The owner told us upfront what the cost would be but said he would look at it and let us know...the next day he got back to us and told us the only thing we needed was a $24 part, which he had already replaced. He could have easily just done the transmission job and we would never had known the difference. We had originally taken this to our dealership and they told us there was a 2-3 week wait for the car to even be looked at and it would cost $300 just for them to look at it. I wish this place was a full auto service shop as I would bring all of our cars here for service. If you need transmission work this is the place to go!

My 2009 Subaru Outback Wagon 3.0R suddenly started taking a long time to shift into gear. All of…read morethe warning lights came on, the car went into limp mode, and it threw a P0758 solenoid code. I wanted someone to actually investigate the cause before I made the decision to spend thousands of dollars repairing a 165,000-mile car. The first transmission shop quoted me $5,000-$7,000 to replace the transmission without checking anything. The second transmission shop wouldn't even look at it because of the car's age and mileage. I then brought it to a Subaru dealership, figuring they would be able to give me the answers I needed to decide whether to repair the car or move on. They told me it needed a valve body (approximately $3,500), but warned that I might also need a TCM and possibly a transmission, bringing the potential cost to $13,000! As a last-ditch effort, I brought the car to Pro-Built Transmissions in Holbrook, and I'm so glad I did. The very next day, Dan texted me to explain that they had taken the pan down and checked the transmission oil, wiring, and electrical system. They determined that the TCM was bad and were able to install a replacement within a couple of days. The entire repair cost me less than half of what the other places were quoting me. What impressed me most was that they actually diagnosed the problem instead of immediately telling me I needed a new transmission. Dan, Dave, and the mechanics were professional, thorough, responsive, and honest throughout the process. After dealing with three other places, Pro-Built was exactly what I had been looking for: a shop willing to investigate the problem and find the actual cause before recommending an expensive repair. I can't recommend Dan, Dave, and the entire Pro-Built team highly enough. If you have a transmission problem, especially with an older or higher-mileage vehicle, I would absolutely give them a call before agreeing to replace the transmission.
