After looking at several retirement communities in East County and in North County, I was extremely…read morehappy to find La Vida Real. It's well organized, clean, professionally staffed, and very reasonably priced. It was easy to make the decision to move my parents in because there is only a small move-in community fee ($1k) that is sometimes waived all together. Pricing is for studios, 1 Bed or 2 Bed units. And it's extremely flexible in that you only have to give 30 days notice to vacate without any further charges. The activities are well organized- a great balance between social events, physical activities, mental challenges. Top picks include smoothie socials, bingo, chair yoga, coffee and doughnuts. My dad is stubborn and picky and he has finally settled in and enjoys being here.

Each time her 3 grown kids and other family members visited Alice, she had such a good time. Alice had health issues with her breathing and required oxygen bottles daily.  The service people at La Vida Real helped make each delivery and set-up of anything she needed for medical reasons as easy as possible.  Any time she had a maintenance issue or question, the service responded very quickly and treated Alice special. As time went on, our mom invited us to enjoy dinner or lunch with her in their dining room.  The waitstaff and food were always the best and they treated us as friends.  We found it very comforting when we noticed the servers treated our mom as if they'd known her for many years and they loved her.  As if she was their own mother. They knew our mom loved their cookies after a meal but she liked to take them back to her apartment. The server would bag up her cookie and slip in an extra one for her. In April of 2026, Alice started having severe difficulties with her breathing and her medication was adjusted.  Her 3 kids took shifts and stayed with her 24/7 and she was closely monitored by medical staff.  Unfortunately, after a valiant struggle to keep going, our beautiful mom passed away in her sleep on April 27, 2026.  She had family at her side.  We are all heartbroken. She was 88 years young. After we notified the front desk and the necessary procedures started, we began the process of ending her tenancy.  We learned there were some stipulations in her contract that called for either a 60 day or a 30 day notice to be made in the event of ending a tenancy.  This stipulation included 30-day notice to end a tenancy due to the death of the tenant. We contacted Business Director Kristin Molina and Executive Director Kim Garcia and explained our situation.  They gave us their condolences and we explained how our mom really loved their complex and how she made so many friends in only 8 months.  After a short period of time, and knowing Alice themselves, they fully understood our grief and the difficulties we would be facing as we prepared for our mom's memorial.  Being that the stipulation was in a signed contract, we prepared ourselves to be required to abide by the 30-day notice and pay another month's rent. A short while after our conversation, we were contacted by Kristin and Kim and after they repeated their condolences for our loss and told us they enjoyed having our mom as their tenant, they explained they were waiving the 30 day notice and our mom's final invoice would show as $0.  Their compassion for our loss gave us a relief we very much needed. We want people to know that the staff at La Vida Real have proved that they care about families and their loved ones and their compassion is real.  They understand our grief and they will do what they can to make the difficult and painful process a little easier. Thank you to all the staff at La Vida Real. Rest in Peace Mom.

While still able to get around with her walker, she needed assistance for many of her daily functions. As we are both in our late 70's, we determined that some in-home weekly assistance would be needed. Relying on Yelp reviews we contacted San Diego Home Caregivers and met with the owner Sterling Miles. It was clear from the start that finding the right caregiver and meeting all of Mom's needs was his top priority. He even gave us information on other options in case his services might not meet our needs. He is genuine in his concern and commitment to providing top level care. We could not have been more impressed when we met Mom's new caregiver Jasmine. Her cheerful, warm personality was a perfect fit, and Mom was immediately comfortable with her. She went out of her way to not only care for Mom but to also help us in any way she could. Unfortunately, by the end of January Mom was at the end stage of her life. Because she was so comfortable with Jasmine, we had her continue to come even though Mom also had Hospice care by that time. As 20 family members came to say their goodbyes over the final two weeks, they were also very impressed with how caring Jasmine was and how much Mom appreciated having her there. We highly recommend Sterling and San Diego Home Caregivers.

Once Mom was able to return home we knew she would need assistance during the day while we were away. Lauren was mentioned during a support group for a rare disease my Mother has. She was very thorough, communicative and listened to what my Mother needed. It took a reasonable amount of time to find the right caregivers that meshed well with Mom. But, that was expected, as new people enter one another's lives it takes time to find the right fit. Lauren's team literally saved her life. Part of Mom's neurodegenerative disease impacts her ability to chew, and swallow. While taking her morning vitamins one day, Mom began choking and the visiting angel with her immediately knew what to do. Had the caregiver not been with Mom that day she wouldn't be us. Unfortunately because the disease continued to progress we eventually had to find a suitable home to provide her with 24 hour assistance. Had Mom's disease not progressed, we would not have stopped working with Lauren and her Visiting Angels team. Lastly, I believe SD Visiting Angels was previously owned and operated by someone else, prior to Lauren taking ownership. I cannot speak to the caliber of the earlier company, however, Lauren is a knowledgeable, genuine and caring person. We are thankful we were able to work together to source caregivers for our loved one.

Very good communication when needed from office and flexible when it comes to scheduling.read more

Time to search for a safe haven, a home where she would ENJOY BEING WITH OTHERS, and a place where ALL OF HER NEEDS would be met. Someplace we could visit and be happy with her. We searched for weeks, until we finally found THE PERFECT PLACE! Boy, my brothers were GREEN with ENVY that I found it! In El Cajon Valley, ROSE'S GREENFIELD MANOR and sister property Julie's Elderly Care are run by this MOTHER DAUGHTER FAMILY TEAM. I discovered that Rose & Julie give personalize loving care for her residents: It's a wonderful home-like atmosphere, with home-cooked meals like Mom used to make! And there's even Entertainment AND Birthday Celebrations. My brothers were impressed with the personal laundry service. Mom really likes the doctor who visits regularly and the additional nursing care which is always available when necessary. In fact, the Doc described the place as the "Diamond of Diamonds" Roses Greenfield Manor is an intimate, cozy home with just six beds and pastoral views. Rose bushes bloom and scent the front garden of this nice home where Mom now lives,. As I told my neighbor, each of the bedrooms is private and most include a private bath. All of the meals are healthy and home cooked by the resident caretakers. The place is spotless! In fact, I joined them for lunch one day. I stepped away from the room for just a minute and they had already cleaned up my glass before I stepped back. What I REALLY LIKE is that I can communicate easily with any of the professionals that work there. They always tell me what is going on with Mom, and I'm glad to hear it. We were lucky to get Mom in when she was ready to leave the hospital. Because of their GREAT REPUTATION, sometimes there is quite a waiting list, so I told my neighbor to go on over for a tour right away. In fact, she arrived just as there was a REALLY FUN BIRTHDAY PARTY going on! SO...we found a safe haven for our Mom, she's one of the smiling ladies at Rose's Greenfield Manor. Check it out!

Aerie Meadows Care Home

The short story: -obscenely overpriced…read more-fraudulent -neglectful The long story: When my grandmother moved into Aerie Meadows, she was ambulatory, (mostly) continent, and in good health, besides having dementia. Over the course of approximately 3 months at Aerie Meadows, my grandmother: -developed pneumonia -got UTIs which led to kidney damage -became immobile -became incontinent -developed blood clots in her legs that were left untreated and spread to her lungs -had to go on oxygen -was rushed to the ER and hospitalized TWICE I get that it's really hard to prevent pneumonia and UTIs in nursing homes. However the rest of these problems were directly caused by Aerie Meadows' neglect. Instead of allowing my grandmother to walk (with a walker) and use the bathroom at will, they kept her bound to a wheelchair and made her urinate and defecate in diapers (which, of course, led to the UTIs). So, within no time, my grandma was immobile and incontinent. And, over time, the immobility led to blood clots in her legs, which eventually spread to her lungs. What's worse, when my grandma became immobile and incontinent AS A DIRECT RESULT OF AERIE MEADOWS NEGLECT, Jan, the owner/operator, had the nerve to try to upcharge us $800 per month for a higher level of care. And, the most absurd and infuriating part: After her second Aerie Meadows-induced hospitalization, my grandma had to go to rehab to regain some mobility. On a Friday, the rehab center announced that my grandma's mobility improved and she could be discharged on the following Tuesday. That day, Jan informed us they would not allow my grandma to return to the nursing home because she was too difficult to care for. (May I remind you that she and her staff were the impetus for my grandma's rapid decline and my grandma has somewhat improved as a result of hospitalization and rehab.) This meant my parents had one weekend to collect my grandma's things from Aerie Meadows and find another nursing home for my grandma to move into. It's also worth mentioning that technically this is considered a breach of contact. Additional notes: -They promise daily activities and exercise for their residents. They do not deliver on this promise. They basically just sit the residents in front of a TV all day. -Their rates are higher than average for the area, but they offer far fewer amenities and obviously far worse care. -Unlike most nursing homes which have 24/7 visiting hours, they have limited visiting hours. -Rather than listening to and acting on advice, Jan is a master of making excuses, deflecting constructive criticism, and finding ways to try to increase costs.
