Would I recommend this place? Only if you have low expectations and don't plan to stay long. I moved here, only expecting to stay a year, and barely made it that long.
It's not all bad, but it's mostly bad.
Pros:
Top floor has vaulted ceilings.
Units are updated.
Maintenance is fast.
Very pet friendly.
Close to bus stop.
Low move-in fees (which is also a con, see below).
Cons:
Low move-in fees mean you'll owe money when you move out. Automatic flat fees for carpet cleaning, apartment cleaning, and painting. Yet they expect you to clean the place spotless before you move out.
A pre-move out inspection is done, with their 2 day notice (when you're moving out, you might not be home to get that notice). I have NEVER had a pre-move out inspection. And since I was mostly moved out already, I was not living there to get the notice, and of course, they don't call to make sure you know they're going to enter your apartment.
This place is not safe - many burglaries, car break-ins, and general trespassing in the 10 months that I lived there. When my package was stolen right in front of the manager (the thief dumped it after opening it, I guess he didn't want kitty litter pads), the manager didn't let me know that he filed a police report, reviewed the security cameras, etc. It was like they didn't care, because it happens all the time.
The unit doors slam shut and shake everyone's walls - and your neighbor will leave a grammatically incorrect note on your door accusing you of doing it on purpose.
The unit numbers on the doors were paper - when I moved in, I was told that very soon we would have real (I assume metal or something) unit number plates. As of move-out, they had only slightly upgraded the paper used.
I would get random calls from the front door call box, especially in the middle of the night.
The cops are there all the time.
People play music extremely loudly.
The street noise on 35th is atrocious. The only good thing about this is that it drowned out the sounds of my neighbors. Can't hear my neighbors if I can only hear loud vehicles 24 hours/day.
Power outages were common, though short.
When it was windy, I would hear the wind come through my stove.
Poorly insulated.
Often smells like weed.
Pretty much all of my appliances needed maintenance - over the span of 10 months. I got a new (to me) fridge, as well as a water heater. Maintenance was in my apartment so much, the guy practically lived there.
In addition to maintenance people, there were several random inspections.
There were two water heaters in my unit. One blew up and I got a new one. The other apparently was meant for the community washer. When the washer broke, I was accused of breaking it somehow. I never touched the thing.
W/S/G costs were astronomical.
No overhead light in the living room/dining room.
Drains were clogged when I moved in.
The toilet never worked properly.
The community washer/dryers were always broken, and when they did work, they didn't work well. Go down the street to the laundromat. Worth it.
Parking is a nightmare. In the garage, people take up two spots with one car (to be fair, the spots are tiny, but unless they are paying for two spots, this isn't ok). Plus, cars were broken into all the time. Street parking was tough - don't go anywhere on a Sunday and come back during church services - you will be parking many blocks away. And the loading zone in front of the building is always taken.
When I moved out, I was charged for broken blinds that were never broken. Wasn't worth the fight.
That's all I can think of for now. The relatively inexpensive rent isn't worth it.
