I endured the most horrific experience of my life at Ace Oral Surgery today. I suffer from severe anxiety, as well as other underlying chronic pain disease. I had 2 extractions done by Ace oral a few months ago, and was pleased. The dentist was kind and very competent in autoimmune disorders and anxiety and treatments. He prescribed me anxiety medicine for this procedure, and I followed his directions. Overall, the procedure went well, barely overcoming my anxiety. The dental assistant was fabulous, caring, and kind. Now, today I went in for a tooth to be extracted. This time the dentist prescribed another type of anxiety medicine for my second procedure. Again, I followed his directions on how to take this medication. I did this and my daughter walked me in. The receptionist laughed at me as my daughter walked me in to the procedure room. She told my daughter to wait to see if the surgeon was going to perform my extraction. I sat in the office and waited for the dentist as his assistant numbed my mouth. When the dentist walked in he said, "Are you ready?" I cried and asked if I can take a half of one of the medication to help ease my increased panic. He became upset, saying, "No No No, you are drunk." You are not getting any more. I replied, "I am not drunk, I am nervous." He went on to say , "You are a problem patient and get off of my chair." I got up still half loopy and cried for my daughter who was waiting in the office area. He accused me of trying to manipulate him. He called me a drug addict. I am a teacher and not a drug addict. I felt that this dentist insulted me and brought me severe distress. I do not want anyone else to endure this behavior, especially when they are in pain. I have an appointment with another dentist and oral surgeon. After all of this, I pray for the dentist and his staff who lack compassion and judge people by their beliefs. read more

I needed an extraction which was covered by my insurance. So, I went to Ace Oral Surgeons. The dentist wanted me to be sedated via IV so that I "would be comfortable." Concerned, I asked if anesthesia was completely necessary as I've had molars extracted previously & not required anesthesia. And, this wasn't even a molar or wisdom tooth. To be placed unconscious seemed, to me, not necessary. My dental plan agreed. They cover everything except the sedation (Why? Because it's very expensive & often not necessary. Esp. in my case.). His office staff told me, flat out, that I needed to cough-up $850 immediately, then & there, and consent to the anesthesia before any work would be done. The dentist refused to extract the tooth unless he was getting $850 + whatever the insurance's share. I said, "bye bye." Came home & called another doc. One thing I noticed was how small their office was and that there were no patients. Now, I know why. Suggested more work that needed to be done and said my insurance wouldn't cover it. I called my insurance and they said it was covered. They made it seem like they wouldn't do the work unless I had this extra expensive work done. This was for my brother and he needed a tooth extracted bad. So he left still in pain a nod upset because he couldn't get his tooth pulled that was giving him the worst pain because they said he needed something cosmetic done as well. read more

My boyfriend contacted these people asking if they took his insurance and they told him they do take HMO's. What the idiot of a receptionist forgot to mention when he made his appointment was that he FIRST needed a referral. (Please note he is young and in school and on his moms insurance and was not aware of this process with HMOs). Anyways, he made his appointment and when the time came, he showed up, was seen by the oral surgeon to assess the fact that he needs his wisdom teeth out. When he got out of the appointment, and went to the front desk he was told his insurance was in fact not covered because he did not get a referral. WTF??? So basically you charged him $300 + dollars to see the doctor not making him aware BEFOREHAND that his insurance wasnt accepted. I called up there and gave this receptionist a piece of my mind. She ADMITTED they messed up saying thats why they allowed him to only pay half the money there and half later. I said why wouldnt you check his insurance before he went back to see the doctor and I was told, "well we called him and got no answer". Are you kidding me? He didnt answer your call prior BUT WHEN HE ARRIVED WHY WAS HE NOT TOLD THEN. These people are scam artists. The dumb broad told him to go back and see the doctor meanwhile her dumb self was checking his info. She shouldve done that well before he saw the doctor. It doesnt end there. So time has passed and to be honest we did not make the other payment because in my mind they dont deserve it. The doctor saw him all of 10 minutes just to tell us he needs his wisdom teeth out which we already knew. So we didnt want to pay them nothing else considering they basically lied and allowed him to go through with an appointment knowing his insurance wouldnt pay. THEY TOOK THE MONEY OUT OF HIS ACCOUNT YESTERDAY OVERDRAFTING THE ACCOUNT AND NOT RECEIVING ANY AUTHORIZATION TO DO SO. Son went in for wisdom teeth removal and noticed a day after that his front tooth was chipped. It was not chipped prior to wisdom teeth being removed. Called office and was told they would look at it at follow up appt. When brought up at follow up appt Dr Frer denied that it is even possible to chip a tooth during procedure. I'm in the medical profession and know using metal instruments and pulling teeth out there is always a possibility that you could chip a tooth while pulling. He could of admitted that this might of happened and fixed it or arranged to have it fixed. The tooth was chipped somehow there not at home. read more

DO NOT GO to Ace Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery! I was referred to this oral surgeon, who is in network, by my regular dentist. After an evaluation and xray, I was told It would cost $2,200 to have 4 teeth removed. They claimed that my dental insurance wouldn't cover 2 of the teeth because they were deemed medically necessary and that would have to go to my medical insurance (I have a high deducible plan & hadn't reached the deductible so basically I would have to pay the whole thing). After calling both dental insurance & medical insurance and other dentists & this oral surgeons office several times, it came out that they didn't even bother to check my dental insurance because they might not be accepting that insurance any more! They never bothered to tell me that. I went to another in network oral surgeon and only paid $355 after dental benefits. Do not go to this oral surgeon! read more

hi I experienced the same at his office tried to rip us off with more work didn't even call the ins preceded to extract my wifes teeth put her in pain then he stops and says we need to put her to sleep that would cost me thousand dollars I call the ins they said we pay as long as he notes it down but they didn't they lied then he tells me to find another provider I did and he the job and he didn't have to put her to sleep he needs to be reported to the better business and attorney general office please beware horrible office read more

I am not surprised by the one star reviews. I went through an ordeal with this office. My son needed his wisdom teeth extracted. I was told I didn't have full coverage on dental and had to pay over $2000 up front. What could I do? I was at the office and my son was in pain. I paid and later spoke with my ex who has the insurance. I was only supposed to pay about $300 out of pocket. What followed was a merry go round of wrong billing codes, the same tooth marked as extracted twice, overcharges on anesthesia (he was in the room for about 20 minutes, they charged for 45 minutes).... I would call constantly and ask about the bill and was told to call my insurance. Insurance (who were very nice and helpful) told me the office had to resubmit the bill. I would call the office again and the billing person was never there or always busy. i would be promised a call back and nothing. I finally disputed the charges with my credit card company as well as contacting the BBB and the Attorney General. It took about 2 months to get it solved. The office did tell me that they like to charge up front before taking insurance into consideration. I will NEVER go to this horrible office again and make sure I tell everyone just how bad it is. read more

Beware - I'm not sure if this office is cheating "only" their clients or if they are also cheating the insurance company as well. My son was quoted a price but never given anything in writing. VERY strange for an oral surgeon not to give a patient treatment plan. This in itself is standard with a regular dentists. The week of surgery my son was quote a different price for out of pocket, much higher. I then told him we weren't paying anything without looking at the patient treatment plan. A while later I received an email treatment plan. The treatment plan was dated that day not the day of consultation - huge red flag. This treatment plan was JUST created. They were double charges for 3 different teeth - $1,000 higher than should have been) Apparently they were in such a hurry to make something up that they didn't proofread their plan. THEN the price in an hour went up $2,500 more dollars than my son was quote on the phone. The way our insurance works is if we go to a dentist in-network we get charged their standard fee and then we get a discount for being in network. He was have extensive work done and the treatment plan said we would be charged total $15,550 - with an oop cost $8,486 (they gave us a "discount" and took the max our insurance would pay of $2,550 - to come up with this number). I called our insurance company with the codes Ace provided had them run their numbers with the discounts that we were to get. That total was $5,460 and this was BEFORE insurance paid out their $2,500 max. Our oop would have been $2,960. When I called to speak with them about this was told they don't have to discount everything since we will max out the insurance for the year.. YES YOU DO!! You joined this plan and agreed with the insurance company to provide these services at this rate. This place is deceiving, changing numbers and taking advantage of people and possibly the insurance company as well. I feel bad for people who aren't as knowledgeable as I am about insurance - they are completely ripping them off. I am reporting them to everyone and anyone who will listen. STAY AWAY! read more

After reading some of these other postings, I see I am in the same situation with this doctor. I had a bad tooth that needed to be pulled. I asked all the right questions and contacted my insurance company and this office was very deceptive in there practices. They lied to me on several occasions regarding the doctor, what was covered and refused to give me name of the anesthesiologist. They told me that they don't bill my medical insurance that I had to file myself even though they had me sign a medical waiver stating that I could not. They demanded I pay up front $800.00 on day of surgery. I will be letting my dental office know to which they work out of regarding this deceptive practice. read more

Great place if you want to spend 20 minutes making your appointment, then waiting for 40 minutes before you are greeted And asked to fill out paperwork. And this is just for a consultation. Based on this alone, we won't use this practice. read more

I would never recommend this office, I had two insurances for my daughter they still made me take out a loan to get my daughters 4 wisdom teeth pulled, assured me that I would never have to pay on the loan, needless to say had two payments out, and had to fight to get my money that they owed me because both insurances paid out in full. Surgery was done in May and was lied to for months about insurance not paying when they actually had, my imsurance actually called them. Awful place!! Wouldn't even give them one star, they deserve none!!! read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars!!! First of the people there are rude and unprofessional, secondly they nickle and dime you for everything. I had an absess on one of my wisdom teeth, I was told that the 2 teeth on that side were going to be removed first and the other side later so he didn't risk infection on the other side. Well after the consult they said they would call me the next day with how much it was going to be. That next day the dental assistant called me and told me that insurance didn't cover much and it would be $1,100 for TWO TEETH!!! At this point I was annoyed by how much pain I was in that I yelled at her and then hung up on her. 2 days later I ended up seeing an oral surgeon for a consult, getting ALL 4 WISDOM TEETH REMOVED THE SAME DAY and only paid $250 for my entire visit and that's including surgery costs!!! This place is absolutely terrible and I will recommend them to no one! I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up shutting down since it looks like they nickle and dime everyone. read more

My husband took our daughter to this oral surgery office to have a consult to have her wisdom teeth removed. As he was talking to the surgeon about our daughter, the surgeon noticed that my husband had a lump on his lip and asked him about it. How long had it been there, does he smoke, etc. Within the week my husband had a biopsy done at this office and my daughter had her wisdom teeth removed, by 2 different surgeons. I can say that the surgeries went great and my husband has now been referred to a different doctor since the biopsy came back questionable. We would have never thought to have this lump looked at if this surgeon never brought to our attention. Both surgeons were wonderful. After now reading other reviews, i don't understand. We did have to pay out of pocket for some treatment and anesthesia. I called our dental insurance to verify what the front office girls had told us about our out of pocket amount. And those girls were right. IV sedation was not covered because our insurance said it wasn't, because of "guidelines" but both surgeries needed to be done. We had a great experience here.
