From the moment I called to schedule the appointment, the staff was kind, considerate of our school schedule, and incredibly helpful. Checking in went exactly how they explained it would over the phone. We had almost no wait time and were brought back almost right away. During the appointment, I truly felt like we were given plenty of time, and everything was communicated clearly and thoroughly. Even though my little one had to have her eyes "stunged out" (her words! ), she walked away overjoyed and said she had so much fun after the exam because the robot no longer scared her. Highly highly highly recommend ABC Children's for every eye need. This place and these people are wonderful!!! From the front desk, to the doctors, nurses, and glasses specialist, everyone is truly fantastic. Our daughter has had eye issues since she was 8 months old (she's 3 now) which was quite shocking and upsetting as new parents. We tried multiple doctors and were not happy with the care until we found ABC children's Eye Specialists and they put us at ease and created a safe environment that our daughter actually loves. We have seen multiple doctors in this practice and each one has been gentle, kind, spent quality time with us, has been so so sweet with our daughter, and are impressively skilled doctors. These doctors don't just know the eye, they know kids and parents; and they care! Our experience each and every time we've been has been flawless. They always have good times to get us in, they are efficient with the time we are in the office, they bill insurance with ease, and they hook us up with the cutest glasses for our girl. Seriously, she looks forward to going to the eye doctor! The offices aren't anything fancy, but they have stuff for kids to play with and watch while they wait and the care they provide is the best in the valley...or maybe anywhere. Honestly, this clinic was ok. The staff was kind, and the wait times were very low, which I appreciated. However, I'm writing this review because about 24 hours after my son's eye exam, he developed impetigo which is a highly contagious bacterial skin infection -- in all of the areas on his face where the equipment had touched him during the exam. If you're not familiar, impetigo can spread either through direct contact with an infected person or from bacteria lingering on surfaces that haven't been properly sanitized. The fact that his rash appeared exactly where the sunglasses and other tools sat makes me fear the equipment may not have been cleaned thoroughly between patients. That's extremely concerning, especially considering how many children are seen here every day. To be fair, I can't say with 100% certainty that this clinic was the cause it could be a coincidence. But the timing and location of the infection make it very hard to believe it's unrelated. I'm sharing this review simply to warn other parents to be cautious and to encourage the clinic to take infection control more seriously. read more

We are always able to get in to see them when we have an urgent need and never have to wait a long time when we arrive for our scheduled appointments. We have been here over 2 hours with our child's eyes dilated. The front desk says another 45 minutes to be seen. Meanwhile they are calling others back before who showed up after us. The front desk says they moved people around.... For what? No one seems to know. We have been going here for over 7 years, but ever since Dr. Cassidy stopped taking certain cases, the care and communication has been horrendous. My child had a test a month ago and no matter how many times I call to inquire about them, no one has called me back nor can I get ahold of the office. We had an appt at 2:30 and drove an hour to get there 20 minutes early. We didn't even get called back until after 3 where they did an exam and then sent us back to the waiting room to wait again. The waiting room is insane. Kids are literally running around, screaming so that patients can't even hear their name being called. This appt should have been done at 430 and it's now 4:00 and we are still waiting. Absolutely ridiculous. I would never recommend anyone go here, I've never experienced anything as bad as this in a medical office. Making toddlers wait hours is just bad practice. read more

Love the optometrists! Hate the office staff and office structure. Forget trying to call the Phoenix location. They don't answer. Took 2 months to get my son's warrantied lenses. They also no longer cover frames under warranty. The optomologist is a third party and makes their own hours. The last 3 times I have come in no one was there. So you basically waste your time driving in because you can't call and get through. There operation is such a joke. It's too bad because their optometrists are good. I would get rid of your optomologist vendor and provide your customers with a phone number so they can contact you directly at the Phoenix location. read more

They kept changing doctors for my kids, every appointment and every time I went there I had to remind the new doctors that my daughter actually had surgery with one of their own doctors!. Furthermore, one of the doctors said my daughter might need another surgery and I wanted to consult with the Dr. that performed her previous surgery and the Dr. actually denied talking to us. (I think he wanted to schedule surgery without talking or seeing the patient????) - anyways STRONGLY dissatisfied. Almost every staff member was yawning and looked tired. The waiting room was packed with not enough seats for everyone. We were told we would have to wait a half hour after dilation to be seen by the doctor but we were seen an hour and a half later. We didn't love our experience here. I would not recommend and will not be coming back. They book way to many appointments at the same time. Many other families were frustrated and one mom expressed that this is the norm for ever appointment they have had. This kind of scheduling and waiting is unfair to children and families. read more

I highly recommend Dr. Burke at ABC Children's Eye Specialists. My son was a 26 weeker - a micropreemie. We have had over a dozen doctors and therapists. With complex medical history and delays, I am BEYOND particular about his care. I am also in management at a health insurer - I have high healthcare literacy and higher expectations. I expect a GREAT doctor and competent office staff who don't waste my time (just like I wouldn't waste theirs) - period. I am also a first time mom - and my baby spent the first 16 weeks of his life in a hospital. I am missing "mom" knowledge, and have already seen life or death with my son a few times. I don't know what's alarming, what's not... things are different with a micropreemie. You hear different things from different docs and early intervention is critical. The NICU scheduled our first visit with Dr. Burke. When the top level NICUs in the state refer to them, they are well beyond competent. But there's also that "fit" component (especially with a strong personality like mine). I have seen Dr. Burke twice now. He is absolutely phenomenal. Great manner with me and my son. Walked into our room already familiar with my baby, his history, his visit many months before - and commented on his improvement vs. even the minor prior concerns I had expressed - all while he was evaluating a new concern. Very thorough in answering EVERY question, did not rush at all (though he is very busy) - and also didn't make me feel like a crazy lady. He also has an amazing way of explaining things in a manner that a normal person can "get". His explanations are exceptionally thorough - but my totally healthcare illiterate, extremely ADHD husband absorbed it all. This is truly impressive (and critical, because healthcare literacy is a serious problem for most people). My husband generally doesn't even try to follow discussions with doctors anymore... the conversations are too technical and move way too fast for him. He actually absorbed what Dr. Burke said and was confident enough to discuss his thoughts with me on the way home (and he was spot on and relevant)! Again - truly impressive. We see MANY pediatric specialists... nearly all of them are special humans - it takes someone with extra passion to be a specialist that deals primarily with kids that have medical challenges. Even amongst those, though, trust me... some are good enough... some are great... some are beyond truly amazing. I am an extremely particular person and I *expect* the absolute best care for my baby. I almost never see a doctor who meets ALL of my expectations and my wants too. Dr. Burke is all that and more, 100% in that "beyond truly amazing" category. I see zero room for improvement (beyond wishing he was a little less busy). He is exceptional. read more

I'm surprised by the number of positive reviews for this location. The receptionists are rude and impatient. I took my son for his first ever eye exam. I myself never had glasses as a kid so I really didn't know what to expect. They just give the test, dilate the eyes and you wait for awhile and go back for another test.. the doctor handed me the prescription with no explanation. I ended up taking the prescription to Nationwide and was glad I did. The lady who helped us was so kind, patient and she even got teary eyed because my son apparently is very blind. I'm a widow and it can be overwhelming, would have like a kind patient doctor who explained what was going on with his eyes. read more

let just say my experience in this office was horrible! my first visit I was waiting for 3 hours in the waiting room then after going to my second appointment because I find the doctors super nice. I called to let them know I was going be 15 mins late, keep in mind the wait was for 36 mins on the phone after I had a girl tell me it's ok, they have a 20 min grace period! that completely BULLSHIT. I got there for them to tell me I needed to reschedule, how it is that I spent 3 hours my first visit and my second visit I spend another 36 mins in a call all for them to give me incorrect information and to reschedule me. this office is unprofessional and they will waste your time and are not considered. Don't even bother making ANY appointment with them. There plenty Eye doctor your insurance can cover. read more

Our first visit here was great. Dr. Kueny took the time to answer questions and explain things to us with simple terms. The staff was great. Front desk had great customer service. The assistant that roomed my daughter was super sweet. The only negative would be that I talked to someone twice on different occasions about adding my daughters insurance to her chart and when I got there the insurance still hadn't been added. But the front desk which I didn't get her name unfortunately was super patient and kind. read more

We LOVE dr. Brar & all of the assistant eye technicians that have worked with our 2 kids!! Dr. Brar is great with kids and very observant. The only reason I would give 4 stars instead of 5 is their phone system is highly inefficient. It doesn't seem fair to their time or mine if I have questions for them to only be able to say "I don't know, you'll have to wait for the office to open." According to maps & the internet, the office opens at 7:45, and the person answering the phone is unable to handle any questions until 8 when someone qualified can get to the phone. This is also true if you call after 4:30. You will literally have someone say "you'll have to wait for the office to open between 8 am & 4:30 pm tomorrow." It would be great if these were the actual hours posted, and the expectation was clear. The 3 calls I made during office hours were also fruitless, as I needed records emailed to me and they got my email wrong each time. To be fair, my email is not super easy, and it is possible they genuinely misheard me three times. Otherwise, I have been so grateful for the staff that makes my children's eye exams so easy and exciting. What could be a new & scary experience for very small children is truly made into a welcoming journey in learning about their eyes & how they work. read more

they have given my daughter 3 different rx's this year. the last one was only a few weeks ago and already my daughter is saying how much her eyes hurt. practically in tears last night over how much 1 eye(her bad eye) hurts. Every time we have gone they have charged us full price for a return visit. Now being only a few weeks since their last useless rx yet again they are going to change us for a full return visit. same cost as a regular annual exam no discount. The last few visits the staff has been incredibly rude non caring not even slightly friendly. This latest phone call was no different. She said it is their billing policy to charge full charges for every visit regardless if it's their fault for giving out the wrong rx. So basically they can give our children wrong rx's over and over again how ever many times they want so they can get more money. They clearly don't care about children. Any time I talked with them either in person or over the phone they give off attitude of snobbery "dont care about you come here or don't I am better than you" And now my daughter has to suffer with horrible eye aches because of their greed until I can come up with another 80 dollars to pay them. As a single struggling mother of 2 small children so close to Christmas now I get to watch my daughter cry every night because I made the mistake of trusting this office. I wish I never took her here- at least the last rx they got wrong didn't cause her to cry in pain. My Grandson saw Antonio Barrera PA-C on March 18, 2024 who was running 2 hours late for the appointment. Mr. Barrera prescribed him a new prescription without using a Phoropter to measure the eye for the eye prescription. (My grandson's eyes were dilated.) Mr. Barrera opened my son's chart and using the previous years prescription, increased a few of the numbers on the prescription. I realized that the exam was done poorly, I took my son to Phoenix Children's Hospital Ophthalmologist on April 12, 2024. That ophthalmologist examined my son's eyes and used the Phoropter. He wrote a new prescription, which was totally different that the one Mr. Barrera used. read more

They flat out lied to us twice on the phone before our appointment. Not only did we have to wait 3 weeks after discovering our son's cataracts for the appointment, but when I scheduled the appointment, very clearly specifying that we needed to see the doc that does cataract surgery, becaues of his cataracts, so we were scheduled with the only provider they have that does cataract surgery. When we got there...AFTER they already started the appointment and traumatized my son by dilating his eyes (2nd time since the optometrist did too) they told us that the only provider they have who treats cataracts isn't doing surgery anymore because she's pregnant. Which makes zero sense since pregnancy does not stop a doc from doing surgery and she was barely even showing. They also lied TO MY FACE about being in network with my insurance. The same thing happened to a friend of mine. Charged her $500 for glasses when it is covered by her insurance. As far as the office. It's a pediatric clinic and there were no toys or anything remotely welcoming to children besides a movie on tv. DO NOT GO HERE. They are scam con artists. read more

Love Dr Cassidy but man if you ever try to get a person to answer a call or question, forget it. I've called for over an hour trying every automated option. I finally select medical records for me to supply the person information who cannot answer the PD for my sons glasses prescription- better not leave without having the full Rx written down or your left hung up on without an answer. The office is horrific - waiting over 3 hours of fine, the staff cannot help nor answer any questions, they wouldn't Ben transfer me to someone who could answer my PD question. Dr. Cassidy is fantastic. Him and his optician Monique are the only reason we stay. He's practical and kind. Office is frequently behind but likely not his fault. His support staff is horrendous though. I'm sure turnover is high, but they are typically pretty incompetent. Dr. Cassidy is worth it all, but it makes it hard. If he were to ever leave we would be gone. read more

They are too small for the volume of people they schedule. Waiting room has chairs for less than half of scheduled appointments, extreme waiting times and no kids stuff to keep their patients occupied while waiting. I have been to both locations and have never had this issue at McDowell office. Won't be coming to this facility again. read more
