As many things do, we found out about this discount grocery from chatting with a server at a local restaurant. She hadn't been herself, but she told us tales of great bargains other customers told her about. Those other customers weren't wrong. As with all discount grocery stores, the items inside vary widely from week to week. The thing to note about Tin Can Pam's is that there is usually a good amount of gluten free and low carb items at radical discounts, which is terrific for people with dietary restrictions who are trying to navigate our current crazy prices. The frozen section can be tempting, but I'd encourage you to know your prices before you head in. Some of the frozen veggies were just average price, and, in fact, I could get a larger quantity for cheaper at Publix. That doesn't mean the quality isn't terrific. It is. Just be aware of all the prices if you're cost cutting. Also, there are really great sales on meat in the frozen section that are clearly restaurant overstock. If you've got a freezer, you could fill it up nicely. There were porterhouse and top sirloin steaks for $7.99 each while we were there, and from their Facebook, steaks make a regular appearance. Something to think about if you have some freezer space to fill. The aisles are very tiny, and the building is older. Be prepared to be patient as you navigate through the store with a cart, as there's a lot of negotiation of space with other carts and customers. Worth it for the bargains, but if you're frustrated easily, maybe try getting there early to avoid a crowd. read more

Excellent discount grocery store in Dade City. Clean establishment, tidy displays and a good selection! I even found plant based hamburger meat in their large freezer section for $2! My friend got a 12 pack of diet cherry pepsi for a steal. Employees were very friendly and helpful. I picked up Margaritaville brand hamburger empanadas for 1 buck, lightly past store expiration but perfectly fine still. They even had a fridge section w boarshead meat and cheese for a buck or two cheaper than retail. Definitely worth a stop in if you need to stock up on snacks and dry goods and see what else you can find. read more

Today was my first day at this place and I was very excited to find such an affordable, friendly and disorganized local market store lol, right in the middle of downtown Dade City. I spent a total of $45 on toiletries, some snacks and alligator meat $11 a pound!!!!! compare to other known stores $75.. Here is the reason why 4 and not 5 Most of the items in the store have expiration dates between 1 - 8 months from today's date, but they are still in good condition. They have freezers at the back of the store with many selections of meat at very affordable prices, BUT some do not seem so safe (that's my personal opinion), but if that is the only option, I'm glad you can find it there . Overall, a good place to check every week as new merchandise arrives every day! read more

This is an excellent discount grocery store and most of the staff is very friendly. However....we have run across one employee who is very disrespectful. My husband served in the Army and was wounded in service. Tin Can Pam's offers a military discount to veterans which is nice since we are retired. All the employees willing give the discount when you remind them and they do not ask for his dd214 but I have it loaded on my phone just in case someone wants to see it. This woman insists on proof every time we go in. This is no problem except when I show her the form on my phone she says she doesn't know what I am showing her so she says it is not proof. Her excuse is that she is not military so she wouldn't know what a dd214 is. Everywhere you go a dd214 is accepted as proof of service. If you don't know what you are asking for then why are you asking for it? When I asked for the manager yesterday, she grudgingly gave us the 10% discount. She did not offer "Thank you for your service" either but instead glared at my husband and slammed our groceries into a bag. I do not want to quit this store but I don't want to have to deal with this angry person. My husband served this country and deserves to be treated with respect. Betty F. read more
