Marquee hosts announcement of upcoming movie premiere
    Richard P.

Fort Wayne's Embassy Theatre is one of Indiana's true gems, a historic theatre that has maintained much of its charm over the years and that continues to serve the Fort Wayne area incredibly well. The Embassy Theatre was first built in 1928. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 5, 1975 and has a seating capacity of 2,471 making it ideal as a regional music and event venue. The theatre was reopened as a performing arts center in 1975. The Embassy Theatre was originally known as the Emboyd Theatre - the name was changed in 1952. It is the home of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Orchestra and hosts a fairly wide variety of performers ranging from well known comics to musicians to touring stage performances to, yes, the occasional movie. A friend of mine, George Johnson, is getting ready to host the first screening of his new film at the Embassy Theatre. While I often dock venues a star related to accessibility concerns, I tend to take a different attitude with historic venues. As venues that are legally exempt from ADA requirements AND tasked with maintaining historic features once on the National Register, there are inevitable limits when it comes to accessibility - I really look at if there's an effort to be welcoming to all and how does the venue adapt. Some really get it wrong. Others, including the Embassy, do surprisingly well. Wheelchair seating is available at the back of sections B and C. This is good seating (not great), but very workable and the staff do what they can to make it work. It is highly advised to request wheelchair seating when ordering tickets. Mezzanine and balcony seating is not wheelchair accessible and will be difficult for those with other mobility impairments as access is via stairs only with no elevator. The Embassy has two wheelchairs on-site available for patron use. They also offer assistive listening devices. Interpreters require at least 48 hours advance notice for a performance. They also offer sensory-friendly kits (sponsored by AWS Foundation) for those with sensory issues. All events at the Embassy have security from area law enforcement. These are all actual officers and are friendly but don't mess around. I always do laugh when I see the "shirt, shoes, and pants" required sign. I've been in the Embassy Theatre without shoes, though that's pretty much limited to folks like me who don't actually have feet. The original Grande Page Pipe Organ is still on-site and was restored between 1976-96. Attached to the theatre to the west is the seven-story Indiana Hotel. In 1995, the stage was expanded from 44'7" to 54 feet. The Indiana Hotel's lobby and mezzanine were also renovated. A new marquee was added in 2005. The theatre was built right before the Great Depression really hit. This Eberson-designed theatre was originally designed as a movie house and vaudeville venue. A host of classic performers hit this stage - Doris Day, Perry Como, Lawrence Welk, Louis Armstrong, Tony Bennett, Red Skelton, Donald O'Connor, and many others. It was sold in 1952 (when the name changed) and Indiana Hotel closed in 1971. Buddy Nolan, a local organist, really became a sort of guardian for the Embassy and for the actual pipe organ. So many theatres died during this time, though Embassy hung in there and in the mid-70s the Embassy Theatre Foundation was established and a campaign to save it in place. To this day, the theatre is run by the foundation and continues operating having survived (with struggle) through even the current pandemic. There is so much to love with the Embassy. It's a classic venue that continues to be ideal for movies, music, comedy, stage productions, and more. You can rent various areas of the venue. There's a sense of hospitality here and a welcoming spirit. While there are accessibility limits, there's an effort to be inclusive and they include a racial equity statement on their website. Bravo all across the board.

The theatre itself is gorgeous. You can feel the history in the building as you walk in. The line to get into our event was wicked long so we sat outside next store and drank some beers until it was closer to the door. The show started super late due to the line being so long. Once you get to the door the check in process is really quick though. The lobby area is really gorgeous and has a few concession areas. There is another concession stand upstairs for the upper seating areas. The first set of stairs are wide and sturdy. The stairs to the upper seating are thickly cushioned and feel like you're going to fall through them. How they held up with a sold out show exiting twice in one night is a feat in engineering. The seats weren't comfortable in my opinion. It may have been because we were in the super tippy top of the theater thanks to last minute purchasing the tickets, but the leg room was not meant for people over 5'8" let alone 6'+. You have to sit sideways if you're tall like I am. I ended up standing the last twenty minutes of the show because I didn't want to sit sideways any longer. All in, it's an ok place for a quick show and probably better if you're seated closer to the floor level. I wouldn't recommend any long shoes there though.

Went to this entertainment venue tonight 6/16/23 to see Kansas 50th Anniversary tour live. This place is absolutely beautiful inside. Great people working there to assist you if needed. First time being there.

We came here to see the Christmas tree exposition. At first we did not know what to expect. Just regular Christmas trees decorated in different ways. Well, it was quite that, but with many different concepts of trees...starting with ones made out of tires all the way to regular ones with fun decorations. If you are looking for a place to visit around during the holidays with family, this is one of the options to take.

One of the oldest theatres in Indiana is The Embassy Theatre. The Embassy Theatre was built in 1928 celebrating it's 90th birthday last year! It is such an ornate theater that it's worth just going inside for a peek at the architecture and detailing. They have an awesome line up of all kinds of performances from the FW Philharmonic to Broadway series performances. The King and I, Harry Potter in Concert, Chris Angel and Neil Degrasse Tyson! A lot of shows go to The Embassy because it is such an iconic theatre, they completely pass up Indianapolis. I didn't even see a play here but it was really fun going inside to check it out. I have already looked up their schedule to find a time to come back!

I booked my wedding with the embassy, and not only were they professional, they were super nice. From the moment I booked the venue, Brittneay, my event coordinator, was helpful with information needed and kept things moving as we approached the wedding. When things didn't go according to plan (I broke my foot a week before the wedding), she was still calm and collected, making it the BEST day! I can honestly say I felt everything was taken care of, and even though a lot was going on, the embassy and Brittneay handled everything with professionalism and class, which was really all we could've hoped for. They were also super accommodating with everything we needed for that day, I felt completely taken care of. I'm not planning on getting married again, but it was the dream wedding in a beautiful place with fantastic people to work with!

I have visited the Embassy numerous times! The events have ranged from graduations, their Summer Nights series, concerts, and now a wedding. And I have to say they knock it out of the park for everything. The professionalism and attention given by the event managers is top notch. Brenda met us in the lobby and showed us to the room we were able to get ready in ALL day. The ceremony and reception were both at the Embassy starting at 4:30pm and we gained access to this getting ready space around 10am. Our hair stylist and make up artist were allowed to do all the pampering in that room as well! The Embassy has more than enough space for a bridal party. Their restrooms are big and spacious as well! NOTE: no outside food or drink is permitted so don't be dumb like us and have to chug your triple caramel soy latte frappe before heading up to the room. Security is also top notch. The Embassy is huge so the event managers wear ear pieces and many floors are locked down during events. Great for bridal parties feeling secure leaving their valuables in the dressing/getting ready areas. The ceremony spot. My friends got married on the steps in the grand entrance. I believe this is a common place for the ceremony. The aisle splits two long narrow areas of seats for the guests. I would guess that each side was about 5 seats across and can go several rows back. It was a photographer's dream I am sure to capture wedding vows on this ornate staircase. The ballroom. ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS. If you have dreams of a fairy tale, Cinderella wedding in FW - this is your spot! There is an upstairs as well for more seating that is open down to the dance floor area. Very open, airy, elegant feel. I never felt too packed into the space. Roof top access. Oh yeah....and you get rooftop access with ballroom rental (in all cases I believe). It is probably my favorite view of Downtown. From the service to the venue The Embassy does a damn good job!

The team was very welcoming and glad to have us as their guests. Booking a reservation was easy on line. On this occasion we went to a free program. They seem to have a free program about every three months for those looking for things to do on a budget. The performance area seats about 400-500 people in padded chairs. The chairs are all on the same flat level. The stage is nicely elevated so viewing isn't a problem. I found the chairs to be thin on padding and somewhat uncomfortable for a 90 minute performance. The lighting is well done. The acoustics are superb as well.

I brought my brother and mother with me to watch it, as my family's origins are from Spain and we were excited to see a ballet based on Don Quixote. I will see the Pearl Street Arts Center is beautiful. I laughed and loved that they called their box office, the bach's office. I also read about them before I came in and how they have art and entrepreneurial classes. Since the civic theatre has been out of commission due to renovations I know that the ballet company has been doing shows in different venues. I do not feel comfortable leaving a bad review for the ballet on Pearl Street Arts Center since I do not think they are responsible, so will be doing a separate review of the ballet. I will say, that the little time I spent inside Pearl Street Arts Center, I was captivated by the beauty within it.

The Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts was founded in 1956 by Major Herbert Petrie, his wife, and…read moretheir friends John and Kitty Butterfield. It was originally known as Wagon Wheel Playhouse. Fun fact: Major Petrie played trumpet in the Army band under the direction of John Philip Sousa. The original theatre started as a simple tent with a gravel floor, canvas chairs, and two old chicken coops that served as the scene shop and dressing rooms. In the early 60s, a simple structure was actually built. In 1970, Major Petrie retired and sold the playhouse to a group of Warsaw businessmen. In 1984, a new group bought it and in 1995 Bruce Shaffner became sole owner. In 2010, there was a corporate reorganization and it became a non-profit organization known as Wagon Wheel Theatre, Inc. The Wagon Wheel has a circular stage with 360-degree seating. Seating goes 10 rows high - so it's a fairly immersive experience. Free and general parking is located behind the theatre. Accessible parking is located in the parking lot next to Center Street and along the side of the theater facing the Wyndham. Accessibility options do exist here. I wouldn't call them perfect, though there's been an obvious effort. There's one accessible stall in both men's and women's restrooms. Accessible seating is limited to Section 1, Row G (this doesn't thrill me) - companion seating is also available. Accessible tickets are sold only through the box-office or by calling. Usher service begins an hour before the show - there's a preference here to remove unneeded walkers, wheelchairs, and larger mobility devices not needed during the performance (ushers will assist - again, not thrilled about this as one never knows when a device may be needed and getting it back can be disruptive). The AWS Foundation has supported Wagon Wheel in acquiring sensory bags and other items for those with light, hearing, and other sensory sensitivities. SuperEar Listening devices are available for those with hearing issues. This is free of charge. Service animals are welcome, though they must be in a clearly marked vest. In addition to regular shows, Wagon Wheel offers a variety of programs in support of its mission. They exist for all age groups. They are quite active in the community. Shows here are entertaining, the acoustics are strong, and staff/volunteers are nearly always friendly. Shows include live theater, symphony, concerts, and other types of shows. This is a Northeast Indiana gem. While there are some modest accessibility concerns I have, there's a strong effort to be inclusive and the theatre is absolutely a beloved gem for this community. The recent holiday show was spirited and impressive. Despite my concerns about seating, I will admit my seats were fine and the show was awesome.

We drove to Fort Wayne hoping to watch good theatre. The Civic Theatre is part of a larger complex called Arts United center which has a philharmonic, art exhibits and other cultural venues. The staff is friendly and helpful. The lines in will call are practically non-existent. The lines in the ticket booth are not much larger. There are certainly some negatives 1) No valet parking. Parking is also a rather long walk from theatre. I am used to theaters with either valet parking or at worst a nearby parking lot. May not be a problem for me, but my mother is older and she does have problems walking long distances. Several other patrons were also in the same situation. The nearest parking garage is several blocks away. 2) the seats are narrow and a bit uncomfortable. The narrowness didn't bother me, but my brother is larger and it was a tight fit for him. Not a lot of cushion on the seat though 3) The decor is a bit spartan compared to other theaters I have been to. 4) No alcohol sold either before the play or during intermission. They do sell sodas/pop and small snacks. I still believe though that even with these negatives, it is worth coming. The play was entertaining and well acted. My mother loved her birthday gift.
