We called Brett McMillan CPA in early April since we had seen that they offered a first responders discount , OT on W-2 was incorrect that we needed help with and they had overall good reviews. The lady who helped up on the phone was very kind and quick. We were given a quote of around $280 with first responders discount. After telling them all of our information like dependents, OT issues etc we were given a return that had none of that listed and was asked to pay $350. It took lots of back and forth. I will admit my partner was slow to responding back at times but he's in the fire service and is not available most days. We had asked them to call us for any questions and they failed to do so which resulted in us not getting back in touch for long periods of time. Fast forward to now, we finally got everything situated. We got the bill and it was requesting $350 again. We paid it since we just wanted to get it over with but it's just a bummer to be quoted a number and having to pay more than we expected. I'm not going to say I don't recommend. I'm sure we played our part in the quality we received by slow communication. Nonetheless we are thankful for the service , just bummed. read more

AAA experience!! Where do I begin? I reached out to Bret for three needs: 1) I needed help with filing a trust return and personal return, 2) I started my own LLC and needed guidance to ensure I was in compliance and 3) I have a family member who hadn't filed State or Federal returns in more than a decade! This office will not be looking out for Your best interest. They will do the bare minimum to get a pay that could potentially screw your over and end up owing money to the IRS. They filed my taxes including a child tax credit that I had already received. They said that I am entitled to a tax child tax credit and so they filed my taxes claiming a tax credit that I had already gotten. They should know about these advance payments from the IRS & ask me their clients about it. I ended up receiving a bill from the irs to the tune of $3,347!! Needed a new tax man, so I was in the hunt. I was googled/yelped about 20 different tax people. The most important thing I was looking for in a tax guy was for them to be Organized, be a official CPA not someone with their tax license, easy to submit my paperwork, and have a clear line of communication incase I have questions, and someone that knows tax laws so I don't get audited . Also to have tips on what can I do to save more money on taxes . Which I did ask and I did get tips from Mr. McMillan. I live about an hour and a half away from Mr. McMillan so I asked if I can submit everything to him by mail. I found out he actually uses a secure app called Liscio that I can scan all my documents to him through the app and I can message Mr. McMillan as well with questions. This saves me money on postage at the post office . I literally called Mr. McMillan as a new client 3 weeks before the tax deadline, which he filed a extension within the hour of talking to him so I have a buffer on getting my taxes done. I submitted all my documents 2 weeks before tax day and he actually finished my taxes before the deadline, even though I had an extension. Doing taxes is always stressful. But through Mr. McMillan's tax services I was really happy, and it was a painless process. Even with me being long distance as well all I need to do is scan my docs and tell him to work his magic. I would strongly encourage anyone to avoid this place at all costs. Bret made so many errors during this tax preparation that we ended up going somewhere else even after having to pay Bret. I won't list everything that went wrong, but the top three are as follows: 1) Made errors in my tax preparation and reported to me that I owed $5K more than I actually owed. 2) Sent my Docusign to the wrong person. 3) After telling Bret we no longer felt comfortable having him prepare and file our taxes, he said that he would still bill us either way and sent us an invoice for $625. I understand that he needs to be paid for work done, even if it was done incorrectly. HOWEVER, we had already paid him the full amount several weeks before and this was an attempt at billing us twice. Unfortunately, this was not what my wife and I had hoped for going into this tax season and it caused us a substantial amount of unnecessary stress due to what we perceive to be simple inattention to detail. I have never written a YELP Review before, when we interviewed for a new CPA, convinced us that we would be in good hands.....our experience we processed our own returns...it is a 'puppy" mill...no personal attention at all...has a large staff, probably interns...every time completed returns were sent to us there were errors....we are over 65, did not file that way.
