Pizzas By the Slice
Karen L.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: "I love Abbot's!" Saturday we stopped in about 6:00pm and ordered some slices to go. Service is very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed the Pepperoni slice and the BBQ Chicken slice. There isn't much ambience inside but the pizza more than makes up for that. We love Abbot's and will continue to order take out forever!

Stopped by here today for a quick bite to eat before going to a pop up elsewhere. I was eyeing the salad pizza, but went for buffalo chicken instead. I liked it and thought it was a solid slice of pizza. Didn't realize they were under new ownership and some older patrons are upset, but I will say there was still bagel crust today (another review said there wasn't). I enjoyed it so I think it's still worth checking out and maybe bugging the owner to bring back some classics.

The decor of this small pizza place that has slices is super fun. See the pics. Great signs too. And the service was friendly and fast. The pizza was surprisingly good. But I'm not sure I've ever paid $8ish for a slice of pepperoni pizza before, not even at a baseball game or in NYC. So I just got one. I was hungry and it was tasty. If you're walking by and craving pizza, grab a slice.

After learning yesterday of the demise of two of my fav LA restaurants, I wandered along Abbot Kinney for awhile and stopped in at Abbot's Pizza Company, a small take out joint with a window bar to sit that has been dishing out Pizza pies since 1995. That in Venice years, like dog years, or Dogtown years perhaps, is over 50 years old. I was glad it is still there as most of this street has changed over a number of times since the anchor tenant on this rough block in the day was The Brig. In 1952, local Venice boxing hero Babe Brandelli retired from boxing and opened "Babe Brandelli's Brig." For over 40 years, Babe and his descendents operated THE BRIG at its present location while living in the 2nd floor apartments above. A classic Mom & Pop neighborhood bar, THE BRIG was a local favorite for inexpensive alcohol served nearly all day and night. In later years it was a 'dive' for bikers and others attracted to such venues. As a teenager whenever I walked past The Brig, bodies were literally flying out the door and I witnessed more than one fist fight if that's what you would call someone punch drunk trying to throw punches. This Abbot Kinney shares nothing with the old nor the diceyness of Electric Avenue and around Abbot Kinney in the days before electricity when me and sabertooth tigers roamed Venice. If you don't believe me I've started a religion based on these facts. Begin here if you skipped the above: I ordered a Gluten Free Bianca- Red Onion, Fresh Sliced Tomato with Mozzarella, Parmesan & Ricotta, Basil and Garlic Pesto Sauce. They offer a 10" and 14" but no slices for GF pizza although the pizza man at the counter said that he gets lots of requests. My disease is becoming a movement. During my 20 minute wait for my Bianca Pérez-Mora Macías pie, I whiled away the time talking with a woman and her dog also salivating waiting for their pizza. Actually, I was the one salivating. We spoke of the intuitiveness and intelligence of dogs. By the way, has anyone since Ray Bolger actually whiled away the hour? I continued to walk now with my hot pie in hand stopping to take pics and on to my home where I devoured half of the pie which was absolutely delicious. I saved the other half for tomorrow. To be continued....

We really enjoyed the pizza, perfectly baked crust with a great balance of sauce and cheese. The toppings were fresh and flavorful

We really enjoyed the pizza, perfectly baked crust with a great balance of sauce and cheese. The toppings were fresh and flavorful, especially the pepperoni with a nice garlic kick. Simple, classic, and done right

One of my favorite go-to spot for my lunch, the pizza here is great! I've tried the Half a Pina and Salad Pizza. Both very different but great options. Highly recommend the everything crust and the hot sauce. Staff is super chill too, the ambiance is welcoming and a good spot for people watching.

The kind of pizza that's premade-they store it in a clear box, you choose your pizza and they then heat it or finish cooking it in the oven. That's not my favorite style.. Restaurant is cool and seems to have a pretty good following.. Just not my thing..

Oh salad pizza... time may pass but you stay exceptional.. Selvin and the cocineros are always kind and helpful

Spent over $100 for two pizzas cooked like this. What the hell happened to this place?

I never minded spending more on pizza from Abbotts because the quality was going to be there. It was different and delicious. But that's now gone. New ownership. Poorly prepared. Smaller pies. Less toppings. Burnt. Expensive. My whole family is soooo disappointed. Feeling burned (see my photo) another local who won't be back.

Ospi is a bit more Americanized, and they do that very well. Spacious and gets crowded, so a reservation is a good idea. Fun cocktails and a variety of wines to choose from, if you're so inclined. The Chef's Negroni is a soothing, smoky and somewhat sweet cocktail that starts with cathedral mezcal. I loved it. We ordered a several dishes - and let's start by saying you must try the ricotta. 'Whipped cheese, sea salt' does not do it justice, but it's wonderful and perfect to share. The Beef Tartare is another winner, served with crispy potato and parm. It's pretty huge, and rich, and conveniently cut into pieces for easy sharing. The crunch potato chips on top are a nice finish. A creative take on a classic, purists might wonder what's going on, until they taste it. The Caesar is huge and great to share, too, as well as the Crispy Rhode Island Calamari. These are more in the department of comfortable staples, but are delicious crowdpleasers, nonetheless. Of the entrees we ordered, everyone seemed to like mine the most: Malloreddus (bbef cheek, ragu napoletano, thyme, toscano). It sounded a bit quirky, but inviting. The server gave it a bit thumbs up, so I'm glad to have ventured this way. Served over the small pasta pieces that you can watch being made closer to the front of the restaurant. The Lemon Tagliolini features lobster 'fry diavolo', basil and pistachio. Not too spicy, and the lobster and pasta were perfectly cooked. The cannelloni was perhaps the one entree that, while good, did not rise above 'just fine'. Perhaps the flavors were a bit toned down that night, or maybe overwhelmed by the gorgeous Sorrentina blanket of mozzarella, tomato sauce and basil. Dessert was good, and the DIY affogato was delicious. Noteworthy service, and a friendly sometimes boisterous energy in the restaurant help make for a fun dining experience.

Next was Copione pizza with a super thin crust and beautifully balanced sauce. Spicy Rigatoni was not spicy at all but delicious. I was a little disappointed by the Breakfast carbonara. Poached egg on top of the pasta is not the best choice. Overall our experience was great and we will definitely go back if we are in the area.

The place is small so if you want to do a walk in be prepared to wait, but the wait is honestly so random. One time I got in 25 minutes later and next time 45 minutes. First time, I got takeout and was honestly disappointed. The pizza got cold during the 12 minute walk back to my apartment and it just didn't hit the same because it wasn't fresh. Second time, we did a walk-in on a Sunday and somehow got really lucky. Waited about 20 minutes at a nearby coffee shop because of cancellations. We got the Margherita special and Ruti's pizza, and both were out of this world. Especially the Margherita special... this is hands down my favorite pizza i've tried in LA. I tend to gravitate toward classic flavors and they did everything right with this one. The crust alone... probably the best Neapolitan dough I've had in my life. It's pillowy, soft, slightly chewy, and just has that perfect structure. Only thing to note is their pizzas are VERY floppy. Like... really floppy. So if that's not your thing, you might not love it as much. Ruti's pizza is a white base with soppressata, fresh arugula, and hot honey. The sweet and spicy combo worked really well, super balanced and not overwhelming. We also got the tricolor salad which was a great starter. Very fresh, bright, and tangy from the lemon dressing. It cuts through the heaviness of the pizza perfectly. Third time, we did another walk-in on a Saturday around 2:30 PM and got seated within 30 minutes. At this point I'm convinced I just have good luck with the wait times!! We ordered the mala lamb sausage, diavola, bianca, and tiramisu. My favorite this time was the bianca. It was lighter and acted as a really nice palate cleanser between the heavier pizzas. You can actually taste the lemon in it, which surprisingly I loved on pizza. Only thing is you have to eat it fast because once it cools down, the cheese solidifies pretty quickly. The mala lamb sausage is definitely a crowd favorite, but not my personal favorite.... It leans heavier and the lamb flavor comes through pretty strong. If you like bold flavors you'll probably love it, but I personally prefer something more classic and clean like the margherita or the bianca. The diavola was solid. The soppressata brought the right amount of spice and everything felt really balanced. And the tiramisu... I will always get this if I have room for dessert. It's a good portion size!! The three of us shared it after already eating three pizzas (and still had 3 slices leftover) and we were completely stuffed. I would come back again for the Margherita special and the tiramisu alone.

They also provided anchovies on the side for the Cesar salad. https://www.50toppizza.it/referenza/pizzeria-sei-3/

Appetizers: Focaccia (sfincione) - 5/10 (GF rating 4/10) Super greasy, like, very. Make sure to ask for extra olive oil on the side, as that does make it better as they do have delicious olive oil. The bread seems like it's also cooked in olive oil, but frankly if they made their bread and had olive oil on the side it would've been much better. The bread itself though, ugh that whole bottom was wet in oil. Super unfortunate. Solid but oily as heck. Rice Croquettes (suppli in Bianco) - 5/10 (GF rating 2/10) Forgettable. Nothing special, no sauce paired with it. They're mediocre. I wouldn't get this again. Mains: Lamb Ragu (malloreddus) - 9/10 (GF rating 7.5/10) Extremely tasty. Pasta was very well cooked, lamb meat was perfect, as goes for the cheese on top and the sauce. Amazing meal. Would've been far better without having the subpar appetizers beforehand. Cheese and pepper pasta (cacio e Pepe) - 5/10 (GF rating 6.5/10) Non meat pastas aren't my thing, so take my rating with a grain of salt, as I would never get this myself. Girlfriend thought it was wayyyy too peppery, but that the pasta were cooked very well). Dessert: Panna Cotta - READ BELOW The panna cotta as a whole - disgusting. Jam on top was awfully bitter, quite literally inedible. The crouton like things were whatever. The panna cotta itself, as in only the white part, VERY good. After painstakingly doing our best to scrape off the jam, we were able to get to the base, and that itself tasted great (bar getting even a hint of the syrupy jam flowing into your bite). Service was fine. Didn't care for the ambiance.
