Also I love culture, theater, art and was worried I would have to travel far to experience that. My realtors from Beegee Realty, The Gambles, gave me a tour of Van Wert and one of the third stop on the tour was Niswonger Performing Arts Center. It's a beautiful theater, and I was pleased to know I can see quality theater blocks from my soon to be home. We went up to the ticket counter and we spoke with those working there and they gave me a short tour of the theater, they also explained to me it was already well into their season but they showed me which shows remain. I got a chance to come here, when I won some orchestra tickets at a company raffle (in my first week working there! Score!) to come see Jeanne Robertson at Niswonger. I love to laugh! So I was excited to see her. I have seen many stand up comedians in the past, but I noticed she is a humorist. That is something I had not seen before. There is a difference... more high brow and sophisticated. Per wiki: "Humor is the quality which makes experiences provoke laughter or amusement, while comedy is a performing art. The nineteenth century German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer lamented the misuse of humor (a German loanword from English) to mean any type of comedy. A humorist is adept at seeing the humor in a situation or aspect of life and relating it, usually through a story; the comedian generally concentrates on jokes designed to invoke instantaneous laughter. The humorist is primarily a writer of books, newspaper or magazine articles or columns, stage or screen plays, and may occasionally appear before an audience to deliver a lecture or read a piece of his or her work. The comedian always performs his or her work for an audience, either in live performance, audio recording, radio, television, or film." So I was excited to experience something new... something I had not seen even in Miami. Walking into the theater, I walked around and looked at the art. I checked my coat with my family in their coat room and relaxed before going to find our seats. It was easy to get to them and everyone who worked there was helpful. Watching Jeanne was a pleasure. I was in tears most of the show because she is just so funny! She is also very personable and endearing and you cannot help but love her and her show. Truly it was an amazing experience. If you want to get an idea of her humor, she has gotten a lot of notoriety on YouTube... with 12 million views with her story on her husband (who has a PhD) epically failing at buying the necessary ingredients at a grocery store for 7-Up cake. Which oddly is one of my favorite cakes, but I digress. Just look up on YouTube: "Don't send a man to a grocery store!"... you will laugh I guarantee you! Wonderful show! Enjoyed every moment! I am truly happy to be able to go to such an amazing performing arts center in my new home!

The view is hard to see when the cars are sideways in a perpendicular order. The what to believe son of the owner explained how his dad (the owner) "was not a guy to piss off"as we just asked where we should park. I made a six-hour drive to The Clyde Theatre for the Ryan Adams Heartbreaker 2025 Tour, my second…read moreshow of Ryan's in two days. So, yeah, I had high hopes, being a repeat concert attendee. This was my first time at The Clyde, and while the drink from the bar missed the mark--zero flavor and nothing like the picture on the menu--it was the only hiccup in an otherwise smooth night. I couldn't bring myself to drink the "Easy Tiger" (the only reason I bought it was because it was Ryan-themed, honestly) because it was sooo bad (deduction of star for this reason). When the lights dimmed and Ryan Adams took the stage, the sound wrapped around me, filling every corner of the space with his signature, aching voice. I won't go on too long about the sound, though--it's a Sweetwater Sound building and a Ryan Adams collaboration. The sound had no choice but to be tight, clean, and alive. Security was present but relaxed, letting the night unfold without being a distraction, something I have seen security be at other venues. Parking was easy--probably the closest I've ever been for a Ryan show. Like literally right outside the front door. What is this!? I can't leave out the art in the bathroom--unexpected and quirky, a small touch that speaks to the venue's attention to detail. I'd return to The Clyde without hesitation. It's a space that supports live original, soulful, introspective, haunting music with ease. Next time, I just hope the drink tastes as good as the show sounds.

Additionally the seats are hard plastic and not comfortable. Couple this with wide bottom people whose rear ends spill onto my seat...not a comfortable experience. I would much rather go to another venue that specializes in comfort that do the Clyde again. On the positive side...buying tickets was easy. There was lots of parking close to the door. The facility is very attractive. The bar looked like a fun place. The show was excellent. The lightning and sounds were very good! The security lady was not friendly. All business - get in the door. The ushers were nice and full of smiles. Very kind. I was actually mildly offended by the security team that was "pushing" us out the door. We waited for a lot of the crowd to clear as it was a packed show. We stepped into the aisle as we were the last of the crowd leaving. These two thug-type Gestapo looking man stared us down. Every step we. Iced forward - they moved. It felt like they were crowding and pushing out the door. His forbid I had to go back to my seat to retrieve a left item. Again...the show and facility were nice. The close seating and security people made the experience not worthy of repeating!

When you first enter the building there is a small gift shop off to your left filled with little knick knacks and souvenirs- all of which are reasonably priced. There are a couple of kid themed learning centers in the conservatory. They're somewhat inconveniently located right in the first and second part of the building which makes for a somewhat congested and loud atmosphere filled with crying and running kids all over the place. The actual conservatory exhibits are something straight out of The Land Before Time. The rainforest, desert and floral exhibits are large, lush and well kept. I was rather impressed and quite surprised at how nice this location is since I'm spoiled in the sense that the botanical gardens I have in my hometown are rather extensive and pretty epic.

We were able to enter the Gardens for free since we have an American Horticulture Society garden membership. There are several indoor gardens to see as well as an extensive outdoor garden. They included extras like a butterfly garden for free. But you will have to wait in line because only a few people are allowed in at a time. The gardens had a wide variety of trees and plants to see. Unfortunately, when we were there they were setting up for a wedding so we were unable to walk the entire grounds. Still we had a good time and I highly recommend the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Gardens!
