Okay, so, first and foremost..I'm a mark for warm cookies. If there were some sort of spy program where what they used to break you were warm cookies, I might be hard pressed to enlist in the FBI/CIA version of patriot shenanigans. I'm saying that I like them. Cookies=good. And they were passing them out like they were..well..warm cookies yesterday at Ace Mart. One of the weird byproducts of my work is that it occasionally brings me to places like this, and I can't say for certain whether they were all hands on deck by virtue of the fact that I caught them on the right day or perhaps there was some sort of training program going on. I just know that the place was super well staffed, had *tons* of material that any restauranteur (or for that matter, foodie) would flip over. On this day I had a pretty simple set of things I was after and they were able to point me to them in short order. But they were personable enough that I ended up rapping (not literally) with one of the managers for about twenty minutes and found out lots more about how they operate. And Jaye's pretty savvy for stopping in here...there are some killer sauce pans to be had. I'll be back. read more

I've got two on-going projects. One is to make my house look like an adult lives here before my sis and bro-in-law visit for Christmas. I bought some new furniture (see my review of Rooms-to-Go) and built a giant oak table for my formal dining room. I bought 2 table bases from Ace Mart for that project (see my Spillar review for how I got them cut to the right length). My second project is for our Departmental "Holiday" party this coming weekend. Our department has gotten large, so we're doing a partly potluck dinner (the dept will buy turkey, ham, and some sides, and dept members will provide the rest) so we can accommodate spouses and children without it costing a fortune . I bought 2 on-sale chafing dishes to keep things warm, and extra pans for them of different sizes. I also picked up a ladle, some serving spoons and tongs, Sterno-type fuel for the chafing dishes, and a new cutting board for me. I like cooking for groups, so this is my chance to go wild (this is what "wild" turns into when you're an old bachelor). If you love cooking equipment (and I do), and lean toward an industrial design, then this is the place for you. You can get one of those rolling hotdog cookers for your own kitchen, or a popcorn machine, or as Jaye said, your own deep-fat fryer. You can browse an aisle of knives that real chefs use, and a couple of aisles of pots and pans (and a stew pot big enough to cook someone my size if you lean toward cannibalism). There are more aisles of dishes and glasses of all sorts. I could truly spend a fortune here. It's a shame I mostly cook for just myself. read more

Wow. Talk about kitchen heaven! Folks who cook a LOT already know about Ace Mart Restaurant Supply - but I am pretty much a newbie wrt serious cooking. I mustered up the courage to go to Ace Mart for some new non-stick pans after I gathered advice from my fellow Yelpers. I know Tony B. knows his way around a kitchen - and so when he said Ace Mart was the place for value - then I knew this was a solid suggestion. This all began 18 months ago when I took a close look at my cooking pan selection, I noticed that ALL of them were worn. Then it dawned on me - how can I do any serious cooking without the right tools?? BTW, Tony also recommended that I get some REAL pans (without the non-stick coating) for high-heat cooking as well. He also said 'Stay away from 'names' such as Rachel Ray, Guy F, etc.....because that just adds to your sticker price anyway.' Upon entering the store just off Congress Ave., I was promptly greeted and offered help. When I explained my situation, they took me right where I needed to go. I selected the following; one Vollrath 10" CeramiGuard II non-stick fry pan, one 14" Vollrath SteelCoat x3 non-stick fry pan, and one 12" Vollrath Natural Finish Wear-Ever aluminum fry pan (for high-heat cooking that is not advised with non-stick coatings). Vollrath was an easy selection as they offer tremendous quality at a reasonable prices! So as I write this review, these have held up without a mark or scratch and have markedly improved my cooking capabilities. I went in today, and the sale was on 8" and 10" kitchen knives, along with selected cutting boards. They have so many sales, you'll need a flier when you first come in. And when you first enter, everyone perks up, and says "Hi!" Someone will definitely approach you and ask you if you need help. Their service is top-notch! If you're like me, and would really rather just walk the aisles and shop alone, that's an option, too! You just have to tell them. One of my favorite things to get here is their diet Cherry sno-cone syrup. It's great in anything you put it in. Crush some ice, grab your favorite diet pop (Diet Pepsi/Coke, Pepsi/Coke Zero, and my all time favorite, Diet Mt. Dew). Blend it up in your blender, making sure all the ice is crushed, and you have awesomeness in a glass! You get a huge gallon jug for $6.95. You can't go wrong with that! There are other flavors too! In the diet, there are three-- Cherry, Grape, and Raspberry. There are tons of flavors in the regular! You can always check their website for all their products, too. It's such a great resource. I've been visiting ACE for years now and I'm the furthest thing from a restaurant owner. I just prefer the commercial look/feel of my starlight cups, massive cutting boards (important if you BBQ), plain white apron, tortilla cozy/salsa bowl set ('tortilla cozy' has to be a Yelp first), and various tongs, knives, shakers, squirters, and pourers. If you ever cook for more than 2 people, you must visit. Oh, and they have a cotton candy machine - if you get it, please invite me over. read more

Acemart has always been awesome...since I moved to Texas, I wanted to find just some salt and pepper shakers and ended up there. The staff was GREAT, and that place is amazing...my silverware is now from there, plates, cups, and so many other things....the prices are great for what you get. I wish they were open longer on Saturdays but that is just because I like the store so much. Ace Mart has free popcorn and soda when available, and sometimes, reps from the appliance makers will be in store, showing you how to use a panini-maker, for example, and that's fun! I have purchased paper plates and baskets in bulk there, and saved a lot by doing that, I even bought an enormous bottle of grenadine for only five bucks! Their pots and pans are wonderful and I have bought a few baking sheets there, too, that were all of high quality.. I also bought a degreasing cleaning product that was being demonstrated there and it works beautifully! I buy the plastic deli containers here, the kind that you see at like the olive bars and such. I use them for batch cooking because they are small enough to be a meal for 2, and also cost effective enough to be tossed if they need to be. They have a large selection of items, and some things you find yourself staring at thinking "OMG I need this, what is it? why did I never know it existed?!" Don't really understand what happened except maybe the cashier was having a bad day. I'm a culinary student buying molds for a class presentation and when asking for my student discount I was questioned of the intent of my purchase.... when I explained the rubber molds I was purchasing were for a presentation the cashier began to repeat the question as if my reason might change. He then proceeded to bring another associate to explain the rules of my discount as if his original explanation of, my discount only being applied to items used in class, wasn't good enough... when I explained it was not my lack of understanding that had me confused, it was the demeaning berate pertaining to a $2 discount. When I left I left, choosing to take my business elsewhere, the cashier yelled out don't come back... this is a ridiculous... how on earth did it escalate that quickly??? read more

When I really want to feel legit, I stroll the vast aisles of fun culinary tools of the trade at Ace Mart Restaurant Supply. This place has so much stuff. The staff is always plentiful and super friendly, the prices are fair for the quality you receive, and it's right in my neighborhood. There's not usually a lot of people in the store, hopefully they're still doing well enough to stick around for awhile because it's always a fun trip inside. I kinda nerd out here, I love it! I'm also an artist, and sometimes my weird sculpting adventures require I make/find some unconventional solution for mold-making and armature. You can find many better deals online. No attention to detail (or they just don't care?): they don't replace damaged items. The aisles could be cleaner.
