I'm very disappointed that a place of business would treat customers so rudely. Yes, I was late to my appointment, but I thought it was on the half hour. (Who schedules on the quarter hour?) Anyhow, if you don't want to cut my hair because it is difficult to cut, why didn't you just say so? And forty minutes isn't long enough for a haircut? I've been greatly disappointed with the availability, suggestion, several cuts, and personal treatment I have received, so sorry--I'm taking my business elsewhere. I have never written a public review before like this, but I am so shocked by my experience that I felt compelled to. I know the owner will likely see this & I hope that there can be some understanding rather than defensiveness. I went for a consultation first with photos showing that I wanted to be a golden blonde. I was told that I would get highlights and a toner. I will attach photos of my reference. Fast forward to my appointment. Instead of a warm, golden blonde, my hair turned ashy grey. Underneath, towards the base of my head, my hair looked streaky and grey. Anyone reading this can empathize with the notion that any change to your hair can be emotional. Imagine wanting to be a blonde and instead you turn grey. I was crying. I called 3 days later to come in & get my hair fixed. I was told that they were very busy and that the soonest they could get me in would be two days later at 8:45AM. I would have had the client in immediately to remedy, but I was understanding. I was slightly late to my appointment and did make sure to apologize for it. When I arrived, I was told that they would have loved to start earlier and that they were very busy. There's no excuse for being a little late, but guess what? I'm really busy too and if my hair was done correctly the first time, I wouldn't even have to be there. Shortly after I sat down, looking at my husband's car in the nearly empty parking lot, they said... we have clients coming that need those spots. Is he going to be sitting there? It was incredibly rude. He was just dropping me off quickly in a nearly empty parking lot. They took most of the ashy color away and I went home still not a blonde. I was told that my hair wouldn't look as natural if they had gone blonder/my roots would be showing more and that it would have been "way more expensive." What more can I do then go to a consultation and show photo references multiple times? I also never made a comment about staying within a certain budget so I'm not sure where that comment came from. I honestly feel slightly traumatized. On top of making my hair look dull & grey and not delivering what I asked for in the slightest, they made me feel like a nuisance when I came back with such passively rude comments. Will sadly never go back here. Will be going elsewhere to fix my hair. Feeling so shocked at my experience. read more

I love Satori. The place has a very warm and comfortable feel, the staff is excellent and they are always so friendly and fun to see. I especially enjoy going with my daughter for pedicures. It is so nice not to feel like the staff is hurting themselves (since the setup allows them to sit upright) and I really appreciate that they are well taken care of by the ownership. I never write reviews, but I thought that this experience deserves a review. I have been going to Satori for several years now, and up until the last couple haircuts, it has been really great. But, recently several staff members have been leaving, so the owner was the only one available to cut my hair the past couple times. The first haircut with her was okay, but not amazing. But at least it was kind of what I asked for. This most recent time, I got a completely different haircut than I asked for. I clearly described and showed pictures of a shoulder-length shaggy layered cut with some fringe (I have curly hair), which was pretty much what I already had but shorter. This is my usual haircut, and what I had asked for the appointment prior. Nothing too complicated, and I was clear with what I wanted, and she seemed on board. I ended up walking out of there with a very short pixie cut. I am not exaggerating-- it's not even like a short bob, the back of my head is like a short man's haircut. The longest bits of my hair are 2-3 inches at most, and I have curly hair so it looks much shorter. I walked in with long, beautiful curls I have been growing out for a couple years, and left with basically no hair (and paid ~$50 for the experience). I'm not one to place a lot of weight on hair, but this haircut was kind of devastating for the first couple days afterward. I will add that my dad has also gotten haircuts from the owner and he has been also very displeased with the results. Because of this, my family will stop going to Satori and find a different place. I want to support the business after years of great haircuts (mostly from Kailey and Athena), but these recent haircuts have been extremely disappointing. I have been a very loyal customer here fir years, primarily because of the proximity to my house. The services are ok, mostly overpriced, quite a few mistakes, but also some good appointments over the years. I'm taking the time to write a yelp review because I am pretty offended at my last encounter. I called to schedule an appointment and was very rudely informed that I have a note in my file that I need to prepay from now on. This came as a shock- no one has ever had the courtesy to tell me and I have been a great client all these years. The receptionist started listing about four supposed last minute cancellations from last winter. I explained that only one was a real last minute (within 24 hours) cancellation. The rest were cancelled right after booking for the most part. I had a baby last fall so would call for same day appointments in the beginning, and a few times had to call back within half hour of booking and change to another time. No one ever expressed that that was a problem. In any event, I also have had several appointments since my last alleged last minute cancellation, and none of these required a prepayment. Why they suddenly put me on some list now is beyond me. I felt the receptionist was very rude about it, and really it just made me feel like my loyal business with them is not appreciated. I have been understanding when half an eyebrow was ripped off, or I got a burn from waxing, or they screwed up the schedule and I arranged childcare for nothing because they couldn't fit in my scheduled appointment, or had a bad dye job that ended up staining my cheeks and coming off on the pillow for weeks. I would have hoped that they could have a little more class themselves and pay a little more attention to the fact that they are in the customer service business. read more

I had the best experience getting my hair done for my wedding. Lynette did my hair and she was amazing, I loved the style. She even did my toenails for free! The salon is so accommodating, having a table of coffee, tea and water. They let us bring food in which was great. They were all so nice and lovely. I came here once for a hair cut and the service was quick but poorly done. My haircut was with a "level 1" hairstylist, so it was about $33. I'm from NYC, so $33 for a haircut is shockingly inexpensive. I wanted a trim with layers; she cut about 1/2 inch (I think she was scared to cut more?) and no layers. I didn't realize she was finished until she started blow drying my hair. At this point I just figured the service was crappy and, even if I asked her to keep cutting, she wouldn't have done a good job. So she blow dryed my hair. I like my hair voluminous (I HATE straightening) and she started straightening my hair to get out any waves...but I like how the ends of my hair curl inwards after a nice blowdry. I left the salon w/ straight hair - pretty much the same as when I came in. The customer service: I thought the receptionist was nice. I was offered coffee (by the hair stylist) and my BF had a place to sit/read while I was getting my hair cut. Overall people seemed friendly. read more

I am a bit disappointed with this salon. I called and scheduled hair and makeup for my wedding. Then, one month before the wedding, I get a call that because of a stylist leaving, I am REQUIRED to have a trial run for my hair and makeup-both at FULL PRICE. I don't know about anyone else, but I only need $100 hair for the one day. I was prepared to make a pampered day for myself for my wedding day, but I cannot fathom spending $140 for hair and makeup TWICE when it is needed once. I wouldn't recommend this for your wedding. I've been 3 times now, and I don't think I'll go back. I wanted to like this salon, but 2 of the times I had my haircut here I had to go back in after getting home and straightening my hair to find out the ends were completely uneven. The second time the stylist even mentioned the previous uneven haircut but still round brushed it so I couldn't tell anything until I got home. I was also pretty clear that I wear my hair straight every day. The color appointment for lowlights went well. They have complementary beverages, and the receptionists are absolutely great! The positive: the decor is really nice and it is very comfortable inside. They take you to a private room if you are getting your eyebrows done. The negative: I was either burned or scratched when I had my eyebrows waxed. I didn't notice it till the next day when a two linear scabs started to form on my upper lid. Just moved to the area & Satori came recommended by a couple moms at my children's school. I decided that I would take my sons first & try my husband & I next if all went well. When I booked I told them I had a 2 & 3 year old that didn't love hair cuts. They said they could take them @ 345 on a Saturday. When we arrived everyone was very friendly. My kids haircuts started & my younger son cried from the start. I sang him songs & did my best to try to ease his anxiety. The stylist was great the entire time. Trying to help & worked quickly. Just as we were about finished another stylist came over and told our stylist "you know at a certain point you just have to stop. You know Christi doesn't like kids crying. We have massages going on." I told her not to worry- we were done. I knew at that point we were never coming back. My husband was with my older son while this happened and asked me while we were still there what happened. I told him & the stylist that told us to cut it short, overheard me telling him what happened & said I wasn't trying to be rude. Unfortunately, she was rude & if that is how the owners/management feel than they shouldn't take children. I loved the idea of extensive services they provide & that it was right in cayuga heights. Unfortunately, I will have to find another salon. Even if it means driving back to the city. I hadn't been in for a few years, but scheduled a massage fairly recently. They've revamped the reception area and the current receptionist is very nice and warm. It's much more professional now. The massage therapist was also very good. The massage was very relaxing and definitely helped with my back pain. Satori has a more professional vibe now and better customer service. read more

Wow, I was blown away by everyone here. I screwed my hair up and it was green a day before I was about to leave on vacation. My awesome boyfriend called and made me an apt here right before we left as a surprise. Instead of calling me a "corrective color" and slapping me with an insane price tag, the lady talked me through everything I did to get my gross green locks and then came up with a different solution that not only saved my hair from being bleached again, but made my hair absolutely perfect for a whopping $25. I was so happy with the service and knowledge of the staff, I am so sorry I didn't bring my business here sooner! This is my new hair place I can't wait to go back! read more

I have been to this salon several times for haircuts and hair colorings and a manicure. I don't know why I go back because I have never felt the hairdresser listened to me or tried to do what I wanted. The result was always very different from what I wanted and not satisfactory at all. I have had 4 different haircutters, so this is not just one person. Also, for Ithaca, the services are pricey (haircut $40, all waxing $5 over standard prices in Ithaca), which might be ok if they were superior to others, but my experience is that they are inferior. I also had my hair highlighted and it looked terrible-- much too contrasting highlights-- more like stripes. I also had my nails done, and I can't call what I got a manicure, the nails were only perfunctorily shaped and and then polish applied. You may wonder why I went back so many times-- well, it is very convenient and it looks so nice. I guess I kept hoping I would get a keeper. For now, it's a loser. read more

I went to book an appointment with my stylist and I am told she's no longer there anymore. I asked what happen and the lady on the phone told me that's my stylist had walked in and just packed up her stuff and left. Interesting, when I find my stylist I also find out the truth. After 11 years of this young women's hard work and dedication, the owners threw all her things in a box and told her to get out. Leaving two children at home everyday to work hard for this establishment and this is what they do. I will never step foot in this place again. They have lost 5 employees in the last 3 months and it's unheard of. I am all about supporting small businesses, but I will never support a place that can treat someone as sweet and talented as they did my stylist. I will continue to Follow her on her new journey! My wedding party had a mani/pedi and hair session here recently, and my guests and I were well taken care of from beginning to end. Upon checking in, we were offered tea or coffee, and taken to a private area in the back, where we had our nails done. Casey, my manicurist, helped my choose a nail polish color that would be subtle, yet polished and professional. So disappointed in my cut! It felt completely rushed (especially for the price!) and the final quality is horrifying. I asked for a trim with layers and some face framing. In the end I had to suggest corrections, and they were rushed on dry hair and not integrated into the rest of the cut. Now I have a huge drop from the face framing/long bangs to the rest of my hair that looks like a mullet, and the layers I asked for are non-existent with some places having the longest strands on top. I absolutely love Satori! Everyone who works there is super nice, I love the laid back yet classy atmosphere, the selection of products (especially Bumble & bumble) and the variety of great services that they offer! I started going to Casey for my haircuts about two years ago and she does a great job. I'm quite picky when it comes to my hair and I trust Casey with it 100%. Also, Satori offers complimentary bang trims which is awesome! I've gone to several people for brow waxes at Satori, but Juju had been the only one who is able to satisfy me time after time! (my natural brows are quite weird). Also the brow waxes are very reasonable ($18) and take place in a private room lying down which is makes for a much more comfortable environment. I used to go to Sierra for gel manicures before I started doing them at home and she does an amazing job! She also did my hair for my senior prom and did an amazing job. Overall I would totally recomend Satori to anyone. Especailly the three ladies I just mentioned! read more

I just moved away so I'm feeling nostalgic for my old salon! Kailey was my stylist for 2 years and she was great. I loved my color everytime (highlights/balayage). She was quick so I didn't feel like I was spending hours just getting my hair done and the price was great. Great quality services but receptionists can have quite the attitude. Management does not seem too concerned about the customer's overall satisfaction in this regard either. I had such a disappointing experience here today. I called three weeks ago to book a haircut appointment with one of the most popular stylists here - it was to be my first cut since having a baby, and today is my wedding anniversary (first evening out with my husband after becoming a mom)! I should have know something was off when I didn't get a call confirming my appointment. I walked in today and there is no record of my appointment. Of course, they couldn't fit me in with the stylist I wanted to see. They offered to book me a new appointment with her for next week, or to get a cut today with someone else (with a discount). I downloaded the Yelp app after my visit to Satori yesterday. I checked in for my appointment and proceeded to browse the products while I waited for my stylist. One of the owners (the large red head) came over & asked if I needed help. When I pleasantly said, no thanks I'm waiting for "X", she said, "Oh, well, I've never seen you here before." UNPROFESSIONAL! I was floored. I've been a client of that salon for 5 YEARS!! If my stylist wasn't as amazing as she is, I would take my money ($45 for a haircut & $20 cash tip) & never go back. My hair came out beautifully - as always. This is the only reason I even consider continuing on @ this salon. I bring my children there for their haircuts and have had 1 bad haircut (done by the other owner - the large dark haired woman) and a so-so pedicure. Upon checkout the girls @ the desk were somewhat snotty & inquired if I was leaving a tip (which had already been given). It's a shame that such amazing hair stylists work under such classless management. You can dress it up & make it pretty but a pig in makeup is still a pig. read more

Demitra is more than just a great hairstylist, she is an artist. I wanted to do a short, funky, kind of punk hairstyle and she was immediately excited about it. I found her because I saw this girl with an amazing haircut in town, and she referred me to Demitra. Now that I've moved back home to CT from school, I miss her dearly and she is impossible to replace! I felt so comfortable that no matter how funky or short I wanted it, that she would do an excellent job. And she always did! She was able to give me a short hairstyle that kept my femininity in it. And the designs she did on the buzzed half of my head were amazing. The place is no more pricey than what I would expect of a great salon and they don't pressure you to purchase any products. Lisa Knight did my hair for my wedding. I was incredibly happy with how it turned out. We did a trial a few weeks before hand, which allowed me to tweak a couple things on the day out. The trial really helped, as I had opted for an updo, but originally asked for it too low on the back of my neck to be comfortable.
