Legacy Worth Protecting--Why Let It Slip? As someone who…read moredeeply values family legacy and community trust, I'm disheartened by the volume of unresolved complaints on here and poor reviews surrounding Value City and other Furniture stores--especially when reading from resources, it's part of the Schottenstein family's long-standing retail heritage. They also own DSW and others. The Schottenstein name carries weight. It represents decades of entrepreneurship, philanthropy, and leadership in American retail. So, it's hard to understand why a company rooted in such values would allow its reputation to erode through repeated customer service failures, delivery issues, and lack of follow-through--many of which are documented across Yelp. I walked into Value City Furniture with $2,200 in store credit from a previously returned product that I paid for. and a $9,000 credit limit--ready to make a purchase. But I had misplaced the physical card tied to the credit. The store manager could see the credit was mine, yet told me I could not use it without the card. No empathy. No effort to help. Just a cold refusal: "We can't do anything unless you have the card." It was like going into your bank with a 2200.00 balance and being told that because you lost your debit card, you can no longer use your balance and given no resolution to replace the card. I felt I was met with attitude because I returned a mattress that I could not sleep in during the trial period. I was sold on the verbal promise that I had 120 days and I could return the mattress. I trusted and believed the wonderful sales lady who sold me over $8,000.00 in product. After waking up with crippling back pain, I tried to return the mattress and was met with resistance and advised I had to continue to sleep and suffer for at least 30 days, and that they had a no-refund policy. When I ask what happened to the grantee's 120-day return policy. I was then shown the fine print on the contract that you get a one-time reselection. The marketing of Grantee's 120-day Return without advertising a no-refund policy in one sentence or statement was a strategic marketing deception. A cheaper mattress may be worse, and a more expensive mattress selection would have been non-returnable. So, I requested store credit, and I was denied, and told taking another mattress was my only option. I didn't request or feel I needed to sit down with an attorney before giving payment after spending hours with my trustworthy store rep. I trusted that she had told me everything I needed to know. She left out the one-time reselection and the money, non-refundable part. I had to involve the BBB to receive an in-store credit for the amount I paid for the mattress. I returned home feeling stunned. How could a company just deny me access to my own money? It was like a bank that can see you have 2200.00 in your account, but the bank tells you it will remain there until you find your debit card, with no offer of a solution for the lost card. Later, I found the cards. On the back, it clearly states: "If this card is lost or stolen, the remaining balance may be replaced." So, I returned to the store, to make sure the cards were still active because I had called their headquarters, hoping for a resolution. I wanted to make sure they didn't cancel out the lost card. Instead, I was met with the same cold demeanor. No eye contact. No welcome. Just: "Your cards are still active." No effort to re-engage me as a customer. No attempt to earn my trust--or my business. Maybe it was because they only want customers who will not reject bad business practices and accept being taken advantage of without speaking up. This wasn't just poor service. It was a missed opportunity. If I were managing that store, I would have said: "Let me call headquarters and see what we can do." I would have shown empathy, offered solutions, and maybe even introduced a sales rep to help me use the $9,000 credit line I had available. That's what good service--and good salesmanship--looks like. Instead, I left feeling like my presence didn't matter. Like my money didn't matter. And that's a shame, because the furniture appears beautiful. But beauty without integrity is a hollow brand. The Schottenstein family built a legacy on trust, entrepreneurship, and service. If this is the direction their stores are heading--cold, transactional, dismissive, and shady--it's not just disappointing. It's tragic. I no longer feel safe doing business there. I fear retaliation is possible through damaged goods, delayed delivery, and then pushed toward the same warranty company so many others have warned about. I don't know what to do now, because I no longer trust the company that is holding my money or their product that the reviewer is complaining about. Save the Legacy and the designers of the furniture, and practice good business. Please! I hate to see a store closing. --

Many issues: -Concrete color is salmon, not tan, even AAA workers have said they don't think it is the color they intended -$10k in damages to asphalt driveway (that we were assured by the owner wouldn't happen because we would start our build in January when the ground is frozen) -Major grading issues that causes pool to flood any time it rains -Project abandoned by Brian in August 2021 -Firepit was thrown off to the side and not incorporated into our design -Poor Quality/Workmanship with concrete: no 90° angles, crooked lines, sharp surface, etc. -Tan fence installed with 3-4 different shades (after wrong fence color against our HOA was delivered) -Backwash line overflows/doesn't drain and is eroding our basement foundation and retaining wall -Not enough characters to continue this list. May 2022: Still waiting on project to be finished/corrected. No urgency because this is their "busy season" and have new pools to install. This is the biggest financial mistake I have ever made. Richard Shaver (owner) sat at my breakfast table and told my husband and I that he would build us a backyard oasis. He talked about God and doing good for people. Haven't heard from him since the day we signed the contract. I would love for him to photograph our project and proudly present it on his social media without using Photoshop. If I could have them dig it up and refund us, I would. May 2025 - still flooding, Richard Shaver is a ghost!!

I asked for help with a washer inside my outdoor faucet. The young man in the washer/dryers was of no help and told me the man who knew was at lunch. The employee is Hispanic and my wife yesterday on June 4 was inquiring about buying a washer and dryer. The employee, a Hispanic, listened to my wife and start talking to her in Spanish in which other customers were around and thought my wife couldn't speak English. I went to the store after work to purchase the washer/ dryer and the same salesman was not there and had to wait 15 minutes while other Lowe employees came to help me find or call him, he didn't show up. They told him what I was wearing so he could come over to me. After 15 minutes, he showed up but another person came into the section and he went to them and spent another 15 minutes in which the person was asking him on information not buying anything. I had enough and went to the customer service counter. I informed the employee that I wanted to buy the washer and dryer. I told them that I wanted to speak to the floor manager and they told me that the assistant manager was on their way. I didn't want to deal with the appliances employee however he followed me to the desk and hung around the desk while in the background other customers were waiting for him. I didn't want to deal with but he wanted to hear my conversation. Also, he told my wife that he would deliver the machines by Friday. The salesperson at customer service told me that they can only deliver it by June 11, 2026. The assistant manager talked to me but the appliance employee still hung around. I told him what happened and he looked like he didn't want to deal with this guy. I have done business with this store in the past and me and my family were treated with respect. After serving 40 years in the military and proud veteran, me and my family were treated by this employee of; Stereotyping customers Abandoned workstation while customers are waiting Harassing customers by hanging around them Lying to customers Disrespectful to customers especially veterans Employee doesn't care about his customers purchasing store merchandise Assistant manager didn't seem he wanted to fix the situation I called today on 4 June and the employees can't locate the manager. This store states that they care about customers especially veterans. Just by placing a parking space for veterans does not mean that it. Having employees such as their appliance salesman is totally shameless and VETERANS, I strongly encourage you to think about purchasing merchandise from this Lowe's. This will be reported to the Better Business Bureau and Lowe's Corporate Office.

I'm a weekend woodworker without a table saw. On Friday, May 31, I took two 4 x 8 sheets of oak…read moreplywood (worth about $100) to Accent, asking them to cut the sheets into pieces for a cabinet I was making. Earlier in the week, I asked if they did that sort of thing for individuals. "Yes," I was told. "We'll just charge you for shop time." When I delivered the plywood, I brought cut sheets which included clear dimensions, along with sketches of how the pieces should be positioned according to the wood grain. The shop manager deemed my writing "readable." He wrote up a work order that said, "Cut 2 pc customer's plywood to his dimensions labor only," and promised the wood within a few hours. Two hours later, I get the call that the plywood is ready; kudos to them for keeping a schedule, which is about the only thing that went right. I picked up the wood, paying a $50 labor charge. I didn't check the dimensions at the time, because I assumed I was working with a professional millwork. Cutting plywood should be among the most basic tasks they do. The shop manager seemed to think so, and the work order promised as much. This assumption was my first mistake. As I began work on my project the next day, I discovered that all of the pieces were out of square by about 3/16 of an inch. Accent is closed on the weekends, so I was faced with a dilemma. Should I try to salvage the crooked plywood, or should I give up a weekend of work time - plus time off from my regular job - to return the crooked plywood on Monday? Because I was pressed for time, I tried to make do with what I had. That was my second mistake; looking back, I should've waited and shown up on their doorstep the following Monday morning. Instead, on Monday, I sent a letter to Accent explaining the situation. I said that, though I had assembled the body of the cabinet (using a power planer and shims to approximate squareness), the out-of-square cuts were evident for anyone with a tape measure. As of now - a week later - I've gotten no acknowledgement of my letter. At the least, I hoped for an offer to examine the partially-assembled cabinet, and the possibility of a refund. This, to me, is the absolute least that the company could've done. For past projects, I've gone to Lowe's or Home Depot. Both stores will cut down plywood sheets to customer's approximate dimensions. They don't promise accurate cuts, and they display signs on their panel saws saying so. Notably, Lowe's and Home Depot don't charge a dime. This cabinet was special - a birthday gift for a family member - so I was willing to pay for accurate cuts. So, I paid a so-called professional millwork $50 to provide a service that was of no better quality than I could get for free at a home improvement store. I don't know what Accent Millwork and Supply can do in terms of larger projects. Presumably, they deal with homebuilders and general contractors, and, presumably, they offer better service in return for the high volume and larger profits of these business customers. However, Accent had no trouble taking my $50 to cut a couple of sheets of plywood. They made a promise of quality service when they did so, a promise they did not fulfill. They cut my plywood inaccurately, exhibited no pride in workmanship, and showed no curiosity about whether or not my claims - the claims of a paying customer - were valid. I don't know how well the company performs for their large customers, but if they can't cut a couple of pieces of plywood square, I wouldn't trust them to do anything else. And woe to the smaller homebuilder who might have to compete with a larger contractor for Accent's time, attention, and quality. This is my opinion, but based on how Accent treated me, their service, quality, and integrity is for sale to the highest bidder.
