It wasn't until after I raised my concerns that I was told I had submitted my documents too late to receive the expected turnaround and they had done me a favor by taking on my tax return. Had that been disclosed during my initial consultation, I would have hired another CPA. After I later received an IRS notice regarding my tax payment, I reached out for assistance and received no response, leaving me to resolve the issue on my own. While the firm ultimately reimbursed the penalties and interest, they refused to acknowledge the broader service issues or take responsibility for the overall client experience. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this firm.

If, like me, you find taxes overwhelming and want someone to walk you through every step, JL Wennes may not be the perfect fit. However, they are highly competent, and once you get up to speed with their process, the value is absolutely worthwhile. I now plan to remain with JL Wennes for many years to come. Not because they apologized or begged me to, they did not, but because they are highly competent and I want to save money on my taxes. I believe at the end of the day this is the single metric people use to measure the performance of their CPA and thus my prior review would be misleading.
