There is actually easy street parking in front of the building. El Borrego is a favorite of the locals in Kokomo. The tables and chairs are carved colorful tropical scenes. They serve traditional Mexican favorites and I was in the mood for a couple tacos. You can buy a platter of 20 mixed tacos for $69 or order them individually. I selected the soft shell Tacos Supreme, one chicken and one shrimp. The tacos were very good with lots of cheese, meats and lettuce. I also picked up some tortillas in their grocery store. They carry an impressive variety of spices and dried peppers. I return and recommend.

They feature some unique items on their menu, and everything I have ever tried has been delicious. My favorite is the veggie quesadilla, it is very different than the average quesadilla that is served at other Mexican restaurants. I always order the platter that comes with rice and beans, because both are excellent. The red sauce has heat but is very flavorful. I always order extra red sauce to take home. If you don't care for hot sauces but enjoy flavor you can mix a little sour cream into the red sauce to make it milder. Service is always friendly and helpful. Tortas Johann is the best reason to visit Kokomo!

Today changed that. This hidden gem is a jackpot! The staff is warm and welcoming. The atmosphere is minimal but inviting. The menu is not your typical quesadillas and burritos although they do have them too. We opted for the guacamole, molcateje, tacos al pastor and gringas. The quack was chunky and delicious! The molcateje was hot and bountiful. Steak, shrimp, chicken and chorizo piled high. My tacos al pastor were tender and flavorful. Beer was ice cold and at $5 a pop, you couldn't go wrong. I think this restaurant is better than some of the much pricier options in Fishers and Indy. My only regret is that we don't live closer. It's a must visit when in Kokomo.

Came in with pretty low expectations (being from Texas where the real tacos are at) but was…read morepleasantly surprised by the quality of the tacos. Good meat quality, the taste of the pico on the tacos pulled the flavor of the tacos together well. There were a couple of disappointments. I ordered the chips and salsa, the number of chips in the basket could've been counted on my fingers and the salsa is very watery. The flavor was decent on the salsa and spice was nice but the liquidity of it was rough. It was as if they put their pico in water and served it. Another complaint was there was an added cost to add onions to the tacos. While it was only a quarter, still seemed unnecessary. I also would've liked some limes and sauce with my tacos. The only sauce I saw offered was packets of taco sauce one might get from Jack in the Box. I am willing to go again because of the flavor of the meat and tacos. I may even try something new!

I originally was going to get the taco combo plate, which comes with three tacos, Mexican rice, and beans, but the meat choices were chicken or beef, so instead I did three a la carte tacos with chicken, carnitas, and steak. The steak one was my favorite of the three. They were topped with raw onions and cilantro, and served with some grilled onions that were on the side. The tortillas themselves were traditional corn tortillas. My boyfriend got a burrito with steak and chicken, which was topped with shrimp and served with queso, and he said it was very good too. We also all split a pitcher of frozen margaritas which were good, and you can choose flavors too although we just did traditional lime. We did have to ask for glasses of water a few times, which is not a big deal. Overall the food and drinks here were tasty, though.

Extremely disappointing experience from start to finish. The food was nowhere near what we…read moreexpected. The salsas basically tasted like straight tomato soup--bland, watery, and lacking any real flavor or spice. The chips weren't any better. They came out cold, had absolutely no salt on them, and honestly tasted stale and flavorless. Chips and salsa should be one of the easiest things to get right, but even that was disappointing. The biggest issue was that my chicken came out raw in the middle. That is completely unacceptable and a serious food safety concern. There is absolutely no reason anyone should be served undercooked chicken at a restaurant. After seeing that, I completely lost my appetite and didn't feel comfortable continuing to eat my meal. My friend's food wasn't much better. Their chorizo was burnt and overcooked, making it hard to enjoy. Between the raw chicken, burnt chorizo, cold and unsalted chips, and salsa that tasted like tomato soup, there really wasn't anything about the food that we enjoyed. We came in expecting a good meal and left extremely disappointed. When you're paying to eat at a restaurant, the bare minimum should be properly cooked, flavorful food that is safe to eat. Unfortunately, that wasn't our experience at all. Definitely would not recommend based on the food we were served.
