I could touch the popcorn ceiling in my bare feet without standing on tip-toes to do it and I'm just 5'10". There's a phone in the room that looks like one I remember from a 1970's episode of Baretta. The bathroom is in the closet. Or is it vice-versa? Anyway, the woman at the check-in desk was quite nice and showed us quite a large array of DVD's we could watch for free and just leave them in the room. Definitely different. Decent location near Amtrak, especially considering this is a town with no taxi service, so you have to schlep your luggage everywhere once you get off the train unless you know Bob.

When we walked in to our room, it was pretty stinky, but nothing unbearable - maybe they should have just cracked a window for the day or something. "Stuffy" is a good word to describe it. There was a bit of hair (not mine) on my pillow, but other than that everything was pretty clean and normal. And there was free Wi-Fi! Exceptional customer service, as the front desk lady went out of her way to get me a corkscrew. They didn't have one in the building, but she took my bottle, ran across the street to her friends at the bar, and opened it up for me! So nice! I really appreciated that! If i could make one suggestion for the Crossroads Inn, i would say maybe get some apples or bananas added to the (FREE!) Continental Breakfast menu. The bagels and muffins and donuts and cookie bar things were really good, I just think it's better to start the day with fruit. You know? Also - the TV in the room was really really small, but i don't feel right complaining about that. It worked perfectly, and there was a million channels, so it's all good!

We had an espresso, a Rosemary honey latte, breakfast burritos, and a raspberry cream cheese pastry. All were very good, especially when you consider the tiny town setting in the middle of nowhere. The breakfast burritos were the best we've had from a "fast food" type of place-- they did them in a panini press so the outside was golden brown and the inside was very delicious. Unit appears to be recently updated with paint and new fixtures. Our unit had a full kitchen and a separate bedroom also. This is what the mom and pop motels strive for, comfort without the bs. We will come back for sure. The view of the mountains and wildlife are added luxuries that no fancy big name can supply.
