Ace Hardware Hampton is exactly why local hardware stores still matter. The store is clean, well organized, and easy to shop without feeling overwhelmed. If you need help, someone is always nearby and actually knows what they're doing. Big shout out to Michael the cashier... friendly, helpful, funny, and very attentive. His personality alone makes the experience better. Honestly, he has management written all over him and definitely deserves a raise. I recently bought a chainsaw at this hardware store. I went in on one day, did some research to make a decision, and came back the second day to pick out the chainsaw. But on day one, while I was looking over the saws and doing my research in the store, at least half a dozen associates came over to check on me and make sure I was doing OK. I've been in many other larger hardware stores and the staff never approaches you, not even one time. But both days at this hardware store, the staff was incredibly helpful. On the second day, when I made the purchase, the associate named Aaron provided tremendous assistance. He was incredibly knowledgeable and did an amazing job walking me through the product features, registration of the saw, and he gave me so many helpful tips. He informed on the aspects of the operation of chainsaws in general that I wasn't even aware of, after more than a decade of owning and using chainsaws. I couldn't see how a hardware store could possibly have a better qualified staff member. It is truly refreshing to see someone so competent and passionate about their work. You know Ace Hardware is not one of your Mega Hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot, they don't have as big of selection or they may not have the cheapest prices. But one thing I can count on at Ace Hardware is helpful, friendly customer service. Yesterday I was working on my toilet and I needed some parts (screws and bolts). Being a normal customer of Lowes, I was thinking to myself, "Where in the hell in that store can I find them and who is going to help me?" One thing I can't get at these mega-hardware stores is available customer service. Praise be to God I thought of Ace Hardware which is right up the street from my house. I was greeted right away, from the time I walked in till the time I left. I don't know the employees name, but he ask if he could help, went to a screw measuring board, and lead me to the correct screws and bolts I needed. It fit like a charm on my toilet. When I checked out, they were friendly and quick. I really love going to this Ace Hardware. Oh, by the way, this particular location is not in Williamsburg but in Hampton Virginia. Bought a Stihl trimmer and used it twice, noticed erratic high speed operation. unit still had original fuel that unit was purchased with. when I dropped it off the clerk wanted a $35.00 deposit, it was explained that it was how their system worked and that if nothing was found there would be no charge. when I called to confirm it was ready for pick up tech stated that they were keeping my deposit. The unit was under warrant. I have purchased a chain saw and commercial hedge trimmer at this store. Treatment was rude and unprofessional, I was told to "should have read what you signed" I guess it will be Lowes, HomeDepot or even Patrick's from now on. read more

I've had good service here before and that is the only reason for 3 stars and not one. Called and asked if they had a drive belt for my lawn mower and was told that they did and that they would hold it for me. A couple of hours later I go to the store wait at the counter for 10 minutes just to be told they were closed, even though an employee told me someone would be with me shortly. Finally someone found a lawnmower blade with my name on it... I requested a belt. Needless to say I walked out and drove to the Tractor Supply Store, were not only was I greeted, the young man behind the counter took the time to make sure I had the right belt and shook my hand and thanked me for my business. Anyway, to the management at ACE, this is one of those teachable moments for your staff. read more
