We had a leak with our sprinkler system and after looking for irrigation repair businesses we found ABE - landscape on Yelp. Messaged ABE and he got back with an appointment response for either 8-10 am or 4-6 pm for Friday the 3rd. I chose 8-10 am. Friday rolls around and it's past 10 am so I messaged and asked for an ETA or if he's going to come late. He called and asked to push back the appointment for the next day Saturday the 4th at 8:30 am - no problem! We rescheduled. Saturday comes around and it's 9:30. Called Abe and didn't pick up. Messaged on Yelp and he read the messages but didn't respond. I'm not much to care about not being able to come but not giving us a heads up after pushing the appointments back over and over and then not answering at all is unreliable and bad for business. I could have asked or found someone to come and get this leak fixed all this time. Unresponsive. Unreliable. EDIT: The pushing back doesn't bother me, the rescheduling also doesn't bother me - we get it, life happens. It was the not responding or letting us know that you won't be coming at all is what the problem was. I was sitting there all day waiting for a response or a call to let us know he won't be coming anymore. Especially after you read the messages I sent and screening the calls I've made after two appointments were made. Abe was great! We had some backyard patio drains that were obstructed due to dirt and roots. When I called him he came out the next day due to a bad rainstorm coming soon. He was able to remove quite a few large roots, clean out the drains, which resolved our issue. He told me how to prevent future incidences, and the number of hours it took him to complete the job was spot on. I was so impressed when he asked me to show him all the drains in the grass. I showed him one, which was the only one we've ever had. He said there must be more, but we've lived there for five years, and we never saw additional ones. He worked hard and was able to find two more drains that were actually covered with dirt and grass, 5 inches below the surface. We were shocked! He is awesome! I had a drainage pipe that collapsed under my hardscape. I reached out to a number of contractors for help but none was more responsive than Abe. His crew were able to dig out and replace the broken pipe and then reset my pavers without damaging them. They worked over the weekend to get the work completed when I was out of town, sending me photos to update me of their progress. Abe's pricing was more than reasonable. PLEASE READ BEFORE HIRING ABE! So we found Abe on Yelp and he had pretty good reviews, minus a few bad ones so we decided to have him come out and work on some irrigation at our home. He fixed what we needed fixing and we were happy. A few weeks later we had him come out and add some drip irrigation to all of of fruit and citrus trees.. i asked for a proposal and he gave nothing but we really wanted the work done so we went with him again. I asked if he did bigger projects as we needed dirt removed on a walkway and dg in its place, he said yes and gave me a price of $2300. A few days later i reached out saying that i got a quote someone else for $2000 and he said he could match it and would start beginning of the week. Again i was asking for a written proposal and he wouldnt provide. Also.. he had told us he was a licensed contractor which he IS NOT. So it comes to the day that he is supposed to start the work, he shows up with a few guys.. says its going to be more money than what we had agreed on. I said that i would go up to $2100 because we wanted the job done but wouldnt go any more since that was not what we had spoken about. He leaves and these guys get to work. The first day they dug up the area.. they broke a slate tile on our walkway, left trash all over, put a hole in our driveway from the wheelbarrow, and left dirt all over our yard where we did not agree for them to leave it. The second day we were not home and came home to a different color DG than we spoke about which actually wasnt 100% DG.. and what was supposed to be a finished job honestly looked terrible! When i was asking the guy why he didnt do what Abe said he says "who's Abe? the guy that dropped me off this morning?" So its clear at that point he just picked up some random dude and contracted the work to him.. and his reasons were that he wasnt going to make any money on the job so it didnt make sense for him to do it. Even though he gave me that price After the first round of issues with this guy, we told him not to come back and fix anything. I called Abe and explained and he said he would come by and take a look. The next morning Abe shows up and 100% agreed with us. It was a completely botched job! Even tho he had nothing to do with the work since he wasnt there.. it was still on him because he brought this guy to us under his company name. He said he wanted to make it right and would have his guys come back 2 days later, dig it all up and redo the job. Said labor was free and we just had to buy more DG. I thought that was stupid but said ok because we needed this to be complete and not a construction zone. He didnt answer at all confirming and then shows up day of, explains what to do and then leaves his guys saying hell be back to finish the DG part himself. I watched the guys from my office, worked for maybe 1 hour and then sat in my hammock for 5 hours waiting for Abe to show up. He said they were supposed to dig down 2 inches and it was clear that they didnt. So by the time Abe shows up he couldnt do his part so he left again and had them keep digging. End of the day they had dug down far enough and he said he would return the next day to finish. The next day comes around and he texts and says i cant come this morning but will be there in the afternoon. That was the last contact we had. This guy is a scam! He plays many cards. He is extremely unreliable and untrustworthy!! Take the extra 5 minutes and find someone who you can trust. For little jobs im sure he is fine.. but his true character came out with this big job that he screwed us on. Dont fall for him - If this message has any purpose its so no one else goes through what we did!! read more
