I literally signed up to Yelp just so I can share my experience with Dyphor…read more Every bad review you have read about them is true. My family and I didn't read the reviews prior to purchasing since we were just walking by and found them. The owner, Francesca, will gaslight you until you turn into an Exxon gas station. One of the rudest business owners I have ever dealt with. On Jan 1st - I ordered 4 dining chairs and 4 bar stools which equated to thousands of dollars that we paid upfront. The 4 dining chairs were in the showroom so we took that home right away. The 4 bar stools were going to be ordered and delivered from Indonesia and she said you will get them in late March or early April. I got my barstools the last week of July, four months later than promised. I am actually not upset that the stools were late. I was upset with the following: 1) The first time I called to get an update was in April. When I called, I was told they were shipping in 2 weeks. This was from an associate in the store 2) When I called in May, I was told they were delayed. This time Francesca got on the phone and went on a rant. - "There is Ramadan, so they are delayed in Indonesia. How can you not understand this?" - Meanwhile, I literally only asked why was the delivery was delayed. - Never mind that Ramadan was in March and that I had ordered these on January 1st and it was now May. - I had no idea why she was mad at me? I wasn't even upset on the phone. I was just asking where these multi-thousand dollar bar stools were - She then went on a rant and said "You have no respect for small businesses. We're a small business trying to survive" - For the life of me, I couldn't understand why she was ranting this to me. All I had asked was where are my bar stools. 3) I called in June and asked if there was an update - This time, Ahmed, her husband talked with me and said, we're really sorry that the shipment from Indonesia is delayed, it will come in 6 weeks. - And you know what, I said thank you for being honest, this is all I wanted to know. - Ahmed is actually a nice guy who is very fair to deal with. He was honest, he did not gaslight me and go on a rant as to why its absurd of me to ask where my barstools are after being several months late I am making this review so people understand what they are getting themselves into when dealing with Dyphor. They have cool stuff but Francesca's demeanor is not worth it. They will not follow up with you, they will gaslight you and you will wait way longer for your stuff than they say. What softened the blow of not having the barstools is back in Jan, they gave us 2 loaner stools to use, so I do appreciate that. It's ok if it takes a long time for things to get made, just be honest and don't treat people badly. They changed locations in Brooklyn so the other Yelp page is closed for them but you can find it in the link below. More reviews that are similar to mine - https://www.yelp.com/biz/dyphor-brooklyn

I went here on the recommendation of a Home Depot associate. Until then I would walk past their storefront wondering who goes into their store location. Soon as you enter you will see 2-3 Asian women on the left. A couple of them take orders while one handles payments and also coordinates pickups. They have a mind-boggling variety of options for acrylic sheets--clear/frosted/opaque, etc. and also colors. Visit them in person or at their website. Note that this is not the place for design advice. Come with a clear view of what you are looking for and Canal Plastics will make it happen. Most orders are processed within an hour, but allow an extra day if the edges need polishing. Finally, on price--they are quite expensive, but that speaks to their product quality and also pricing power.

My review of USM is challenging to write. USM is high quality modular furniture you can design to…read moreextraordinary specifications, BUT the responsiveness of the people at USM is abysmal. Initial responsiveness, let alone a return phone call was impossible to receive until multiple attempts over the course of a few months. Finally there was a breakthrough and the design and installation were executed on two pieces to a very high standard. We did so much, at one time, my residential account was the largest in the US. I am nearly complete with my USM home furnishings, but I have now been stalled over a year, perhaps approaching two years. There are smaller pieces remaining to design and install, but it is evident I am being treated as a low priority. Now that the bad news is out of the way, this modular furniture can be designed to incredible specificity to suit anyone's needs. It is very strong and highly utilitarian, adding tremendous storage and organization, but the color palette for the steel and glass, as well as configurations and lighting, make for something you can appreciate more for its aesthetics. You never tire of looking at it. The dimmable lighting can set the mood anytime you please. You can even add planters to add to your interior greenery and that is one of the features I have. USM offers modular functionality that can do nearly anything and serve a myriad of purposes. We achieved two pieces, one which became my cigar humidor and another larger piece serves so many purposes that my designer calls it the Swiss Army knife. Both are unique pieces and neither had been executed before. If I were evaluating solely on the utilitarian, aesthetic, and functional attributes to satisfy the most demanding requirements, USM would receive a five star rating unquestionably. However, USM is terribly frustrating to deal with when it comes to getting a response from them. They are at a one star or no stars when it comes to responsiveness. This is my quandary. They are nice people and good people at USM. They can work with you and do things only scant few can do to meet your requirements. However, there is quite a perceptible pushing you to the back burner when it comes to how they view you as a priority. You will no longer receive return phone calls, emails or even invitations once you fall off their radar, despite your attempts. You can even show up in their showroom speaking German with their people, leaving a written message, to no avail. Really, I tried... So where and how do you rate a business that can do so extraordinarily well, yet so poorly...? I am simply going to split the difference and your mileage may vary depending on how much weight you place on various components of a given evaluation. I will not struggle with this one any more than I have to and give them three stars.

So, I never write…read morereviews on Yelp. Actually I never write reviews period. But I had such a fantastic experience in Ace Hardware Brickman 18th and First Avenue that I must share. I went in to get some shelves for my apartment. I was greeted by an older gentleman, who not only got me what I needed but took the timeout. I mean really took the time to explain to me what to do. Which I needed. The staff friendly, well trained, and kind. A handicap woman came into Ace while I was there and I was watching from the corner of my eye. I must say there are good people out there. It might as well have been Michelle Obama the way the helped this lady. Their expertise are second to none. Very very educated in all aspects of hardware. I go to Home Depot ask them where can I find an angle grinder cordless they look at me like I have three heads or push me off on someone else. I shouldn't feel that way that I'm bothering them when asking for some service-be a human. Anyway screw Home Depot never get a penny when I can go to this first rate godsend on 18th and first.

I bought a corded hammer drill here for pickup, and the next morning, less than a day later, it…read morestarted smoking while I was using it normally. When I brought it back and explained what happened, the manager, Yvette, plugged it in, ran it for a few seconds with nothing attached, told me it was "fine" and treated me like I was making it up. A drill motor running with no load won't catch an issue that only appears under load, and a brand new drill that smokes is a serious fire hazard. It was completely negligent of Yvette to tell me to continue using the drill and not accept it as a defective return. This creates both a liability issue for the store and a safety issue for me. I raised these concerns and she was dismissive the whole time. I ended up leaving, calling Ace's customer service line and getting them on a three-way call with the store. The phone rep was great and easy to deal with. Yvette only agreed to take the drill back because I'd ordered it online through Ace for pickup, which meant the rep could force the return. Otherwise I doubt she'd have budged. She gave the rep attitude too. After she hung up, the rep apologized to me for how rude Yvette had been. I went back to the store and the return went through, but even when completing the return, the cashier was openly cold. I asked how her day was going, and she just said "fine," flat and unfriendly, without looking at me. Because of this experience, this location has lost my business. I won't buy from a hardware store that doesn't seem to take seriously the safety of the tools it sells or how it treats customers who flag a problem. I've still got the invoice, the return receipt, and Ace customer support case number if the owner wants to look into it.

It was massive but clunky and finished with inches of thick epoxy resin. The client thought it was a lost cause and questioned tossing it. I contacted RE-CO BKLYN after watching a video posted on several social media sites and knew their mission and business ethics would appeal to my client's eco aesthetic & consciousness. (full disclosure, I know co-owner Roger Benton socially.) After an initial onsite consultation which Roger answered and assuaged my client's curiosity about the process and project we scheduled a pick up for the massive hunk of wood which was carried up 3 flights of a narrow staircase by Roger & his partner. Several weeks later and my client is overwhelmed and in love with this "new" dining table. The entire floor plan of the apartment has been re-arranged to showcase the gorgeous table. It is sleek, sophisticated and stunning. What impressed me the most was the tactile quality of the finish. It is the softest, most buttery wood surface I've ever touched.
