The office is an easy location to get to, has ample parking, and I don't have any issues with the receptionists. They take VSP and are in-network for my plan, so it's a win-win. I don't buy my glasses here personally as they don't have a good variety for wider set glasses, but I come back for Dr. Sarver. Definitely worth trying!

I was previously a patient of this optometrist in 2017. My first visit with them was uneventful and…read morewent ok, aside from the old lady receptionist who had an attitude. It was easy enough to ignore her the first time. My second experience with them is a completely different story. I was treated like garbage and I was hung up on twice. I returned in 2018 to renew my prescription and glasses. Upon making an appointment, this optometrist claimed authorization over my insurance before I even had a visit with them. They are not allowed to claim authorization over your insurance until you actually visit them, have an eye exam, and place an order for glasses. Do you see where this is going? Here's what happened... Work obligations forced me to reschedule my appointment. I told them I'd have to call back to reschedule a new appointment when I get my upcoming work schedule. The receptionist (same lady as last year with an attitude) dropped the ball and never canceled the appointment. ....In the meantime I found a different optometrist whose hours and location were better able to accommodate me. As a consumer I have a right to choose whichever business is better able to accommodate me. So while I was visiting the new optometrist is when I learned the hard way that Opti-Rx took a short cut and claimed authorization over my insurance without ever rendering me any services or even seeing me. How embarrassing it was to have my new optometrist tell me they couldn't move forward with my exam and my glasses because the previous optometrist I visited had my insurance on hold even though I hadn't even seen them. So I call Opti-Rx to have them release my insurance. These jackwipes actually gave me an attitude because I chose a different optometrist. When I asked them to release authorization over my insurance the receptionist said, "I'll see what I can do" I said, "Excuse me? You WILL release my authorization, right? I'm standing here at the new optometrist waiting for it to be released." She said, "Whenever I can get into the system." and she hung up on me. I called back and spoke with Dr. Berger himself. He proceeded to argue with me that because I made an appointment with them so they were justified in holding authorization over my insurance. I said, "We never settled on an appointment. Your receptionist dropped the ball and failed to update the computer when I called to reschedule. You shouldn't be meddling with my insurance." He washed his hands and said, "I'm gonna hand you back to the receptionist to deal with this." He hands me back to the receptionist and she says, "I already dealt with the authorization. It's done." I was in the middle of saying "Alright, thank you" and she hung up on me again. Moral of the story: This company uses shady practices. They have a tendency for taking shortcuts, and their customer interaction with me was incredibly rude. I can not, and will not recommend this optometrist to others.

I have also been pleased with the customer service as it relates to scheduling appointments, making payments, using insurance. There are a variety of frames to choose from, some I don't like and others have been perfect. I learned that when choosing frames consider your activity level, so you don't get glasses that are too fragile. Some parts are easily replaced, more fragile frames may require purchasing a whole frame. I have tried contacts, but they are not for me. The process was fairly easy at the time. If you choose contacts, consider your home or work environment. If you are exposed to lots of dust, pollen or smoke - forget about getting contacts. Every time I have been to Eye Openers, I have had a pleasant, professional experience.

The correction to my prior prescription will surely be helpful. That gives him two stars in the positive. The reason he is receiving less than 5 stars is 3-fold: 1) He examined my eyes with his fingers without using gloves, and 2) He put drops in both eyes twice (a total of 4 drops) - each time he touched my eyeball with the tip of a used dropper and returned the dropper to the bottle to be used on the next patient, and 3) He casually cursed and even dropped an f-bomb, which was completely uncalled for, not to mention highly unprofessional, especially for a brand-new patient with whom he had zero rapport. His bedside manner was also a bit odd. I could have overlooked the cursing and the odd bedside manner, but the unsanitary practices of not using gloves and allowing used droppers to touch patients eyes, potentially spreading all sorts of infections and viruses, including the FLU, was a deal-breaker for me. I was anxious for days following my exam worrying about developing pink eye, the flu or some other contagious illness. No, thank you. Never again.
