They kept my paperwork and referred me to their attorney over the small sum of 500.00. I am shocked I am so glad I didnt leave a larger retainer

He didn't get our tax return done when he said he would. Said he had a death in the family. Ok, I'm sympathetic to that. But when he finally got our return done weeks later, he made a big mistake that could've easily been avoided, which resulted in us owing $4k more in taxes, and then he had the gall to blame it on me. Considering the amount of time I spent making sure that he was working on our return and having to review it, I might as well have done it myself. The only silver lining was that his rate was low, but I also got what I paid for. (I did not provide you with two documents with conflicting info. One was a spreadsheet that I prepared that had my mortgage payments as part of my expenses. The other was the actual tax form from my lender with the mortgage interest amount which was the number that was supposed to be inputted. It was an oversight on your part. I don't take issue with how much we ended up owing in taxes. But if I hadn't caught the mistake, we would've underpaid.)

This is my first time filing tax return with Mr. Li at HJ Tax & Accounting and I really want to…read moretell my story of what a GREAT experience I have had with him. His professional excellence and patience helped me save thousands of dollars from mistakes in my past filings that should have been returned to me. If you are looking for a trustworthy and experienced accountant at a reasonable price to save you money, you do not have to look further! I sold my house in Arizona for a big loss back in 2014, and my former accountant made a mistake and did not get me a large sum of money that I'm entitled to, over $18,000 to be exact. During my filing for 2017 return with Mr. Li, he spotted the error and worked with me for long hours to sort out a pile of years of my past tax returns. To be honest it was a mess, but throughout the whole thing Mr. Li did not lose his patience one bit and really spent the time to analyze my situation and worked on how to amend the mistakes. Only with his detailed explanation during this tedious process did I start to see the complexity of the NOL (Net Operating Loss) that carries across multiple years and how the mistakes were made and affected me. Eventually he helped me file two amendments, one to the State of CA requesting a return of over $5,000 and another to Federal for over $13,000. So far, I have received the state return and am still waiting for the federal return. Overall, I just feel that a great accountant is not one who just has years of experience and expertise, apparently Mr. Li has all that, but more importantly a great accountant is someone who cares about your finances like his own! Mr. Li's work ethics have really impressed me. I highly recommend HJ Tax & Accounting to anyone who has any type of accounting needs!

I have been filing my taxes with this company for 3 years. The first couple of years were fine, but…read morelater they suddenly added a significant extra charge without any clear explanation. When I questioned why the fee had increased so much, the response felt very uncomfortable and unconvincing. Since my friend and I had similar tax situations and were charged the same amount previously, I checked with other friends who also use this service. None of them were charged these extra fees. I called back again to ask for clarification, and they eventually admitted that I had been overcharged. What is most unacceptable is the lack of transparency and consistency in pricing. It feels like they charge different customers differently unless you question them directly. If I had not compared and followed up, the overcharge would likely have gone unnoticed. After supporting this business for 3 years, this experience was extremely disappointing. I would strongly recommend others to confirm all fees clearly before filing taxes here.
