I recently had two electricians come and take a look at bad Tesla charger. They both we're professional and kind. They got the work done fast and they even cleaning up afterword so I could pull my car back in immediately afterward. The one problem i have is some of the prices they charge are a little to high for the area. read more

I have had a HVAC maintenance contract with Academy Air for several years since they bought out Awtrey Heating and Cooling, who installed my furnace and AC. Please be aware that if you sign up for a maintenance contract with them, you WILL NOT EVER get your appointment kept on the scheduled date. They will call you and give you some line about being shorthanded and reschedule you at least once. They give you a halfday window that they can show up in, so plan on taking off at least two half days to wait for them to get around to you. Today was the last time-actively looking around for another company. read more

I was charged $4800.00 to have a hot water heater replaced and now they want to charge me another $1000.00 to replace the pressure valve! The water pressure was fine with the old water heater, pressure immediately reduced when they put the new hot water heater in. The lady Jen that I just talked to From management at Academy Air said that when the water was not running, the pressure was good once the water started running the pressure got bad well usually you check the pressure when the water is running really sounds like I'm getting a run around! I personally think that you should look at other companies, this company in my opinion has big problems especially with customer service and support! read more

Not normally one to call a repairman, but this was for a family member that needed assistance. Made the call and a service tech was out by mid afternoon. The tech Nick, was efficient and informative as to what was happening with the furnace. Nick showed us videos and photos of the items needing repair and the price to perform the repairs. After a discussion a decision was made to install a whole new HVAC system. The next day measurements were taken and the install was scheduled for the next day. On install day, Dylan and Billy arrived at promised time. Quick to get started and the old system was out and the whole new system installed and up and running in less than 6 hours. Fantastic install service as well as the tech who offered honest options. Academy Air did a great job! read more

We rearranged our Saturday to accommodate the service for plumbing. After he was late, he told me he didn't have the right parts to do the job. It was one simple valve and he couldn't even explain to me why he couldn't do it. He just said he couldn't get the valve until Monday. Any hardware stores carry these valves. JOE VETTER is his name so I would request someone with the ability to actually do the job. I don't recommend ACADEMY for anything other then disappointment read more

We had a whole new HVAC system put in 5 yrs ago by Academy. We also bought into the maintenance program where they come out every year to make sure everything works. Well a few months we called to have service done and they said our program had elapsed and we hadnt renewed it. Weird that they hadnt called to tell us it had lapsed so we signed up again and made appt for a service tech to come out. First thing he said was.."hey your furnace doesnt have a filter!" We had called months ago because we had no idea how to change or where the filter even was, but the lady said they were really busy and it would be a couple of months before they could come out and help us to find where the filter went. Long story short, not having a filter for a long time caused a bunch of other issues, both in the furnace and the AC unit. Plus they said we needed to have our vents cleaned and for the low low sum of around $2,000 they could take care of all our issues. I told the service tech we'd pass on all that, and asked him why didnt they call us when our maintenance agreement ended...every other company bugs us to death when any agreement ends. He said they used to do it, but now with so many customers they dont have time for that. AHA..so its more profitable to allow those maint. agreements to lapse so they can bill for issues that normally would be FREE because of the maintenance agreement. Gotcha..too many customers? Well, let me help you out Academy...you now have one less. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. After scheduling a sewer repair the tech performing the work realized the estimate was not correct. They then provided an updated estimate that was 4x the original. After declining the work I was refused a partial refund for services not rendered. This company should be ashamed. Please do yourself a favor and learn from my bad experience and go elsewhere for your plumbing needs. read more

I recently used Academy Air for a water heater replacement and overall had a very positive experience with their team. I only gave three stars because of pricing. The technician who initially came out to provide the bid, Tristin, was very kind and knowledgeable. He took the time to walk me through the issues with my existing water heater and clearly explained the options. I appreciated that they were able to schedule the installation quickly--within just two days--which was very helpful given the situation. There was a small scheduling hiccup, but it was resolved quickly and professionally. Joe Raney and Julian handled the installation. Joe was exceptional and really stood out in terms of customer service. He carefully walked me through the entire install process and took time to explain water heater care, maintenance tips, and the do's and don'ts moving forward. He was extremely patient and thorough, and I never felt rushed. Julian was also very kind and professional during the installation. Overall, I'm satisfied with the work and very appreciative of the professionalism from everyone I interacted with. The only drawback for me was the pricing. Because I needed the work done quickly (only available for the following 3 business days), I went ahead and signed the bid which was a little over $3600 for a standard 40 gal gas water heater, expansion tank, repiping of cold/hot lines, permit, install, and disposal. Afterward, when I had time to look into other quotes, I found that other reputable contractors were coming in much lower via phone - one almost half. The $400 fee to pull what is essentially a $50 permit felt particularly high, especially since competitors I spoke with charge closer to $150-$250 for that service. I was also interested in potentially enrolling in the maintenance program for HVAC and the water heater, but I'm hesitant because if an issue is found during maintenance, the repair pricing will not be competitive. That said, the technicians themselves--especially Joe--provided excellent service, and I truly appreciated their professionalism, patience, and willingness to educate me during the process. The technicians don't determine pricing so this in is no way a reflection of their service. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! I have been a customer for 30 years and in the last 3 years they have called to reschedule maintenance appointments because of emergencies. That's 6 times in a row. i had an appointment for today which i made in march 3 and at 1:30 they call to reschedule because tech is running behind. They asked when i would like to reschedule and i told them for tomorrow and they said the first opening was may 24! it's obvious they don't want to come out because they gave me the maintenance free for 2 years due to the many cancellations and they aren't making any money off of a free visit . This company has changed drastically and i would not refer them to anyone read more

they came last wed may 24 to clean out a main sew but their equipment was to big to fit between a wall and hot water heater. very disappointed that the co. had not furnished them with the right equipment, they could not do it from the roof because they were not equipped. i had to hurry and and i got Gravity but had to wait another day. they showed up and their equipment WORKED. no problem. academy had a coupon for a drain opening for $90 but they also charged 69 for service fee so it was only a $30 savings over Gravity! read more

Years ago, when locally owned, Academy/ALRO was a reliable professional firm. Over the last few years, however, under what looks like new management, their technicians have been a wildly different skill levels (one personally blew out a working air conditioner); they have resorted to marketing massive new systems and upselling unneeded features (as in screen-like filters to wrap around outdoor air-conditining units--something that in fact makes those units work worse); and they regularly cancel non-emergency service appointments. In short, Academy is now unreliably staffed; eager to make a quick buck; and unfaithful to its customers. read more

Used to be a very competitive to price install with Lowes. Morrison was bought out Academy Air, Chesterfield for all Lowes plumbing install work. Academy Air employee with broidered jacket arrived? Received multiple texts from Lowes that Morrison Plumbing assigned and "Your Professional will arrive between 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM"? I have experienced bait and switch product marketing but never service installer. Academy Air employee not only bragged owns Morrison but heaby sales pitch ended up pulling out Academy Air Home Service warranty program and Home Depot brochure for a $1600 quote to install a Rheem. That was after I declined a $3300 quote to install a EcoWater from Lowes. Claims AO Smith water softeners from Lowes are not upward pressurized for release? TBD. Long story short, Sean was NOT an installer. 110% salesman. Did no research in crawlspace and outside to review where existing pressure release tubing goes and where exits outside of house. Office slack and polar shirt for sales not install quote. Another quote did this research. IF Academy Air did install detail, they would see they need to RE-route the release tubing to ensure water drains AWAY from house. Likely cause why current Culligan not working. Again, sales pitch, not trained installer. Lots of pressure on 0% financing including 24 month financing with Home Depot. The detail estimate emailed to me was extremely disappointing. "Whole Home System" description subtotal $1,600? No breakout by parts and labor. See attached photo attached to Google review. $800 cash deposit is NOT Lowes policy and indicates cash flow problem from vendor. Declined $250 haul away of current system and $1600 did not include water softener price that I had to pick up!! Wow! Essentially $1600 labor for 2 hour replacement of water softener!! Replace softener ONLY. All water lines, pressure release value and release pressure tubing in place. Academy Air google reviews are RE-routed to their home page to READ only. To write, must go to Google map and "write a review". Academy Air is now a monopoly in St Louis metro area for Missouri and Illinois. Academy Air is contracted installer for Home Depot and Lowes. I am very disappointed in my experience with Academy Air. Last November, I signed up through Home Depot for your promotional inspection and enrolled in the annual service plan covering both furnace and AC service. From the start, Academy repeatedly rescheduled my furnace inspection appointment, which should have been an early warning. In April, I called to schedule my AC service. The earliest available appointment offered was late July, and I was told I would need to keep my entire day open (8 a.m. to 6 p.m.) because exact appointment times were not provided. I voiced concern over the three-month delay but was reassured that earlier openings would come up and that I would be called. No such call ever came. Despite the challenges of having a daughter with a medical condition, we rearranged schedules to accommodate the July appointment. On the morning of the scheduled visit, I received a message at 7:30 a.m. stating that my appointment was being cancelled because Academy was "fully committed to other customers due to weather conditions." This is the same excuse given when my first inspection was repeatedly rescheduled. When I called to reschedule, I was told again that I would face a three-month wait and the same all-day requirement. This is unacceptable. Academy Air promotes "family ownership" values, but my experience has been broken commitments, cancelled appointments, and disregard for customers once you've collected the annual plan fee. In my view, selling a service plan under these circumstances is deceptive and borders on consumer fraud. I am requesting a full refund of my service plan fee. If this refund is not issued promptly, I will be filing a complaint with the Missouri Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division. read more

Only use them at this point since we have a service contract on our HVAC systems. They don't go above and beyond for their customers. They make their customers rebook when they have too many last minute appointments pop up instead of honoring set appointments. You can't even get a close appointment for the season you are wanting unless you book months (4-6) in advance. Never had an issue with any of their employees but it's frustrating to have to explain our warranty each and every appointment instead of them having it in the electronic paperwork. I had them come out to do $8000 worth of work on a home I bought. I wasn't told at the time of the work that I needed an electrical permit from the county. What I also learned is that the company is supposed to pull the permit before work begins. It wasn't done because Academy had lost its Missouri license because someone got behind on the paperwork (they said) and they were in the process of getting everything worked out. There were 2 guys working at my house and because 1 of them had no idea what he was doing, everything had to be redone. It took approximately 4 months for Academy to get the permit and all of the messed up electrical issues fixed! Now mind you, no one is allowed to live in the home until the inspection is complete or the county will issue a fine. I asked over and over to speak with Brian, the electrical department manager and never, NOT ONE TIME did he call me to discuss this horrible situation. Their only saving grace was the one guy who knew what he was doing and did his best to keep me updated on the permit situation. His name is Aiden. He needs to be running the place; he's the only one who actually cares about the customers. This is just part of what I had to deal with. In a nutshell, if you choose to hire them grab your ibuprofen and a bottle of wine. You're gonna need it! read more

Buy a furnace is a major purchase and you wanna feel comfortable and secure no matter what company you go with this company is not it. ‼‼‼‼Please please please don't chose this company for ANY service‼‼‼‼This is my experience and it is a real. You will have nothing but headaches after. This is your warning. I got a furnace installed three weeks ago from now. I wrote a check which I paid cash. They were really quick to get here to collect the check and do the work, but they were not quick at all to correct the issues that I'm having with the furnace. The first frustrating started when the technician that installed the furnace asked me if I would like for him to leave the thermostat behind for me to install it myself after I just paid him $5200 to put the furnace and thermostat in. I was trying to figure out why would I want to install it myself if he was here to install it and it was a part of the contract. He said if your gas doesn't blow out cold, shut this line off and then turn it back on. (Monday's service technician told me no he shouldn't have told you that). I start having issues two weeks in. Now the Customer service reps they're not gonna pass on your message so make sure you're recording the phone calls because I sure was..... Called customer service on Thursday at 11:18pm stated she would send an email to service technician to call me Friday to schedule. Told her I wasn't off til 5p. She said ok I'll note that. No call. Called Saturday afternoon 1:09p customer service states no message was sent over. And scheduled me for Monday. Woke up Sunday morning I have no hot water or heat. Called spire on Sunday morning 5:57a He stated the gas line was shut off and that maybe the tech forgot to turn it back on. Monday Services technician comes and say it's a possibility there could be a clog . I'm confused on why he didn't check the clog. He stated that I should monitor it and let them know if something was going on. He told me the service technicians were on call until 9 p.m. so I don't understand why I never got a schedule or a call from my first call on Friday. Called Tuesday at 5:57am customer service rep state that they open at 7 am and that he"ll note for them to call me urgent. No call Called at 8:45a to see when a service technician would be out and I had to walk through the whole process again. I informed the lady that this would be my fourth time calling you guys and that I could not afford to wait from 8 to 6 throughout the whole day when this was my only off day I had other things to do. And I needed to set time. She put me on hold again and stated after the service technician got done with the job that he was on this was at 9 o'clock that he will be heading my way. Just so you know an installer and a service technician are two different things. Called at 1145am to see when a technician would be out. I am so frustrated and pissed off with this company. I regret ever going with them when the Customer service agent first came out to give me a quote. I felt uncomfortable and I should have followed that feeling and just went with who made me comfortable, and that was the Hoffman brothers that was my biggest mistake, but not going with them. I believe they know I'm frustrated and they're making me wait on purpose, but if they are willing to do this to me, they would do it to you. Save your money. Save your time. Save your frustration. Now, if you got time to waste and don't mind wasting money for academy, air, to keep coming back-and-forth to your house go right ahead, but I believe they're selling lemons. I've had my furnace set on 85° since five this morning 3/11/2025. It is now 12 PM and the furnace is reading the same. So the gas lightning and say well at least it's warm outside because that made me feel better about spending $5200. I also added a picture of the first review I made, which was good. But I soon removed it as soon as I start having the issues. I am not removing my review because this is a real experience and people need to know. read more

Academy now Morrison Air is the worst! We had been a customer with Academy for years and were very happy. Since the change it is not the same. We have had a service contract that supports annual checks on AC and Heating. We had a scheduled check on our heater on 10/27/25 and on that day they called to state they had to cancel and reschedule for JANUARY 2026. We were disappointed but said ok. On December 3rd our heater went out and they came to service it the next day. It was stated there was a blockage and it was an easy fix. In addition, it was recommended that we have our gas company check things out which we were able to have completed later that day. During the night of the 4th (less than 24hrs later) our heater went out again. We called to ask for service and we was told it would be 3 DAYS LATER!! We found another company to come out and take a look instead of waiting 3DAYS. It was stated that the blockage that was reported to be fixed by Academy was not fixed and the new technician showed us the blockage. When I called to ask for a refund I was denied and the manager kept repeating herself. I would have been happy to just have the service visit fee refunded, but no. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. read more

I have had some good service, furnace/AC checks. However, I needed to upgrade the system in an add on room. The technician could not understand that what I wanted was a PTAC unit (like in a motel), and came up with only a 10,000 dollar rebuild of an in place system I already had. I declined, and then got the PTAC unit for a few thousand dollars. I scheduled my annual furnace check months in advance. When the day finally came, I blocked the whole day to wait for the technician to arrive. At 2:30, I got a call that there had been an "emergency" (lame excuse) and they needed to reschedule. I asked to talk to a supervisor and was told none were available and that a "request" would be put into the system. About 1 and 1/2hours later I got a return call. Essentially the supervisor did not care. I did not rant or rave; I was polite and civil, but it is obvious that customer service is not high on their list. The supervisor said that this check up was a "free one" because my "contract" had run out, but that was too bad for me. I know nothing is free; the technician would have come and then billed me before going out the door. I said to cancel my furnace check and stated that I would not be back. The supervisor basically said, OK, and hung up on me. Other businesses have had the courtesy to call early in the morning and provide a target time for their technician to arrive. This place lets you sit for hours and then expects you to accommodate their schedule. If they had enough service people, and scheduled them appropriately, then maybe their customer service would improve. If you have had good service from these people, then continue to use them. I won't. read more

When I mean I tried my best to work with this company, I had more compassion for them, then they have for me, my furnace went out I was without heat, they sent the young man out, great guy!!! I was told the parts had to be ordered, no one was keeping me updated, but the guy that came to do the work, every time I call the company, I was told someone would call me back which they never did until the very end, when they knew I have had enough, I went over a month waiting on the parts, and every time I called they had me feeling like I was doing something wrong, they was nonchalant about everything to me, the only person that showed any type of concern was the young fellow, he finally asked them to bring me some heaters out, which only did so much , I have a indoor pet that was so uncomfortable, I had to sit in one spot basically just to stay warm, had my daughter to call the lady was very nasty with her, told my daughter they tell everybody it takes 30 to 60 days for a part to come back, which was not true I would have never went with the company knowing my situation was too serious, it's understandable that things happen sometimes, but not no 30 to 60 days, I never dealt with a company that don't reach out to their customers and just feel like they just supposed to wait? Plus my furnace was left looking horrible, I wanted to try another company, but I had already paid them up front for the service, Plus half down for the parts, still no ?????parts, keep try to bring more heaters out, which is only running my light bill up,I want nothing else to do wth company, then had the nerves to think I still wanted to do the monthly plans, took money out of my account, but never finished the work read more

Update- never got the 600 ameren rebate cause academy just wouldn't submit for it. Shocked that they don't follow up even though I've reached out so much. The Initial install I thought was fine minus the bad customer service, until another tech found that the way they ran the furnace duct for the flue isn't correct and they want 400 to make it right. USE ANYONE ELSE, they just don't care. When we declined after we were clear we were not paying to have them fix what they improperly installed, they tried to charge us a diagnostic fee. Insane Not generally one to write negative reviews. As far as equipment, the unit is running fine. I do have to say, the technician they sent completely destroyed the carpet in my hallway, not to mention was so large that he had to put his hands on my walls to navigate through my hallway and up and down my stairs, leaving tons of blackstreaks from his hands on the walls. Was gunna let that slide. but.. the sales rep who bid the job had mentioned an ameren rebate and higher efficiency if i went with a 17 seer. did that, unfortunately just spoke with ameren 4 months after the install, and no rebate application was ever submitted. have tried following up with the rep here at academy but have heard nothing back again after weeks. just kind of a bummer, after they are paid, youre not really a customer any more. spent nearly 10k with them, other companies will at least answer the phone when you drop that kind of money. I was very surprised to find a place that could not only do the plumbing work that I needed but was also able to address the electrical issues I was having along with any HVAC I may need as well. I called Academy Air first in order to get a problems I was having with my hot water pressure fixed. I had already called in 3 other companies and was often told that I needed a PRV installed and that may help the hot water pressure as well as the hissing in my toilets and my poor pressure to the reverse osmosis filtration. When Academy came out, the plumber immediately started assessing the issue and let me know that he wouldn't recommend installing the PRV and that it would most likely make the problem a lot worse. He showed me from turning some valves on and off that there was an insane amount of calcification in our hot water heater and that the recently installed FloTech would not only break that down but probably cause the calcified pipes to start leaking. We had no other option but to replace the hot water heater and he said if that didn't work it meant the pipes running to the second floor were 1/2 and not 3/4 but to try this first. The new hot water heater system worked! The pressure for my hot water is the best it's ever been, I can now run tubs, dishwasher and washing machine at once with no issue with a change in pressure. It didn't fix the toilet hissing but he said it was unlikely to do so but we got our toilets replaced a few weeks later and that issue was fixed too. We also had new appliances installed and my new fridge was pulling too much power so we called Academy back out and they found out that we needed a new dedicated outlet ran to the back of the fridge since it was previously linked to a GFI that kept tripping. He was also able to assess that the other GFI that went out permanently just needed replacing. I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. My fridge doesn't cut off after 5 minutes anymore, my hot water pressure is amazing and we don't have any more calcification issues. The job was done efficiently and fast and I am very happy we went through Academy for these repairs. They were honest and didn't do anything that wasn't going to help me, unlike the other plumbers who came out and kept pushing the PRV and hot water heater together. read more
