As many things do, we found out about this discount grocery from chatting with a server at a local…read morerestaurant. She hadn't been herself, but she told us tales of great bargains other customers told her about. Those other customers weren't wrong. As with all discount grocery stores, the items inside vary widely from week to week. The thing to note about Tin Can Pam's is that there is usually a good amount of gluten free and low carb items at radical discounts, which is terrific for people with dietary restrictions who are trying to navigate our current crazy prices. The frozen section can be tempting, but I'd encourage you to know your prices before you head in. Some of the frozen veggies were just average price, and, in fact, I could get a larger quantity for cheaper at Publix. That doesn't mean the quality isn't terrific. It is. Just be aware of all the prices if you're cost cutting. Also, there are really great sales on meat in the frozen section that are clearly restaurant overstock. If you've got a freezer, you could fill it up nicely. There were porterhouse and top sirloin steaks for $7.99 each while we were there, and from their Facebook, steaks make a regular appearance. Something to think about if you have some freezer space to fill. The aisles are very tiny, and the building is older. Be prepared to be patient as you navigate through the store with a cart, as there's a lot of negotiation of space with other carts and customers. Worth it for the bargains, but if you're frustrated easily, maybe try getting there early to avoid a crowd.

Jerry's Drive-Thru spot satisfies my nostalgic urge and brings back memories of a drive-thru spot…read morefrom my hometown in Miami, FL. Unfortunately, Jerry's is not a spot that I see myself visiting again. I give Jerry's one star for the convenience of being able to go to a store and purchase without having to get out of the car. I also give it a star for being locally owned. I deducted stars because the convenience you get by going through a drive-thru amid a pandemic is derailed by the fact that no one wears a mask or seems to follow any safety protocols. The man who took my order didn't wear a mask even though he comes up to you to take your order or get your payment. There were also at least five family members who came walking up and past my car to get into the shop while we waited. One of those members then eventually was the one to give us our order without a mask. A note about the pizza from the $4 pizza special I'd like to mention is that it is similar to the small frozen pizzas that you get at the dollar store. To be fair that person who took the order made a point of pointing out that the pizza was small and from the freezer, but for the sake of patronizing a local business and being open-minded, I tried it anyway. The selection seems to vary with many things from chips and soda to laundry soap or WD40. The staff was also friendly.

But as they are pretty small, they are not a full supermarket, so do not expect to be able to do all your shopping here. There's almost no fresh produce. This is a place to get dry or canned goods. I did find a jar of grapefruit honey for only $3.99, and there were a bunch of Asian candies that caught my daughter's eye. The store is very clean, and staff (owner) friendly.

Publix How can you…read morenot enjoy a grocery store that lets you grab a beer and stroll the aisles while you shop? Publix really sets itself apart with that alone--but the experience goes well beyond it. They offer an impressive variety of freshly prepared foods, and their in-store dining area makes it easy to order something on the spot and enjoy it right there. From pizza and sandwiches to sushi, hot dishes, salads, fried items, and a large self-serve food bar, there's pretty much something for everyone. They even have a great smoothie bar and a cappuccino bar, which is a nice touch. On my last visit, I picked up several sushi items to take home for lunch, and everything was excellent--fresh, flavorful, and far better than what you'd expect from a typical grocery store. They also offer solid poke bowls, soups, and plenty of other choices if you're looking for a quick but satisfying meal. All in all, it's a great place to shop and an easy spot to grab a bite while you're at it.
