one week later I received a non-itemized quote that was $2900 higher than the highest quote I had received so far. When I told Brent that I was waiting on one final quote, he once again brought up the insurance company, and despite my best attempts to explain to him that I thought the two should be separate he became defensive and rude.
I gave this company every attempt to do fair and honest business, but they were more interested in squeezing every cent from the community that has been ravaged so severely by Hurricane Florence. I would never give them a cent or trust them to touch my home, and I highly recommend that everyone avoid their underhanded business. read more
