Ohio Savings Bank

Ohio Savings Bank

This bank may not be the worst of the worst but it is certainly approaching it…read more I used this bank for about a year, when I lived nearby in Cleveland Heights, but I switched to the nearby US Bank for a number of reasons. It should have sent up a red-flag when I opened my account here that the bank officer was pressuring me to fill out a credit card application. The officer was manipulative and tried to establish a position of power by first claiming that they did not usually open accounts for people without proof of residency, since I had an out-of-state driver's license (I have never before or after had this problem from a bank). She then said that under these circumstances I would have to fill out a credit card application for a card offered by MBNA. It was clear that she was receiving a commission on such applications. I steadfastly refused; MBNA (since bought by Bank of America) is a very creepy company that a number of my close friends have had very bad experiences with. Eventually I was able to open an account here. I had both a checking and savings account. After several months, there was a small error ($60 or so) on my account, which I called up and had corrected. This was the only time I have ever had any bank list an error on my account. Later, I had a second problem in which the utility company I was using pulled too large an amount from my account using their online bill-payment feature (this was back in the days when such systems were young and less reliable). Ohio Savings Bank was extremely unhelpful when this happened--I was forced to work the problem out exclusively with the utility company and I am lucky I was able to get the funds back from dealing with the company, because I have a feeling that the bank would not have ever helped me do so. If it tells you anything, Ohio Savings has since changed its name to AmTrust bank. This sends up more red flags, in my opinion--they realize that they have a tarnished name in the Cleveland area and they are working hard to distance themselves from it. While there are a few banks (such as CharterOne) that I think are even sleazier than this one, I would never recommend anyone to open up an account here when there are so many better options available.

While Amtrust (Ohio Savings) certainly TRIES they are nowhere near capable of handling their own…read morebusiness. Their website is poorly supported and buggy. Do yourself a favor and go to a larger bank with a better service record.

I lost over 75$ on overseas phone calls because of staff ineptitude and bad attitude. The staff 2x refused to request a refund. I have contacted my lawyers for legal action. The bank also doesnt post an email and didnt allow me to reactivate my online account. After 35 years as a valuable client I dont need such abuse!

I was a HELOC customer and they charge an annual fee. Well looking at the statement it appears the annual fee is charged to the line of credit. Nope, they bill it individually but they include it as a line item on your statement. So when I paid $40 over my minimum it didn't cover the $65 fee. The following month exactly 30 days later my auto payment hit again and paid the remaining $20. This scumbag company reported me 30+days late to the credit bureau and collections for essentially money that was paid to them that day. I never got a call, a letter, or an email saying I was late. There was no notification on my dashboard when I signed in every month. But the made sure to smear me on the exact 30th day late on $20 despite being paid that day. It took days to get an answer and I had to spend a few hours sorting through statements piecing it together myself because nobody could tell me why and no management would return my call. Despite no late payments in 3+ years with them they couldn't remove the late mark as a courtesy. The basically said it was my fault and they don't owe any phone calls, or email, or notifications you are late. I got one call it was from the collections dept 1 month later. I returned the call immediately and he said he had no idea why he was contacting me and to disregard. That's the only call I ever got. Now I'm preparing to get a loan to start a business and I run a credit checo and find I was reported 60 day late to TransUnion. So now I'm disputing it. This company ruined my 10yr record of over 1k payments on time. Perfect credit screwed by this circus of a bank. I paid 2k extra the month before and an extra regular payment but it ment nothing. All I needed was to know I was past due and I would of paid them no problem. I'm now trying to figure out how to take them to small claims or anything to return the favor. I have an appointment with a consumer rights attorney next week. Save yourself the heartache and stress and avoid this place all together.

I have been banking with PNC since I was a pre-teen when my parents helped me open my first bank…read moreaccount about 35+ years ago at the former National City Bank branch (now PNC) in University Heights. Fast-forward to 2008, I even worked for NCB as a Licensed Investment Banker for a short time right before they changed their name to PNC. Going to the bank for the routine transactions is usually a pretty mundane task for anyone, but I want to give a shoutout to 2 special people at the University Heights branch. In mid-December 2024, I came in to obtain a cashier's check as payment for a vehicle that I was purchasing from a dealership out of state. Donna helped me with this transaction and even kindly suggested to upgrade my account so that I could avoid having to pay a fee for the cashier's check (it's complimentary for certain account types). I was very grateful for this. I obtained the check and headed right to the post office to mail it priority. It was supposed to take 3 days. But 2 weeks later, the dealership still has not received the check and the tracking number doesn't show any movement. This was causing me a good deal of stress as I was worried that the dealership would release my vehicle to another buyer since they haven't received my payment in a timely manner. So... I called the bank almost in a panic, but Donna was off that day. I spoke with Jason and I explained my predicament to him - that I needed to cancel the check and have it reissued immediately. Even though Jason was unfamiliar with canceling a cashier's check as he hadn't done it before, he invited me to come in and pledged to figure it out and get it done. While I was there, he figured out who to call and talked to whoever he needed to in order to get the process started. We figured out that it will take one business day for the cancellation to become official. He got it done! He had me sign an affidavit and asked me to return after one business day to request a reissue. Jason also advised me that he would be off when I returned, but that Donna would be back in. He notified Donna of everything that he did and what else we needed to do so that the transition would be seamless when I came back in for the reissue. On the next business day, Donna asked me to come in at noon. She was able to confirm that the prior check had been cancelled and proceeded to redeposit the funds back into my account. Instead of reissuing a new check, we ended up transferring the funds by wire directly to the dealership's bank. This alleviated the necessity of mailing another check and the possibility of additional delays by the unreliable USPS. Donna was very instrumental in getting this transaction done quickly and the dealership confirmed their receipt of the funds within a couple of hours. Hallelujah!!! The care and detailed attention that both Donna and Jason demonstrated during this entire process for me is truly exceptional! They helped to relieve a lot of anxiety for me and I truly appreciate their professionalism and customer focus!! I wish that all people in service-oriented roles are as caring. Thank you, Donna and Jason!
