I had been going to Autumn as I liked how she cut my short hair. I have been on time the entire time but had one appointment recently where I had a major leak at home that I had contractors over for and called over an hour before the appointment and said I was running late and could I come 15 minutes after. Renee said no and I was told several times that if I came 15 minutes late, I would have to be rescheduled. I pointed out that I had previously agreed to come in later when she was running late and I was asking for some leeway this time. Still told no and if I didn't arrive within 15 minutes of the appointment, it would be rescheduled. I couldn't believe that they could not make an accommodation the one time I needed it. So I told her I would keep it and was very stressed but was able to make it on time. Autumn took me in 7 minutes late (so really it's only 8 minutes that we are talking about), did not say one word to me the entire appointment and was sullen the entire time, was not offered any refreshment. It was very immature, it was very unprofessional and I found out after I decided to cancel the rest of my appointments today, that she had canceled them all that same day without saying anything to me. That is really unbelievably rude and a horrible way to treat your customer, specially since the last time I was there, they called to say the appointment before me had arrived late and could I come half an hour later, which I was happy to do. And previous to that, she's also run late and I don't make a big deal about it. To me it goes both ways. It was very poorly handled by Autumn, Renee and the salon. Never going back. read more

Okay I I spent the whole summer working and taking summer classes so I decided to treat myself. My visit was in August before fall semester started. So I came here once for a spa package of a massage, facial and a pedi. I only like two out of the three. The massage was long and good but I felt like she could have tried different method and not same up and down my back. Facial was great but short. and then the pedi was just plain...they didnt really scrub the dead skin off my feet and just soaked it in wax (which didnt do anything to my feet btw) and she didnt even leave it on for that long...but whatever it was a long day and I was ready to get outta there. the experience was okay and then the cashier girl(blonde hair girlw ith a choppy bob) at the end made it all worse. She was just being stuck up and rude. She didnt say thank you or asked how my experience was. She charged me and handed the reciept...no, she didnt handed me the reciept, she threw it on the counter. This salon is transitioning its name to Abram Salon & Spa; although I don't know why or much more details. Few, if any, of the stylists listed in previous reviews are still there. For such a large salon, they really don't have many stylists and it was practically dead during my appointment last week. Anyway, that may have nothing to do with my rating. I had an appointment with a "master stylist" so my expectations were pretty high. My hair was very long and one length. I explained to the "master" that I wanted butterfly layers and length just below my shoulders. He looked as if he didn't know what butterfly layers were so I told him I wanted lots of layers with wispy ends. I showed him five different example photos where the many layers were quite clear. He said something about not cutting layers in the front area because it would be too thin but said "you'll see". I'm not sure that I got any type of recognizable hairstyle. My long hair was chopped off and some layers were added to the ends but that is about all. Now I could tell when he started cutting that it wasn't going to work based on the way the hair was directed as he cut it. My hair is very fine and there is a lot of it so it is very heavy. While he was cutting my hair I tried explaining that because if the weight, my hair packs down unless it has a lot of layers to remove the weight. Again, the master stylist said said "you'll see" and he was right - I saw that my hair was just exactly as I said it would be unless more hair was cut. So it mostly falls into two layers, one very heavy longer length and another that sits on top a couple of inches higher like a shelf. This shelf is the result of the cutting angles that are completely inappropriate for my hair texture. You would expect a master stylist to know that. Honestly, he wasn't good at communication or listening to the customer's needs and probably gives everyone who sits in his chair the same cut, regardless of what they want. Trust me, I've seen that happen more times than I would like. When I arrived at his station it went like this MS: so how has your day been? Me: pretty good. MS: what are we doing today? (Messing with hair trying to determine where length should be). How long since it was last cut? Me: I want butterfly layers and length just an inch or so below my shoulders...no a little longer (in response to him holding hair above my shoulders). It's been about a year since my last haircut because it was a bad cut. MS: so we are cutting off the length and adding layers. (Takes scissors and cuts off 6-8" of my hair). It will be easier to wash with the excess length gone. Me: I want lots of layers all over with wispy ends like in these pictures so it has more volume and lots of movement. MS: ok, let's get it washed. That engagement was about 2 minutes. Haircut was about 15 minutes. He blew my hair dry but completely straight because "it would help him better see if everything is even". Shouldn't a master stylist have more experience and be able to tell if sides are even and shape is before drying it? Anyway total appointment length was 25 minutes. The master stylist was at least 50 yrs old so I was really expecting so much more from an experienced stylist. I have not contacted the salon because I don't know what they can do. If he represents the experience of their master stylists, then I have no expectation that someone else would be better. I went there a few times in 2021 but that stylist no longer works there. In 2032 I went to a friend's sister who said she could give me the cut I wanted but it was basically the same thing I got last week. I can tell when they are cutting it that it's going to have a shelf and hang straight because they are standing behind me and cut from back to front. The multilayered cut really begins in front to set the front sections and everything is cut to the back using the front sections as a guide. I know this because I have had that cut numerous times over the years. As well, watch any one of the hundreds of TikTok or YouTube videos about the butterfly cut or butterfly layers. The cut I asked for has been a big thing for at least the past year and a half so it's not like I asked for something no one ever heard of. I don't know what is going on a Burt Grant but I wouldn't consider going back until they hire new stylists and ensure that their master stylists are better trained. read more

Terrible customer service. I took my daughter for a haircut. She has 3c curly thick hair. Asked for someone who had experience with that hair. Autumn was fantastic so if I could just rate her I would give her 5 stars for her honesty and dealing with a scheduling issue. I was told we would be called back for a free hair cut with the manager who knew how to cut curly hair. I never got a call, I had to call three times! They scheduler called me to schedule the appointment and I never heard from the manager. Extremely terrible customer service, and it's sad they last 3 clients. I've been going to Burt Grant Salon for about 2 years, for hair services only. I've not tried any of their massage, makeup or nail services, so I cannot vouch for those. I can say the salon is quaint and always smells amazing. The staff is very professional and helpful. I don't get the gossipy vibe from this place that I've gotten other places (like Sheltons). I have only ever been to one stylist there, Tiffany, and she does a great job. My only complaint would be that she doesn't take risks and her style is just a little too conservative for my taste. If all I wanted was a simple haircut, I wouldn't hesitate to go there, but if I wanted a bold hair color or style, I'd go elsewhere. Also worth noting: I have found other Aveda salons in the area that are a little more reasonably priced. read more

My mom recommended this salon to me after her first visit, and now we are both regular patrons. Here is my RAVE-- This place is so wonderful. It's a beautiful house off Abram converted into a salon. It's very home-style but simultaneously updated and chic (with a few unique retro touches). The yard is covered in trees and green grass, and a little mother-in-law quarters sits behind and acts as a second space. So relaxing. I always get my hair cut by Lauren and she does an amazing job, I would highly recommend her! I don't color my hair, but I would trust her to do it if I ever chose to. Always, always get my eyebrows done by Theresa. She never takes eyebrow from the top, which I appreciate - a lot. Thicker brows are my game, and she always takes care of them perfectly. (She also accepts walk-ins.) Also, get a cup of complementary coffee. It's lightly cinnamon flavored and wonderful for early morning or late afternoon! read more

I've been going to this salon for a few years now and have migrated from my hair being done to the spa services. I currently use them for massage services as well as manicure and pedicure services. They are, by far, my favorite place for these things. Verlene does manicures and pedicures. She has the most fantastic method for pedicures though! You get to lay back in a chair in a private room under a blanket and eye mask while she works your toes. It's heavenly! The manicures are pretty good too! Tom's massages are out of this world! I swear he has magic fingers and I wish I could go see him more often. I've had countless massages in many different spas in many different states, but nothing compares to Tom! The only thing I would change is the fact that they only use Aveda products, which are fine, but I don't think they're the best. But it's an Aveda salon/spa so they don't really have a choice. I love this place. I used to go get a $12 haircut maybe twice a year because i didnt trust the person or i had terrible service. I have gone to this salon 3 since Feburary. It is a bit expensive but i think it is worth is since I trust Lauren. Lauren is amazing. She is very nice and funny. She listens to what I want and makes sure i am completely happy with my haircut. I have only ever had Lauren cut and color my hair, so i am not sure how well the other employees cut hair. But everyone always seems to be happy. This is where I ended up. First, you can make an appointment on-line, which is a plus for me, since I don't like to talk to people if I can help it. An appointment was made for the following week with Ashley. She was great. Understood exactly what I was asking for. She was friendly. She did talk more than I preferred, but that would probably be great for most people. She recommended other services the salon offers without being pushy. I love this place! I have been going to BGS for 3 years and never had any problems. I usually get a cut, highlights or full color, massage, and facial. I recently went in for my bridal updo and makeup. I had so many complementsand loved it. All I did was give Burt a picture of what I was going for and he did his thing. Terrisa did my makeup which looked great. Tonya does my massages which are always perfect. When I go in with sore muscles the immediately loosen up. For facials I see Katie. She always has such a good attitude and does a great job. My face feels so refreshed. I really can't say enough good things for this place. read more

If you need color correction, you need to make an appointment with Jules. She's more than knowledgeable and conscientious--she has a natural talent for color. She has the kind of eye for color that cannot be learnt/taught. One simply has it or doesn't. She has it. When I first saw Jules in late 2012, my hair was colored jet black and in sad shape from being touched-up every two weeks. My natural hair color is a dark blonde and over the last few years has begun to turn snow white in places. I told her that I wanted to begin the process of letting my hair go white--gracefully--and wanted a maintenance routine that would allow me to go six to eight weeks between salon visits. My goal was to begin letting nature take its course but in a way that did not look as if I had simply neglected my appearance. I still want it to look polished. So, she set to work. It took two days and a total of sixteen hours, but she did it. (Yes, sixteen hours. I counted.) What exactly she did, I don't know. I am just gonna call it "magic" and leave it at that. The result was nothing short of amazing. Not only did she lift my hair more than I had thought possible and with minimal damage, she matched my natural color perfectly. And she made that match from just an inch-wide band of new growth. I didn't realize how close the match was until, six weeks later, I noticed that aside from the strands of white, I could not tell what was virgin hair and what had been colored. And the white looked as if it had been put in intentionally, like platinum highlights. Now we are in maintenance mode. I go in about once every 6-8 weeks (though I could probably go longer) for touch-ups and every time I am astonished by how marvelous the color looks and how well it holds up between appointments. And, surprisingly, even with all of the white, I look younger and feel more confident about my appearance. Though the most critical part of the salon experience for me is how I look when I leave, the atmosphere is also important. The Burt Grant Salon is relaxed and without an ounce of pretense. The decor is charming rather than slick and fancy (I detest slick and fancy). The spaces are clean and the stations do not feel cramped. But what really makes the salon enjoyable is the staff. Especially the women at the front desk. They're genuinely friendly and seem to enjoy their work and interacting with the guests. read more

But if you don't get the right person (e.g. Burt himself), I wouldn't go through the trouble you'll probably experience with the horrible front-desk girls. Just as 'cat n' described. Got an appointment right away, she worked with my time and made sure I was taking care of, they did not mind I brought my baby for the last hour or so ( I left the salon to go get my baby with a shower cap on lol .... i didn't care I just wanted to be able to do my hair right and she did an awesome job ) Sarah and the staff did not mind my baby screaming a little bit and Jules played with him while I was getting my hair washed..... I got to meet Burt he was sooooo nice and took the time to greet me for coming to the salon...at the end she offered that i could come back if I need it more highlights and i did made arrangements to be back on Friday to get more highlights ..... I went in for a last minute appointment with Nathan today for a haircut . It was my first time coming to this salon, but decided to give it a shot after seeing their reviews on yelp. I'll start with describing the salon itself. It's inside a big "old style" house. Beautiful on the inside, just as much as the outside. Everything is well organized and the style of the salon is very nice and fresh. As soon as I walked in I was greeted, and the stylists all seemed very friendly. I got a cup of their coffee, and let me tell you, the hints of cinnamon made it the best cup of coffee ever! Nathan took the time to really get an idea of what I wanted. He even showed me where my hair would be as far as length, once it was cut. I asked for him to trim my longest layer( I have really long thick hair) and to redo my other layers, to get rid of all the dead ends. I came in with my hair looking unhealthy and fried. My ends looked so bad I didn't want to wear my hair down anymore. I'm glad I found this gem on yelp and that Nathan fixed my hair. It is full of life, and feels super soft and light. I am glad he listened to my concerns, and that he took the time to make sure he gave me exactly what I wanted . He layered my hair in such a gorgeous way . Exactly like the picture of inspiration that I showed him. Even though he layered my hair, he made sure to not chop it too much to where it looked like a bad 80s cut. I will definitely be coming back to see him . Great stylist, I highly recommend him!! I was lured in via their Facebook page to come in and model. I was expecting to be part of a class or a new treatment. What happens is that you get a free service and in exchange they want you to write up a rave review. It was not a nice feeling to have that pressure sprung on me. If there's anything I'm uncomfortable with it's hidden agendas. If they need to bribe people for reviews, something is wrong, unfortunately I found out how wrong. Get your staff in line Burt! I had written up a great review but you can all see how things proceeded... My opinions on the esthetician are sincere and unchanged. I am most disturbed that I have to deal with such a gruesome person such as the one that wrote the response full of lies to go upstairs and see the magnificent esthetician. This is not a pleasant thing to do. I have outright been called a liar in their response. I'm sorry social media specialist but that is not going to save your hide. Everything that I complained about is 100% true. I had my husband call in for me, you threatened him with billing me and taking away my Pure Privilege Points. Maybe you shouldn't have done that. That is in fact why I called corporate who called you! They told me a funny thing. That the Pure Privilege program that you had sold me was non existent. So that's pretty nasty too. You took my money once in the past for nothing in return. Maybe you found a way to take the points that you threatened to take after all? And you shouldn't lie and omit to annotate that I called in sick. You have now sunk to a new low and used gas lighting tactics to cover up your very ugly ways. You certainly are bad for business. Funny thing that you repeat that you're sorry for how I I "feel" more gaslighting...you should be sorry for everything you did. I really need to speak to Burt. I called and asked to speak to him and I was told I can't because he lives out of state. And of course I didn't come back to inquire about employment, why would I?
