This morning I call and state I'm staying in Kerrville for the weekend and hoping to find a couples massage for my wife and I. At first I was happy to find a massage therapist spa that actually answered their phone as none in the neighboring city of Kerrville did (an. 23 miles away) but with the amount of pain I was in, I needed to find a therapist to work on my sciatic as I had an injury during the 5 years I was in the Army as a Paratrooper. We waited for our moment to leave this city and drive 30 minutes for a relaxing massage, filled out paperwork upon arrival and personally I listed my shoulders and sciatic as areas that I needed worked on. As we filled it out the receptionist / lady at the front let us know, that we would be face down and not asked to turn over and my bride and I were ok with that. I selected firm as my pressure and my wife chose medium - firm. In the room once we went to the couples massage room, each therapist reviewed what we wrote with us and confirmed it. My therapist asked, are you sure you are ok with firm, my deep tissue massages really are firm so let me know if I back off a little. I replied and said, that's great, I get a lot of massages and haven't ever had any issues yet. I'll conclude with this, both my wife and I were so infuriated that we invested the time, effort, energy and cash to have less than an amateur put forth by either of the "therapist". Here is why... 1. Our written and spoken wishes were ignored as if never seen or heard as both therapist seemingly would have had to try to not apply pressure, it was the softest and weakest experience I've had, even from 1st week trainees at a massage school / trade college. 2. We both we asked to turn over (I am not a fan of mis-set expectations because it's a nice way of saying "lied to". 3. Neither of us had our sciatic areas touched, we even checked each other to see if there was oil residue in the area we physically wrote, spoke and even showed each "therapist". If your considering coming here...save your patience, your money and temper. Worst customer experience of my life and that says a lot. Stay away. We left in more pain than we arrived and hot tempered about being lied to. read more

Husband came out to spend a couple days in Fredericksburg for our anniversary. I booked a couples massage and facial here. Dawn was very nice. She responded to my inquiry within a few days and the booking was easy. We came in for the appointment and honestly, it doesn't have the space "feel", however, I can appreciate the small town "feel" so I overlooked this part. The massage was nice. My husband had Johanna and I had Sarah. I thought Sarah did a great massage. I was very relaxed and the pressure was fine for me. My husband said he did feel relaxed...so relaxed that he fell asleep. I have 2 negatives that may be more for informational purposes. First is, in the room, the beds are comfy, but there is a lot of stuff kind of stacked up in there. Not sure if this is all used daily but it was a little bit cluttered looking. I'm just a minimal type of person so I noticed right away. Second is the facials. I have had facials before and I did expect something different. My husband has never had a facial before and he also expected something different. He did say he felt refreshed, but I think he didn't want me to feel bad that I expected more from the facial part. It was basically a lot of lotions and serums being applied and wiped. Also quite a few hot towels in between. This part is ok, but they smelled alittle strange. Toward the end, there were cold wet towels (paper towels????) put on my face and I was not expecting that. It seems as if the staffed is cuddled by the owner, who spends her day making up and assuming people's Job title, what they wanted in a massage and defending her staff, all while ripping into those who left a negative review. Why do they leave them? BECAUSE it's a bad experience. The owner replied saying we were mad, alleged my husband was a pastor who just wanted his butt grabbed (because his sciatica was hurting and that was the area of pain 'Dawn' said she would work on. Both of the ladies who worked on us in our couples massage, gave the worst massages, hand cold hands, and no strength to their "deep or medium pressure". The owner alleged we we were bad because of difficulty parking and traffic? It's FREDICKSBURG, really? We live and daily drive in Houston, you must not know what real traffic is. It isn't 5 cars on a main town street and small hard to read parking signs. But that's ok, we weren't mad, we just parked right in the owners spot! In the negative (1 star comments) replies, she typically claims to "trust" the reviews of others, we do too and wish we had looked at all of them or we would have saved the time effort and energy of driving over from Kerrville. read more

There are no words for me to properly describe this place. Upon first glance your going "oh gosh, what am I getting myself into". The house is so cute and its a historical landmark, but a spa? You'd never guess. Anyoils, when you walk in it's the quietest, best smelling place in the whole wide world. You immediately start to relax. While you wait for your appointment you sit in these lovely lazy boy recliners and just marvel in the quietness. My grillerz and I were whispering and I felt we were being to loud. It's heavenly. When it was time for us to go back for our massages, they put us together in the same room. We totally weren't expecting that, but we're glad they did. We laid on the table in a totally zen room and when the ladies came in, they literally floated by. They were so very sweet, asked us where our problem areas were and then literally told us to "fly away". This was good, because neither myself or my friend like to talk during massages. I literally didn't speak from start to finish. It was absolutely fantastic. This was by far one the absolute BEST massages I have EVER had in my LIFE (are we understanding the CAPS yet?). She used the perfect amount of pressure and worked out all my seriously tense areas. Sometimes after a massage, I'm sore for days. However, I was only slightly sore and had much more mobility the next day....and the kinks were gone. Hooray! They also have lots of other spa options, mani/pedis, facials, packages, the whole deal. I was pretty disappointed with my massage. It may have been my therapist but overall I left feeling like I spent money for nothing. All reviews talk about decor which is true - it doesn't feel like a spa but I can look past that. I went in for a prenatal massage and was told I had to lay on my side. Most places offer a pregnancy pillow you may lay on which is way more comfortable. However, this isn't the main issue. I asked Sarah, my therapist, for medium to firm massage and she barely touched me I felt like. I asked her if she could go deeper on my areas of tension (I understand they are not mind readers but hate having to instruct when I put it on the paper) but even after asking, she didn't do it. I left feeling the same tension and knots as before. I've had other prenatal massages and this was the worst. Maybe they were scared to massage me because I'm pregnant? Upon entering, we were met with a warm greeting and overview of what to expect, asked to complete a quick questionnaire, and then our masseuses reviewed our answers and expectations. We both went with a firm Swedish massage and were led to the back room where we were given some privacy to get comfy on our tables. I found the location to be quiet for being so close to the shopping area on Main, complimented by relaxing music and a pleasant lavender scent. Shortly after we got undressed and situated, we heard a gentle knock, and the ladies came in to get started. My masseuse seemed very knowledgeable, and for being small in size, was strong and able to provide a firm massage mostly using hands and forearms. She found the sore spots and worked them out to the point the shoulder I had rotator cuff surgery on was much more limber (even 3 days later!) than it's been in years. I can't remember her name but I have a feeling they're all good. Boyfriend also had a young lady and said she did a great job too. Like a few other reviews have stated, if looking for a fuss and frills day spa, this may not be what you're expecting, but if you're like me and like a quiet, eyes closed, comfy surroundings with a knowledgeable massage therapist, you'll be happy you came here. For two years running, my brother and his wife have allowed me to crash their anniversary celebration - what can I say, I tend to bring the party? So, as a token of appreciation to them, I thought a couples massage (and one for myself too, of course) would do the trick. Walking into Above and Beyond, it appears you've entered someone's antique-filled home. Right there in the living room sits the front desk. It's just so "Fredericksburg". They greeted us warmly, had us fill out the small amount of paperwork in side-by-side lazy boy recliners, then we were on our way to relaxation station within 15 minutes. The massage itself: I found myself wishing it wouldn't end. So that's a good sign, right? They're as gentle or firm as you wish and it's absolutely serene in the room, complete with smell-goods and waterfall music. A major plus to me was that each room has a private restroom, too! It was my brother's first massage and he said he could've gone for a whole hour more. He's considering making it a regular thing - something I thought I'd never hear him say! My tip: Don't walk here. My boyfriend and I went in for a couples massage. Upon walking in, I'm going to be honest, the decor didn't have me thinking I was about the have the best massage of my life. We were greeted by Dawn who had us sit in two recliners in the waiting area and got us started on filling out the information sheet. We had some questions and she had an answer for all of it. While we filled out the sheets she had told us that the clients before us had been a little late and our appointment would be just a little behind due to that, she was very apologetic about it and it was not a big deal at all to us. Then it was time for the massage. My therapist was Trae and she gave me the best massage I've ever received. I had written that I wanted to focus on my shoulder- where I hold most of my tension and on my right ankle- an old injury keeps my ankle from ever feeling really great and after all the walking we'd been doing I needed some relief. Trae worked MAGIC. I could literally feel the built up balls of tension all over my body explode as she massaged them out. I had said I wanted medium to medium firm pressure and that is exactly what I got, there wasn't a single time I had to ask for more or less pressure. My boyfriends therapist was Sarah and upon the massage being done he literally said "I think she just exercised my demons" lol. Really though she did a great job and he agreed - the best massage he's ever had. The reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars was simply based on my first comment, the space itself isn't anything amazing and may make some feel maybe that isn't the spa for them. I would not recommend this spa for facials. My mom was visiting Austin and we wanted to get out of the city for a spa experience so I found Above and Beyond Day Spa. They had a special for the their "anti-aging" green tea facial which looked perfect. I got one for me and my mom. The facials started and nothing was ever said about a) what type of product was going on my face or b) asking me about my skin type or sensitivities. It was very weird, complete silence the whole time. No talk about what my skin needed. I have had many many good facials in my life and this was nothing more than rubbing and getting my face washed. There was no exfoliation, steam, extractions, or masks. It felt like a waste of money and time which I feel bad because my mom treated me to the facial, $86 a piece. That would normally be a very decent price for a facial but not in this case. On top of that, whatever product was used made my face completely break out the next day. My mom was very disappointed as well. Would not return for a facial. Perhaps we should have chosen massages. read more

I was in town with my mother for her birthday. I really wanted to get a massage, but as my mother had a significant back injury the year before, we settled for facials. After a quick google/ yelp search, I called this spa. Easy booking for the next day. Day of our massages, we were called to confirm. We were asked (luckily) if anyone had a hard time with stairs. Once I informed them that my mother didn't do well with them but can manage them if necessary, we were told we would have a room on the first floor. In fact, they even offered us a room together (bonus for us). Later that day, we called to see if we could come a bit earlier. No problem. Upon arriving, we were greater warmly and given the spa/legal paper work. The therapist spent time making sure to ask my mother about her back injury in order to ensure her comfort. Without a doubt, this was one of the best facials I have ever had. And I've had $400 facials. I've been to Canyon Ranch. I know my spas. It was only 30 minutes but it was fabulous. Considering the price, ease of booking, and quality I must give this place 5 stars. Next time we are in Fredericksburg, we will return. read more

We were here for a bachelorette party. They couldn't accommodate all 5 of us at one time, so we had a plan to do a group of 3 and then a group of 2. This was all scheduled one month before our weekend. Then, the day before we left, the owner called and said there had been some mix up so she needed two of the people in the party to find another spa. How unprofessional is that? We had to split our party up. My massage felt like I was getting rubbed but not actual pressure points were worked on. My entire massage was at the wrong pressure even though I asked for medium to firm and even spoke up during my massage that I needed more pressure. When it came to my feet, they were literally tapped on. My hands were never even worked on. Don't waste your money or time. Find another spa. read more

I had quite a few issues with this Spa when my boyfriend and I visited for a couple's massage. First and foremost, the "reception" area was really just the owner/manager sitting at a desk when you walk in, and she was listening to voicemails on speaker phone while we were being checked in. We both thought this was pretty unprofessional and awkward. I had originally scheduled my boyfriend to have the female therapist and I have the male therapist, but the manager mixed us up; however, it worked in my boyfriend's favor because the male therapist was great! My therapist, Sarah, was not so great. She was friendly, but kept using very "Light" pressure, even though I requested Medium to Medium Firm -- twice! I've had better caresses from a cat. She didn't hit one pressure point; I was so disappointed. The bathrooms were less than luxurious too. They had the towels and blankets displayed on wire shelves next to the toilet for everyone to see. It just looked tacky. Finally, when we were checked out, the manager gave us Solo plastic cups with water in them to "take with us"...this was a first! I assumed that because we were paying a decent amount of money, the experience would be a lot better for what we got. I won't be going back. read more

Me & best friend we're getting a red wine facial& massage to start our day of shopping in downtown Fredericksburg! Seemed very professional! Got started with our massage ( my poor lady had asthma) was breathing very hard through her mask, kind of made me nervous she was sick, but then she had to leave room for 10 min to get her breathing under control ( my friends therapist told me she was having trouble breathing! I offered to get up and go shopping while my friend finished, because it wasn't going good! She came back , to tell me she had done to much ahead of time setting up room and starting that morning! My massage consisted of pressure point pushing very softly! ( her poor thumbs were popping the whole time , I would of had her go firmer but just didn't want to put her through that! ) about every 30 seconds she would stop & go get oil over & over! Not very consistent rubbing ( would do one area not other! )I think she was just trying to get successfullly through the whole appointment! I'd rather have gone shopping and saved my money! The facial itself ( Not sure it was a facial) a lot of patting products on , lots of hot towels, and ice cold towel that startled me! No massaging face! Got through with my friends appointment at same time even though I was left in room for about 10 minutes! Like I said just think she was trying to get through the appointment! Sry for my review but that was a waste of money! I've been to lots of different places and I wish someone would of told me to save my money on these reviews! House was nice, clean! Rooms were clean, professional! My friends said her's was just ok! She had never had a facial like that either! No rubbing in products! Not relaxing! REGRETTABLY, the start of a wonderful girls weekend getaway ended with a huge disappointment after our Sunday morning massages at this spa. To begin with, our appointments were scheduled for 9 a.m. and we were told to arrive 15 minutes before our appointment. We get to the spa on a Sunday morning at 8:50, only to find the place was still closed. At 9 o'clock sharp someone finally opens the place. We sat and waited for 30 minutes before they took us back for massages because the owner "overslept". Furthermore, my sister, cousin, and aunt followed for the next 3 appts at 11am, and were cheated 10 minutes of massage time because the owner claimed they were supposed to be there by 10:45 therefore they had "arrived late". The first group of us weren't even finished with our massages until 10:55am! Nonetheless, the owner was very unprofessional, very quick to push blame on the clients without any hesitation, and voiced absolutely no apologies at the time. However, I must say that young man who did my massage was very good, nothing against him. An unprofessional establishment, I will never go back to. If you MUST try this place out, dont expect much. read more

Housed in a cool 1860's house on Main St., the location is great and the staff was so incredibly friendly. The man at the front described the different types of massages offered and made sure we were getting what we wanted. However, this is not what I expected with 'Day Spa' in the name. That conjures up images of comfy robes, hot tea or mimosas, lounging in a relaxation room or by a pool, availability of a sauna, and similar. There were none of these things, which is fine, if you know this going in. My husband and I got away for a few days before the arrival of our second daughter and really needed some down time, especially with a delightful but spirited two-year-old at home. We booked 2 massage and pedicure packages. My massage was pretty good - pregnancy massages are tough. I enjoyed my hour. However, my husband's massage was god overall but could have improved a bit. For both of us. Since the house has few rooms, there are about 5-6 massage tables in the back room so they can only do couples or group massages. Totally fine by us. We don't usually go for couples massages because they can be distracting. During the massage, they heated a towel in a microwave, resulting in both some zen-breaking beeping and a towel that was simultaneously too hot and not at all hot. It seems like this could be an easy fix. In some extenuating circumstances, I can see using some alternate method of heating a towel but this seemed to be the permanent set-up. Moderately relaxed from the massage, we re-dressed and went back out into the lobby to meet our pedicurist. Just one lady. For both of us. I wish we'd known beforehand. The mani/pedi room is upstairs and has plenty of room for several people at a time. We were still puzzled as to why only one lady had to do both pedicures at once. Maybe, since it was a Monday, they hadn't fully staffed for the day. She did handle the back and forth well and the scrub, moisturizer, and hot towels were wonderful. However, a couple of things were lacking - the massage and the nail trim/shaping. We kept waiting for those to happen but then we arrived at the polish part of my pedicure and that was it. For both of us. My husband's toenails looked the same as when he'd walked in. We certainly would have asked but the process was a little unclear. It sounds odd - pedicures are not that confusing and generally follow a loose structure but we just didn't know what to expect next with the type of pedicure we'd scheduled). That said, my feet were soft, toenails painted beautiful, with vegan nail polish, and the pedicurist was friendly but could tell we preferred to zone out rather than have much conversation. If you're looking for a traditional mani/pedi or massage and aren't after a spa atmosphere, this is a good place to check out. read more

Best I can do is 2 stars... Told to be there 1015 hrs for 1030 appointment. Get there and place is dark and all locked up? Wife's massage therapist got there at around 1015 and went in back entrance. She was pleasant and said good morning. My massage therapist shows up a min or two later. I'm sitting on the porch still waiting for someone to open the front door. He looks at the RV/trailer parked in front of business, looks at me and sarcastically says, "seriously!" I told him not my rig. Then he looks back at me and says "this is for customer parking!" I tell him again that it isn't my rig. First massage therapist then let us in and hunted around for paperwork while apologizing saying receptionist usually has the door open on time and kept looking for paperwork. Receptionist showed up around here and took over signing us up. My massage was just OK. Here's a lesson for ya. Don't start bitching at the person sitting on the porch 1st thing the AM.
