This place has the potential to be a nice ice cream spot, but it still has a lot of growing to do. I don't think it was quite ready for opening day.
The place itself is rather empty looking, a few table and chairs but no decorations other than some lights. I think it would be nice with some framed prints/pictures on the wall and a small shelf set up with napkins, utensils, etc.
There is a menu on the back wall that lists the ice cream sandwiches available that week. The menu changes weekly and there is also a place where you can write suggestions of what types of ice cream you'd like to see in the future. I think this is a great way to involve the customers and give them an incentive to come back. There were no prices listed on the menu, but the mini sandwiches were 30kr and the big sandwiches were 45kr. Both are half off for their opening week. Going forward they will only offer the mini sizes.
The staff (a young girl and her mom) were very nice. However, they seemed like they were quite on the same page about the ingredients in each of the ice cream sandwiches. At one point they pulled out a paper that showed the ingredients for each item and that was helpful for one woman who wanted to know exactly what was in each item. I am not vegan, gluten free or dairy free (though I eat these items by choice sometimes), but for someone who is I could see them being hesitant about eating an ice cream sandwich when they didn't have certainty about the ingredients in them. It just seemed a little disorganized and not ready for opening day.
We ordered three mini ice cream sandwiches and received two "snickers" bars for checking in with Yelp. The ice creams themselves were good, but not amazing. When you think about the fact that they are vegan/gf/df they are good for that category of food, but overall I think they were pretty standard. The mint chocolate chip one was my favorite and the mint taste was so strong and fresh, unlike any mint chocolate chip I've had before. The peanut butter one was also nice. They raw vanilla and chocolate one was dairy free and made with homemade almond milk, but the ice cream was very grainy and the cookie was too chewy and messy for my liking.
Acacia is only open two days a week right now, Friday and Saturday.
I hope this place grows into a nice ice cream (and possibly coffee) spot, but I think it still has a long way to go. My recommendations for them would be to have a chart that shows the ingredients for each menu item, put up pictures of the menu items or display the sandwiches in the freezer case for people to see, and add more decoration to the place.
Anyways, welcome to the neighborhood Acacia :) Looking forward to seeing the spot evolve. read more
