It's NOT the KOA anymore! It's Phil's Hideaway now. The older ladies are very unfriendly and rude. The campsites are pretty much on top of each other especially in the monthly spots. The restrooms are pretty clean but the showers get backed up so you're standing in ankle deep water yuck the laundry room takes at least guarantee 2hrs to wash and dry a load. It's also $2 and up to wash and dry each load. It's noisy being right off the inter state but honestly not too bad. We can't wait for another rv park to have an opening for long term. What a little gem! The staff is friendly and the bathrooms are clean!! This park shows its history with the beautiful trees throughout the campground. I can't remember the last time we camped with trees around us. There is traffic noise but it doesn't take long to get used to it and we sleep with a fan on. Nice big pull through sites! We booked an extended stay at this KOA while my husband worked in the area. Big mistake. When we arrived, the park was run by a kind, professional couple who soon disappeared -- and now we see why. The current manager, Diana Postma, is shockingly rude, unprofessional, and unfit to run a campground. All of the issues started simply because we asked about an unexpected $100 rate increase. Rather than explain, she completely lost control -- yelling at my husband and telling us to leave if we didn't like it. From that moment on, she seemed focused on making our stay miserable. She tried to pile on additional fees, including charging for our kids even though we own our RV, pay site rent, and cover our own utilities. The worst part? She had my husband's work truck towed out of pure spite. She knew it was ours -- she even called our neighbor first, and he told her it belonged to us. But instead of calling us, she had it removed anyway, creating unnecessary stress and expense. The condition of the park was no better:    *   The pool was "under repair" for our entire 6-week stay.    *   The laundry facilities were poorly maintained, with broken machines left unfixed.    *   The grounds were littered with trash, the grass was dangerously overgrown, and mosquitoes made being outside unbearable.    *   The office was rarely open, and calls for help were met with indifference or more attitude.    *   A massive tree fell and damaged another guest's RV -- KOA took no responsibility.    *   The WiFi was useless -- barely worked the entire time we were there.    *   They had to change the bathroom codes because someone who wasn't even staying there brought a prostitute into the men's restroom. There were empty sites all around us, and it's clear why. This park is filthy, unsafe, overpriced, and run by someone who has no business working with the public. If you value your sanity and your property, do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else. read more

I am writing this review to express my concerns regarding the recent stay my family and I experienced ONLY, at KOA Abilene Journey. We stayed for one month and eventually decided to move to another campground due to issues with the General Manager and staff and their incompetence. I believe several matters need to be addressed to ensure a better experience for future guests. Firstly, the management team's professionalism was severely lacking. We had an extension cord connected to the power pole to run our deep freezer inside our camper. Without any prior notice, it was disconnected, resulting in the loss of hundreds of dollars' worth of food. While I understand the importance of adhering to campground rules, a well-run property should have given us a 24-hour warning instead of abruptly pulling the plug. Additionally, the guidelines state that KOA employees are not allowed to touch an RV for any reason, yet this rule was blatantly violated and then denied by the staff. The guidelines do not specifically mention that extension cords cannot be used, which adds to the confusion. Furthermore, we were informed that we could not use the KOA Wi-Fi for work or streaming movies due to bandwidth limitations. However, the website states that Wi-Fi service is available, with no specific mention of restrictions on streaming or work-related tasks and unfortunately, we did not find this out until AFTER we arrived. Reliable internet access is crucial for me as I work from home, and I am sure many others do as well, especially since the onset of COVID-19. Lastly, we just heard from other guests that management sent out a notice enforcing a $50 fee for more than one person staying in the RV, so this could potentially increase monthly rent for a family of four or five. We have stayed at many RV resorts and another KOA campground and this by far was the worst place we've encountered. We travel a lot and meet tons of folks and we exchange experiences and thoughts on places we've stayed at and I will never refer family or friends to this KOA location. read more

Not happy about this ridiculous cancellation policy. If you move your reservation from one day to another day then later need to cancel the reservation entirely, you will not be receiving a refund or even a credit for future stays even though you ask to cancel 30 days before your arrival date. I am a member of KOA rewards but I will not be renewing this membership and I do not recommend the Abilene KOA for this reason. Beware! Hmmm.. well after my rant and being told on the phone that I would not be receiving a refund on my deposit, I was credited for 2/3 of the deposit, minus a $20 cancellation fee which is at least somewhat understandable. Nice place, trees/shade, nice picnic benches, charcoal bbqs at each site, cabins look very inviting. Downside: internet down and the pool closed July 5th at 95* which is a result of uneducated staff. Go buy some chlorine. My husband services pools. Some road noise. The lights at the Motel 6 next door are fiercely bright. read more

We've stayed at a lot of KOAs and this park is great! Clean, well managed, great power and water pressure. They have shade trees in most of the park which is rare in this area. Was even able to receive packages with no issues. Office went out of their way to ensure they were open early enough to receive packages, and even went out of there way to bring them us once when we were unable to pick them up before closing. Can't say enough good things about this location. read more

Great stopover for us. Great office staff and a huge gift shop area with reasonable prices. Everything is clean and well kept. Lots of shady spots. The pool is clean and large with a playground behind it. They pick up your trash every morning if you leave it out and provide your own cable box if needed. Cool sculptures and yard art in various places. Just off the highway but it's quiet and set back. Great place to walk with your dog too. This KOA Is above the standard. read more

At the Journey level one of the nicer ones we have been to. The pull through was long enough I did not have to in hook our 45 foot 5th wheel. The spaces were wide enough to easily open our side porch. The noise was a little loud from the freeway or would have given 5 stars but the ease of access was great. The place was clean the staff friendly the park had several full time residents but the place was very quiet even though it is right next to a motel. For the one night we spent it was perfect read more

Management was rude from the beginning starting by phone registration. Now I spent the last week at KOA's , and aside of the obnoxious hostess , she quoted " we have one slot left " put us in a tent site, when numerous full hook places where OPEN, in reality it was completely desolate, basically vacant. Disgusting toilets. And worst direction. Office did not keep to hours. Just a very bad experience of all the KOA's I've EVER TRAVELED FROM EAST TO WEST COAST. read more

Outstanding experience all around. The staff is very helpful, responsive and friendly. It's as if they actually care about their business. The cabin I got was clean and in good repair. The young lady even turned on the AC unit before I got here so it was cool when I went in. I'd stay here again in a heart beat. read more

We recently spent three days at this RV Campground. It is a very packed RV park, catering to full-timers and the overnight crowd. Our space was very near others and the Motel 6 bordering the RV park contributed to noise. This RV park had water, sewer, and electric hookups. There was a small laundry room and the bathrooms were a bit dated, but cleaned. All-in-all the RV campground was pretty standard, it bordered a large highway, the spaces were narrow and gravel. Would I recommend this park? If we were visiting Abilene or passing through. Would we come back? Sure. Informational: We travel in a 36' Class A RV. read more

Owners and staff are amazing! Grounds are tended to seems like around the clock and even on holidays that we've had recently. If any issue occurs you can be sure one call and within minutes it's fixed or someone personally will be at your site. I can not rave enough about this KOA ***** 5 stars is an under statement for the family that is running the park. From the Husband and wife their children who I must say are the most respectful and hard workers to their friendly staff members! Anyone with children, fur babies or just a couple looking to get away enjoy a peaceful get a way to relax and occasionally see beautiful birds chirping near by or the squirrels playing chase I highly recommend staying here! read more

I don't know how much of my complaint has to do with the KOA in Abilene but I did leave very upset from there. A very nice motor home was parked within 12 feet of us. They had a mobile washing service cleaning their rig with a high pressure sprayer. It left spots along the street side of our 5th wheel trailer. We just had ours washed and waxed the day before. The spots appear to be wax or soap spots. I asked the guy that was washing their motor home if he had time to wash ours being he left spots on ours. He said he was too busy couldn't do it. This just doesn't seem right to me. The KOA park was very nice and the folks that manage it were sympathetic. Just keep an eye out for over spray from the rig washers. read more

Update:! I just got off the phone with the owner. The manager and owner both reached out and said they made a mistake. While the KOA policy is 48 hours for cancelling, they have leeway and since my cancellation was 20 minutes from booking they refunded my money. It meant a lot that they both reached out and not only wanted to learn more about my situation, but took the steps to correct it. A+ for customer service and interaction. Next time I pass through Abilene I will definitely stop. read more

We stayed two separate nights when we were passing through while traveling. Each time we were coming in pass closing and we were given very nice courtesy calls stating the late night check in. The campground is very clean and well kept, along with the bathrooms/showers. Our dogs loved the little dog park as well! I'd definitely recommend this campground and come back! read more

Very packed, cable worked great but... that's it. WIFI Internet sucked, just outside Sprint 4G range. Closed two hours before advertised. No choice of site was offered, even though many empty spots existed. VERY EXPENSIVE FOR OFF SEASON. Paid 44$!!!! even after Good Sam card was presented. 30' travel trailer w/ 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 yorkie. NOT NEAR ANYTHING, except the interstate. read more

We (and our puppy) stayed here for our trailer maiden voyage, the hosts were super welcoming and friendly, hotel grade bathroom was very clean and outfitted with high-end lotion and hand soap (wife reported of the lady's bathroom), also had many necessities at the storefront. A more urban location next to a busy highway. This is an old site next to a Motel 6 - not a good location for tent campers. We did fine, pool was nice. Only issue was the store was supposed to be open at 8 am so we decided to get ice in the morning. Hubby went down twice and it wasn't open either time. He decided to forget it but they opened it up just as we were pulling out at about 9:30. That is not an experience we've had at any previous KOA. If something came up other than oversleeping, they should have put a sign and hubby wouldn't have been frustrated. We would choose a different spot next time. read more

KOA was all right. I got a very small cabin for near 50 dollars, which is fine. A cabin is an upgrade from a hotel room. They do not provide sheets or pillows and the bathrooms are community style - but it is cheap. You cannot have visitors unless you pay a fee and they all must leave at 10pm. Huge shade trees, green grass and garbage pick up at your site!!! Loved the amenities and it was so quiet and peaceful. Great store too....very well organized and clean...and they give dog treats! We stopped in for only one night on our way to Waco. Wish we could have stayed longer. The many large, mature trees made it feel like a private resort....hard to believe it is just off the interstate. The dog park was great...shaded with benches to sit on which we found not many campgrounds provide. There was a huge playground for children that was totally shaded. Nice pool with sitting area around the pool and playground. Picnic area set up around the store as well as sitting areas. Owners were very kind and hospitable. Made you feel you were family. This campground is near great restaurants and shopping, yet with all the trees surrounding the resort you feel you are in the country...city conveniences with a country setting. This particular KOA is saddled up against a sketchy hotel which is separated by an old, sad chain link fence that has a sagging gate. We actually saw a patrol car drive through this secluded hotel and came to find out later from a local that the hotel has a lot of "incidents". I believe it. At 3 am there were suspicious men yelling and bottles breaking in the hotel parking lot. They carried on and off all night. The KOA facilities themselves are so-so. There were a ton of RVs, the WIFI did not work, and it was pricey. I would not recommend this KOA. VERY disappointed. read more

It's gravel and still one of the nicest campgrounds we've seen. Friendly service, shaded, flat pull-through sites big enough for our 40-footer with tow. Easy access on and off I-20. Under some construction right now at the front of the building, but it wasn't a problem. No train sounds (like so many spots), and couldn't hear the highway inside our motorhome. Rarely check out the restrooms, etc. because we are self-contained, but hookups were good and free WiFi was EXCELLENT. read more

Abilene KOA has built a new fence surrounding the campground and also has made the permanent guests look more like they are camping. Managers on site patrolling nightly, clean bathrooms and showers. Amazing store with local artists selling their wares, and a good selection of convenience foods that is not overly priced. The local scene has museums, historical buildings, great restaurants, and fun parks for photo opportunities. A great place to stay for an overnight oasis or a few days to see the museums! read more
