I had planned on doing a race with my mates for a good while. Once we confirmed the dates, we couldn't wait to go race.
I had checked the track out before and although it might not be the biggest indoor circuit, it certainly has some very good corners. I opted for the Imola sprint, which is a 10 lap Practice/Qualifying to decide the grid order and then green light.
We had 12 people on the day, its not the easiest track to overtake but if you have the right technique, you should be able to take people coming out of the corners, the 2 straights are brilliant. The only complaint me and the rest of the guys had was the bump in the middle of the 2nd straight, where the 2 building meet. We all woke up the next day with sore backsides but other than that, its a good crack. The cars are easy to control, I had moments under harsh braking where the tail was sliding, this is easy to correct. The 50 laps didn't seem too long, they go very quick so anyone wanting to spend more than 30 mins racing, shouldn't opt for the Imola sprint.
Saying that, the 30 mins we spent racing was enough to bring out the sweat in the fitest of us. If this isn't something you have tried before, you will feel very sore in the arms. This can be avoided if you grip the steering wheel loosly.
I am already planning on booking our 2nd event for early next year.
If you have never done karting before, then you should definately try Absolute Karting Slough. read more
