The highlight of our week in Rangeley and worth every penny. A unique opportunity to see the lakes and woods from the sky and go to a very remote pristine lake for dinner. We went to Bosebuck Mtn Camps. The meal was outstanding. Beer and wine only and selection not great. Keith is a great communicator, competent pilot and very kind. He hustled for us and rearranged our entire trip after the original plan was stymied by a thunderstorm. Highly recommend.

If you're anywhere near Rangeley, this is an absolute must. Keith was the perfect guide, a great pilot, and incredibly knowledgable about the area. An hour of zipping around above the mountains, lakes, and forests. 1/2 way through the flight we landed on some lake in the middle of nowhere, taxied up to an island, and did a little exploring. Having been in the area for four days and not having seen any moose, I joked that it must be a merchandising gimmick for the region. Within minutes, he proved me wrong, as we spotted two moose, a deer, and two bald eagles. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, although next time I'm trying out the helicopter tour. Thanks Keith! Say hello to Hunter for me.

I will remember this seaplane ride for the rest of my life. Keith was a pleasure to fly with- fun and absolutely professional. My husband and I had a 90 minute flight to find moose- a dream of mine. Keith, who owns his own seaplane, took us about 40 miles northeast in search of the best moose-spots. We saw a grand total of eight! Keith explained what we should be looking for and was very patient as he circled a spot in a lake or a clearing until we spotted it, too. My favorite part of the experience was when we landed in a completely secluded lake and he turned off the engine and we were able to get out of the plane and stand on the pontoons to take in the peaceful surroundings. We even saw a bald eagle fly by! It was a magical experience that was the highlight of our trip. I highly recommend a trip with Keith at Acadian Seaplane.

I am doing an update to my review because most recently we were able to go on the all-day Head of…read morethe Lake cruise rather than one of the shorter ones. Many similarities to the shorter cruises exist: the ticket buying an departure process, the available seating and the narration provided by history teacher Ben. Due to the constraints of needing a larger crew and the logistics of the meals offered, slightly fewer tickets are sold and it only took place once this year. The cruise sells out, so reserve early if you can. This year the cost was $90 per person, which may have been the senior price. As you are boarding at 10:00, they are serving coffee and hot water for tea or cocoa, and three kinds of juices. There is also a continental breakfast assortment: pastries, blueberry cake, yogurt and granola and fruit. After everyone including the crew have been served, they allow people to get seconds. Sometime after 1:00 they served a turkey dinner. The turkey itself seemed dry and slightly overdone to me, but turkey is not my thing. The mashed potatoes, stuffing, squash and canned veggies were fine. A roll and gravy tops the meal off, and dessert was pie and vanilla ice cream or canned whipped topping. I had the blueberry pie and it was fine. Water or soda comes with the meal, but they also sell wine and beer in the galley. The rest is the scenery up to the head of the lake and back again, the stories behind older businesses and legends that have been passed around about people in the region. And of course the history of the Katahdin boat itself,

As another Yelper mentioned, the ship is boarded by calling out names (I do believe in order of purchase,) so no need to get there early to grab a good seat (not a bad seat in the house), but parking is limited so you may want to arrive earlier to secure a spot in the lot. Tickets can be purchased right there at the museum/gift shop ahead of time or online. They have a really good food and beverage selection ( a menu is provided when boarding) , or you can bring your own food (but not your own alcohol-that is for sale onboard). We brought our lunch but did purchase some sodas (long slow moving line). We sat on the bow for most of the journey there and back, but also walked around to check out the views from different vantage points. There are lots of photos and historical items scattered throughout. The way out is narrated with historical and other facts and landmarks. The way back is not narrated as they are doing tours of the engine room and the bridge. The captain and crew were friendly, jovial and knowledgeable. We loved the opportunity to steer the ship! Awesome experience. I would highly recommend this trip to not only get a different perspective of Maine's largest lake and it's surroundings, but to fully appreciate its enormity and beauty. Breathtaking. The ticket also includes a visit to the Maritime museum right at the dock. Fantastic all around!

We got there 10minutes early and were informed some guidelines to follow. Got myself a hat since I forgot to bring one was pretty cold. Since it was during offseason we were only ones there. We were escorted to the gear house and equipped with helmet, safety harness and a latch. The staff gave us a ride to the zip line course and took a truck up the hill. They did tell us to make sure to keep helmet on and seatbelt because it was going to be rough ride up due to it being mud season. It sure was a rough ride up and probably was in the air quite a few times during the ride. I looked at one of the staff and used my foot to secure myself like he was doing to keep myself stable which helped. It was definitely the toughest part of the experience. Once we got to the zip line area we were given a brief instructions for safety and we buckled up and started our zip line session. In the beginning it was a bit intimidating but the staffs were all very nice and made us feel safe during the experience. Once we got going it was very enjoyable and thrilling. It was cold but we were mostly prepared and dressed warm and the hat I purchased helped. The views were also beautiful. At the end we got to go in a treehouse and take some picture at the end. After we finished we were escorted back to the truck and took the van to the main facility which was a mild ride compared to on the way. We dropped off our equipments and left the facility. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and had a great time. Everyone was nice and accommodating made us feel safe. It was also nice that we were only ones there because we got a private session and full attention during the experience. Definitely would recommend for those that enjoy or beginner who would like to try zip lining. My partner who can be la little anxious about these experience enjoyed it and was perfectly fine throughout the experience. The experience was a bit on pricier side but I think it was worth it.

The car ride is very bumpy, and it for the faint of heart. If you have back problems, this is not the car ride for you~ apparently during the summer, guests have to hike up rather than use the trucks which seems like a moderate level walk in my opinion. We were the only guest since it was spring off season~ plenty of mud but it was great! We prepped with our hiking boots, layers, and hats are a must. Gloves helped our hands stay warm. The staff seem close and look like they enjoy what they do~ really great experience filled with views and good happy adrenaline screams!

I picked an afternoon with an expected 14mph wind, so I knew we would sail smartly. I was surprised that Taylor was captaining the boat this trip instead of Twig, but his boat handling was conservative and flawless. Of coarse Bonnie was aboard to do her excellent narration regarding the history of Rockland's lime, timber, ice, shipbuilding and lobster industries and also tell us all about the lighthouse, islands, and seals we saw. Twig and Bonnie's personable adult daughter Rachel was also on board as crew. Bonnie and Rachel handled hoisting, trimming, reefing and tacking the sails as a well-oiled team. We started out conservatively with the fore mast and main mast sails both reefed, but were later able to shake out the reef on the fore mast sail for a little more speed without heeling the boat. We were able to sail near Robinson's Rock and saw that there were several seals sunning them selves there. We sailed midweek on a Thursday and there was lots of room for everybody on board. Taylor and Rachel cheerfully answered my many questions about the boat, the boat's offshore passages to and from the Caribbean each year and about local events. This was the first time sailing for the family seated across from us, but they had a good time. There was another group forward of us that pretty much kept to themselves so I didn't have a chance to chat with them, but they seemed to be enjoying themselves too. I did a bunch of small boat pleasure sailing and medium sized keelboat racing while I was at the University of Texas. I don't own a sailboat so the only sailing I have done since has been on Hobie Wave catamarans at all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and the Caribbean. I really enjoy chances to sail on bigger boats like the Schooner Heron. The Schooner Heron sails three trips daily from Rockport Harbor: Private morning sail, an afternoon Educational Eco Tour, and a Happy Hour Sunset Sail. Custom charters are also available on request. There is free parking in the harbor lot. Whether you have sailed before or just want to try it on vacation, I highly recommend sailing on the Schooner Heron as a solo, couple or family activity. You will have fun and be entirely comfortable with the ship and crew. They will treat you right. We're back in Rockland in a couple of weeks and will surely sail with them at least once more before heading back to Texas.

Also, if you go during black fly season you might want to consider a face net. They weren't too bad on the pond, but they tend to fly directly towards your eyes and nose, and the net keeps them off. Once we got to the water we suited up with life jackets and Zack helped us into the canoes. We paddled for around an hour and ended up seeing 3 different moose on the water plus another 2 on the ride home!
