Happened to look at Yelp at just the right time on my long road trip - needed coffee and Folklore hit the spot. I don't know anything about the city of Conrad, but I wouldn't have expected to find a coffee shop like this in a city of a little over 2500 - trendy, inviting, a cool meeting place for people to chat, read, or have a meeting even... and the coffee was great! The baristas were super friendly and I ended up ordereding an iced lattee with butterbier on their recommendation - it wasn't too sweet and I was very happy with the order. I also ordered a panini to go, which was not as good as the coffee - but the prices were more than reasonable and it sustained me for a couple hours til my next stop. One thing I also loved about this place is randomly, the variety of magazines available to peruse - not your typical fashion magazines, but they also had national geographic and some other ones as well, which intrigued me enough to sit and savor my drink a bit before heading back on the road. Note: the "get directions" via the Yelp app will take you to a complete different spot and direction, so make sure you type in the address manually into your GPS to get to the right spot! :) read more

Needed to have a place in Conrad to conduct an interview and I was overwhelmed at the amazing quality of the coffee and excellent customer service that I received at this little local coffee shop. I will be returning again and will not only have lunch but pastries. The tomato basil soup was obviously homemade and had a little tang and I enjoyed it immensely. This is a gem of a coffeehouse...and this coming from a certified coffee snob. I wasn't sure what to expect since they seem to be out in the middle of nowhere, and was delightfully surprised! At first the ambiance seemed cold as the space is white washed with high ceilings. But then the music from the RECORD player hit us (old country). There is something special about the hiss and crackle of a record... The owner (and his wife?) working behind the counter were SO nice, even though my dad was a little too excited about the place (LOL!). The coffee knocked my socks off and they are starting a monthly subscription service!! You better believe I'm signing up for that! My mom got a fresh sweet roll (delicious) and my husband got a chicken salad sandwich (DELICIOUS!!!!). I can't say enough about this place. If you are in the area STOP IN!! This place is amazing. Being from Portland OR where coffee is an obsession, Folklore would hold its own even there. It's an oasis in Conrad. Small batch roasted coffee, espresso, pour over, cold brew... They have it all. Incredible baked goods, paninis, live music. And the wifi is super fast. I'll be back as often as I can. read more

This place seems to be staffed solely by the owner? Now, before anyone makes any assumptions about the service or the food, let me tell you, it's all amazing. The coffee was downright superb (he roasts his own beans right in the bistro), and the food (made from scratch) is heavenly. My husband and I stopped in on our way out of Conrad, but if we ever find ourselves passing through again, we will definitely be stopping in again. read more

This coffee shop is awesome. They roast the coffee in a giant train-looking roaster right near the front counter - you wont get fresher than that! Pastries are delicious (especially the cinnamon rolls), and I love that they have a gluten-free option. :) read more
