This place is full of home and kitchen decoration things. Picture frames, pots and pans, kitchen towels, clocks, monocles, velocipedes. It's decent stuff. No Octopus, but alright just the same. I'd definitely go here for some good kitchen basics if my apartment was feeling a bit bare. Fortunately my apartment likes to wear its clothing - wool sweaters and long johns and jeans to be exact. There's also some things here which would work well as gifts. Anyone seen those chicken nuggets? Anyone? I've got to go find them.

Homebase is situated out of town, on a small complex with a few other shops. Its a very large…read morestore, with two floors. The downstairs floor is full of home decorating, from paints and wallpaper, to light fittings and furniture. There is a greenhouse type room off to one side where you can get all your gardening needs, including compost and plants. There are big trolleys available to put all the heavier stuff on which come in very handy! Upstairs is where all the bathrooms and kitchens are, there are numerous displays available to view, and the prices are reasonable too. There are always plenty of staff around to help, and most of them are pretty useful and helpful too. There are a number of tills, but Homebase always tends to get very busy on weekend, especially if there is a 10% event going on. There is ample parking, with Homebase sharing a big carpark with two other stores.

Going in there for a specific item is pointless. the only thing that we did find was some nice tiles. They do have some nice garden furniture on display in the summer, and quite a nice christmas range in winter. The fencing section is not too bad and the plant range is ok as well. The plumbing and electrical sections are limited. We did manage to buy a nice front door here for a good price though, so i think its one of the places you need to persevere with! To be fair it is not one of the larger stores so this could be why i never find what i want!

Now after all these years my kids go here to buy me presents for bithdays and christmas shows how times have changed but some things just stay the same. Obviously the items for sale have moved on with the times, they just sell quirky pieces that are not the same as everywhere else. They are a much more personal present something a little different. The staff are friendly and helpfull and will wrap items if you need them done too. There are a couple of steps in the shop but if you have a buggy they jump to help before you could even think of asking. A great place to buy that extra speacial gift.

With a little bit of money, I could go wild in here and come back with a copper owl statue (40 pounds), a few angels, and a marble column. We went specifically to get a plum tree. We got a lovely shaped specimen and were given good advice about planting and pruning. The chap we were speaking to also recommended a couple of jasmines and we bought a few annuals too. He kindly tied up the tree and helped us into the car with it. The creepers and tree have really taken hold in our garden, thanks to the good advice, and are growing nicely this year. We're hoping to make another trip out to Thompsons later this summer.
