The books are wrapped so you can't see the cover, and each one has a short description of the story or theme instead. It encourages you to choose a book based on the synopsis rather than the cover, which I think is such a fun idea. I've discovered some fantastic books through "Surprise Reads," so I was excited to see they had a section dedicated to them. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They helped me look for a series (The Telesa or Covenant series) that I am trying to get. Unfortunately they didn't have the series but hopefully in the future. The location is great as it is at a mall close to coffee shops to grab you a book and head on for coffee or tea to read and enjoy.

I love that I can call ahead and ask them to order a book and pick it up there instead of ordering from Amazon. Plus, my kid likes to participate in Battle of the Books through PVSD and they offer a discount on the books for that year, so it's really easy to stock up on a lot at once, or just pop in and grab one we are missing. Everyone in the staff is friendly, I feel like most of the times I visit I bump into at least one other regular, it's really clear a welcoming kind environment has been established. Lastly, I feel like there is such a strong bond with the community. Not just supporting the students in Battle of the Books, I teach art and I loved the idea of having my student's art on display around the city and Jen without hesitation allowed me to help decorate the window display over the summer. I stumbled upon a post they did which was in solidarity with a group of people and seeing that our values were aligned I knew this was a local small business that I needed to be supporting from here on out. I came midweek to shop and look around, and I had a great experience. It's a smaller bookstore, but they did have a lot to choose from! I was especially happy to see that they keep up with new and trending authors/books that come out. But of course, they also had a broad selection of every type of book you could think of. Being a smaller independent bookstore they don't have mass quantity though so if you find a book you like you should grab it because they only have a copy or two of each. I found that the pricing was comparable to anywhere else but again when you shop here you're supporting local small businesses so even if it was a little pricier, it would be worth it to me. They had a cute child's/kids section in the back so it would definitely be a great place to bring your little one to look around or read a story. The vibes are welcoming, but I also appreciate when staff leave you to look around without standing over your shoulder. The gal working behind the register was super nice and checked me out with quickness, that I was in and out without issue. The Sci-fi section was PACKED with trade papers, which is always a glory to behold as someone who misses the affordability and convenience books used to hold. Slipping a small trade paper of Terry Pratchett or a small copy of Little women used to be so convenient-rather than shelling out 20-30 dollars for a display piece that's bulky to carry around. The owner was also as helpful and sweet as humanly possible. He showed me right where I needed to be, and even helped me dig through the shelves to find if he had that one special edition of the secret garden he remembered having. Alas- it turned out he sold it a little while back. But all the same he was the kindest soul and most importantly had the passion in his eyes and heart for books that I look for walking into any book store, used or new. I need this experience, I needed to know places like this can still be called home.
