I've been going here for a few years. It started off great, but the service and quality has declined. The owner is good at cutting hair but he does not listen to what you request. Time after time I leave with my hair far shorter than what I wanted despite multiple assurances that it would not be cut that short. This is the first bad review that I've ever left on yelp, because I rarely write reviews and I hate to hurt people's business. Maybe my experience was a fluke, or maybe I just have different standards from other reviewers, but I am deeply disappointed by my haircut from this salon. Having just moved to Ithaca, I was recommended this salon by a Chinese friend, and I expected at least a decent experience based on the glowing yelp reviews. Boy was I wrong. I walked 40 minutes and paid 40 dollars for a simple trim and ended up with uneven sides and the most hideous back design for a short bob that I've ever seen. I have kept the same hairstyle for two years now. In the past, I have requested the same cut from at least half a dozen different stylists both in China and in the U.S. This is the first time that I've seen a STRAIGHT LINE back design. On top of that, I had to trim one side of my hair with a pair of stationary scissors after I got home because despite my multiple reminders, the stylist did not believe that one side was longer than the other. If there's anything good to say about the salon, I guess the receptionist was sufficiently nice, and the place looked big and clean. To those who plan to get their haircut here, I suggest that you make your requirements excruciatingly clear, or you may end up with the same level of frustration. Before I go on, I want to comment many hair salon stylists around Ithaca have failed at the basic task of cutting my hair ... I've been to many Ithaca salons over years, always coming out feeling that I had both my time and money. My feeling was so strong that I had altogether stopped going to hair salon for several years, opting to just let my hair grow, occasionally cutting it myself, or asking friends for a trim. I went this time though because it was getting a tad too long and I didn't feel like bothering my neighbor again for a cut. True, the owner-stylist Henry is not exactly the top conversationalist. But try asking him about his 2-year-old daughter and you will see his hard face melt into one of smiles. It is so sweet to have witnessed that very obvious change on his face. You need to make an appointment before going to this place. This place is a two-person operation. The owner Henry is the only person who cuts hair. His wife, if she is around, does admin, washes hair and perm (.. I'm not 100% sure of the wife's works .. correct me if I'm mistaken). So anyway, do you understand now why you need an appointment? Please be respectful and show up on time. Henry and his wife speak Chinese and Korean. So if you speak those languages, you may have even more fun. I paid $32 for a cut, cash. If you pay with a credit card, you will pay more. They also give you a stamping card and if you collect 6 stamps, you get $10 off from cuts next time, or 20% off from perm/curl. Henry "lightened" my hair - no, not in color, but in weight - by a method I had long forgotten that it existed. This is a feat no other hair salon in Ithaca ever offered me, not one. When he did that to my hair, I was like "Ooohhh now I remember! ... that's how they used to do it for me in J-country." Now, my head is light. My hair length is now just right, too. I really don't like giving bad reviews but I had a terrible experience here. I was excited that there was an Asian hair salon in Ithaca so I wouldn't have to go all the way to New York in order to get an haircut. Based on so many good reviews, I decided to give it a try. I've been to a number of Asian hair salons in the US, Japan and China but none of them disappointed me so bad as this one did. All I asked was a basic short bang but it seemed like the stylist wasn't able to accomplish this task. My bang was very uneven, some spots were longer and some were shorter. He had a hard time fixing my hair even though I made my request very clear. The two sides of my hair had different lengths so I had to fix it myself after I got home. But I really appreciate his patience and willingness to try to fix my hair. What made me most uncomfortable was that the woman who washed my hair had an attitude like "I don't give a sh** to my customers." Anyways, I am extremely disappointed. Well if you want to get Asian hair styles, it seems like this is the only choice since it's the only Asian hair salon here. read more

I am super happy with my cut and color from today. I've come here three times, and I never leave disappointed. He always asks me if I'm comfortable with the length he's cutting before he does it, and he verified the color schemes with me on a board before he colored my hair. I wanted to dye my hair blonde, and was pretty nervous- I have very dark brown/black hair and the one time I tried to do it myself it turned out like 5 shades of orange. Henry nailed it!
