Sound in theatre was horrible. Bought a drink with double shot for almost $30, no liquor at all. So overpriced!! Get a sealed beer instead

Such a cool concept, comedy at a venue near you!…read more Laughterhours Comedy puts on El Paso's largest comedy competition too and overall this years was a huge hit (so much so that I don't think they were actually prepared for how much interest there would be). Next year I expect that they'll use larger venues for the shows because two of the venues were at capacity (possibly over capacity...but you didn't hear that here). But when they're not putting on El Paso's Funniest Comedy Competition, they have weekly shows and hook-up with a few other comedy groups in the area to put on open-mics, writing shops, and more shows. There are more aspiring comedians in EP and the surrounding area than one would suspect. Check out their Facebook to stay up to date on shows and definitely catch one. Sure you're gonna see some newbies up on the stage that are trying to figure out what works and what doesn't, but there will also be seasoned vets that will have you laughing your ass off. My two fave comedians in this group are actually the faces of Laughterhours, Gibbs (the owner) and Adam. Prior to working with Laughterhours, Adam actually won EPFCC so that's saying something. And Gibbs also known as the Comagician does a show that's a cross between a magic show and a comedy show. Somehow it works when he does it...although I will say, he's a better comedian than a magician. I've caught Laughterhour shows at places like The Network, Leo's, Shamrocks, and even the Comic Strip. And tickets are usually cheap (or free if it's an open mic)! Look 'em up, it's bond to be a great night!

We can do trivia without an unfunny comedian. All this guy did was put homemade memes up and do historical trivia. He started off with cracking jokes on the military...at a military event. We've got no problem laughing at ourselves but cracking jokes that military can't spell and are stupid when the majority of the room has at least masters degrees? Making jokes that our "butts clenched up" when he mentioned that we were prepping for deployments? Half the audience walked out. Apparently this guy forgot the first rule of public speaking is knowing your audience. He was a broken record marketing his comedy club. I wouldn't go if he paid me to. Watching paint dry might be more entertaining.

From Broadway to the Symphony. you can find an opportunity to discover this theater firsthand. I really enjoy seeing the marquee lit up and welcoming you inside. Acoustics and sounds is great and I really like how they're securing more and more opportunities for El Pasoans to enjoy. An absolute must if you ever have the chance.

It's a little tricky going uphill in the structure. But once you get to the floor where you want to park, there is plenty of parking space without feeling crammed ! The Plaza Theater itself is an old building. But it has really interesting architecture, exterior design and interior design that make it very nostalgic ! The ceiling is very celestial , with a heavenly aura :) ! It was my first time seeing a show there :D ! I watched "Mean Girls" the musical on Sat (4/6) for the matinee showing and absolutely it :D ! It really brought back wonderful memories of the original 2004 movie starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams :) ! The Broadway cast was absolutely spectacular :D ! I purchased an orchestra seat for myself since I went solo and got to meet and chat with a super nice family sitting next to me who have season tickets to the Plaza :) ! I didn't really try any of the speciality drinks or snacks. But a lot of people were in line for these! I may try these on a future outing to the Plaza because they have some exciting shows and concerts coming up later this year :D ! Thank you for such a fantabulous first time at the Plaza Theater, El Paso Live :D !

This is an absolute gem in the heart of El Paso…read more I have been here for many musicals and never grow tired of seeing its beautiful infrastructure and ornate decor that brings out so much class. To date, I have seen Phantom of the Opera, Waitress, and Hairspray. I actually also missed out on an opportunity to see the hilarious Jo Koy who did his stint here as well but heard nothing but good things! I'm thrilled that El Paso can have these Off Broadway shows so that everyone can experience the beauty of theater art and see how much talent a group of people can put a show together and wow a crowd of all ages. A lot of people don't seem to realize just how crowded a theater can get and I've literally seen people leave because of that reason. It's unfortunate because it often happens when the show has already started and people on stage very much see every movement of the audience. Although it puts a slight hamper on the theater experience for myself, the shows are beyond magical and captivating to forget all about that inconvenience thankfully. I also have never bought season tickets for anything in my life but in order to get the optimal seats I wanted AND make sure it can be for Hamilton (only the best musical to date), I had to get season tickets. For Orchestra row S, I was very happy to pay $1000 for 6 shows. Thank you La Plaza Theater for bringing more life to El Paso!

From classic rock, to Broadway shows- and even the Dave Koz Christmas Jazz spectacular I saw tonight- the sound was incredible. Every seat in the house is a good seat! You can't go wrong- El Paso, get out during the week and see a show or concert. They have a "basics" bar- they can make basic cocktails, and they have wine. They beverages are served in these very cool souvenir cups with a snap lid to prevent spills as you make your way back to your seat- and the bartenders can make a gooood drink! I take Uber or Lyft when I come so I don't have to deal with traffic and parking. There are two major restaurants right in the vicinity for pre show dinner or post show drinks and dessert. Folks take advantage- this venue would be $$$$ in NY!

I came here with a date to watch an encore presentation of "Footloose" in November…read more Since there are a lot of things that go into a dinner theatre production, I'll break it down into sections. I'll start from the bad to the good. Food: 2/5 stars - I must say, this was the most disappointing part of the night. The food was mediocre at best and the best part of the food was the wine that we bought. Sound engineering: 2/5 - Also a big disappointment, I believe each member of the cast was mic'ed up and the sound mixer/engineer should know the lines by this point in the production. Sadly, this was not the case as several lines were inaudible, music was poorly balanced, and the overall sound was pretty bad. Light Engineering: 4/5 - Nothing big here, no huge gaffes or mistakes. Cast/acting: 4/5 - I had never actually seen the original (or remake) of the Hollywood version of "Footloose" before this performance so I came in with basically no expectations. The cast was full of energy and were obviously talented. Whoever casted the preacher was on point. No huge gaffes or mistakes and the pace of the scenes were executed pretty well. The comedy timing was pretty good as well. I do have to break this down further though. Singing: 3/5 - While he did try his best, the main actor who played Ren was not a very good singer. He shined most when he had dancing parts, which is understandable to cast a male lead in "Footloose" based on their dancing. Every other part did fairly well in giving their vocal performances but since the male lead is so pivotal to the performance, I have to dock some points here. Dancing: 5/5 - This is where most of the performers, and overall performance shined. Every person knew where to be at the right time and the overall visual aesthetic was very well executed. As I mentioned before, the male lead who played Ren was a really awesome dancer and he shined in his solo moments. Overal: 3/5 - A mixed bag from really bad to really good. I did enjoy the overall show though but I was expecting a bit more, especially since the cost was a bit pricey.

Alfresco! Fridays is one of my favorite Summer events in El Paso, it is a free outdoor concert…read moreseries that takes place every Friday between May and September. While the focus of it is never really the performers, I can't say I've ever heard of any of the acts I've seen before or the ones that are coming this year, it's more about an opportunity to unwind outdoors with your friends and some cold beverages (which are also your friend). But the music does matter, and to El Paso Live's credit, they bring a different type of music style every Friday, giving good variety to the series, so, for example, if you don't like Tejano (and why would you?), you can still check out the event on a Friday when a Tex-Mex band will be performing, and once you realize that Tejano and Tex-Mex are exactly the same, you can look at the schedule and plan to come a Friday when a Rock or a Salsa band will be playing. Avoiding Tejano music is a very important thing to me, I work hard at it, and so should you, no ear deserves to be tortured in such a way. But back to the point, they bring different kinds of music. They also have beverage tents where you can buy a cold beverage to enjoy the afternoon. The concerts used to take place next to the Plaza Theater, but that's not information you needed to know, because this year they moved it to the Plaza area at the Convention Center. There's plenty of seating, but I recommend getting there about 45mins-1hr early if you want to secure a table.
