I purchased a pack of Newport cigarettes from AB Liquors ten minutes ago. I exited the store and smoked one immediately just outside the door. The cigarettes were stale. I reentered the store to exchange/return them for a fresh pack. The counter person immediately got defensive and raised his voice at me, saying that he wouldn't accept them back--that because they were cigarettes, there was nothing he would do. He refused to exchange OR return my money. He lied and said he was the owner, and would not give me his name. He is NOT the owner. The experience left me reeling. It was horrible how he performed, and I want to make sure whoever the owner is that they know how customers are being treated. I was calm and collected. But he seemed to be wanting to incite an incident. At one point he just turned his head and ignored me and wouldn't speak any further. I left the store. It's a damn shame. read more

This place is maybe a 10 minute walk from my house, And as a new transplant to DC, it's been surprising you can only buy liquor at "liquor stores", and not any old CVS or grocery store....at 6 am if you want to no less. Anyway, I was very happy to find this place! The owner is always all smiles, helpful, and polite - and doesn't judge this polish girl for buying her jug of vodka when needed. Great selection of beer, wine and liquor, and Hubert, the owner, will help you select something if you aren't quite sure what you are looking for. Someone tanked the score in their rating because he was carded - come on, this is a family owned business and if they get busted selling to underage patrons they can lose their livelihood. There is no insult in it if you get carded, as it is the law and they just are trying to comply. If you are 28 but look 20, take it as a compliment and quit complaining if someone double checks your ID. read more

I know this because I was searching for a very specific single malt, called AB Liquors, and, after some searching, the owner called me back and let me know that, although it wasn't in stock, he had ordered some more, and that out should arrive in two days. This place is a great neighborhood liquor store -- it has a great selection of specialty beer and they always have some sort of sample. I can't say that I really drink anything other than beer but they do have a heck of a selection for a neighborhood liquor store. Only three stars because of the high prices. read more

This is my neighborhood liquor store. It's a bit cheaper than the other store down on Florida Ave and the owner and employee I always see, are very nice and always helpful. I tend to have a hard time decided what I want to drink whenever I'm there and he's always patient and helps to answer any questions/ give suggestions. I recommend! read more

They have a great selection and have always had in stock specific things I've asked for (e.g., Blanton's bourbon, when other specialty shops were all out). Went here earlier to look at a $300 bottle of Japanese whiskey. The Asian guy with glasses behind the counter gave it to me. He opened it up and I took a look at it. While examining it, he took the bottle, put it back in the box and the shelf. The box was damaged and the bottle normally comes with a tag tied around its bottle. I asked him about it and see if he had another bottle. He told me that he doesn't know about any tag and that the bottle is authentic. For a liquor store owner, I'm sure he's sold many of these bottles before they started to become rare (which is recent). So when he rudely told me that he doesn't know about any tag and basically called me a liar about a tag--that bothered me, so I left. I've bought a few of these bottles before. They are hard to find, so I try to snatch them up when they are reasonably priced. The fact was, I was going to get the bottle anyways, but his terrible customer service changed my mind. He might have been defensive because I was examining the bottle. I'm sure if you're buying a $300 bottle, you would examine as well...but that doesn't give you any rights to speak rudely to your customer when the customer is calmly speaking to you and asking you questions. The guys at AB are sweethearts. Although they can be difficult when you're haggering over the price of a keg or three, they've given you a bum tap, or they sold one of the kegs you reserved, overall it's obvious that they mean well. With a great wine selection, a pretty standard selection of six packs and keg beer, and AB's rockstar location between blockbuster and Starbucks on Columbia makes it pretty sweet. read more

My first Yelp review is dedicated to AB Liquor Store and the Asian dude with glasses behind the counter. Star off for prices being a bit on the high side, but it's not all that bad. Sometimes you pay for convenience, and being right in the middle of AdMo, that's what you get. Now the Asian dude with glasses - I've been here only a few times, but each time, this cool guy happily serves me, rings me up, and I'm turning away to leave when he suddenly becomes concerned that I might be underage. "Are you 21? Hey, are you 21?" (very concerned look on his face). Hey genius, if you're so concerned, why didn't you just card me? Did I suddenly become more youthful looking between the time I walked in, shopped, you rung me up and when I turned away to leave? Save the awkward moment where you think you just sold booze to an underage dude and just card people, man. I have a feeling he does this to a lot of people. Should I be flattered, by the way? I'm in my mid-late 20s. For guys at this point, I don't think it's a compliment that I come off as under 21. So one star docked for insulting me, bro! read more

This store is very conveniently located in Adam's Morgan and really for being so limited in options, I am surprised this place is so great. The little Asian man who I think owns the store really knows his booze and is very very friendly. In spite of the few not so savory wanders that come into this place, I'd have to say its really so much better than you'd expect and it's well worth spending your liquor money in. read more

Honesly i had worked at this store for a year between 2009 to 2010. They had 800 kind of wines and 500 kind of liquors. Especially about beers!! I remember they had special collection of beers each time, which you cant buy easily at any other store: I have 7 years experience about liquor store, but I cant find the that beers(the special beers) at other store. If you want to buy valuable collection beers or rare stuff which product at special event days only, they must have. I remember the boss was so much nice and had soft personality; I left this store, but HE IS STILL MY BEST BOOS EVER. He was smart. oh!!! one more thing. he has great attitude for old people and lady. if you can't carry your stuff, they will delivery in side of house; if you want; it is totaly free. he loves help people. I learned wine from him; even i had 4 year experien, he knew much more.: remember a thing that his one of wine dealer was so much famous cook, so when he buy wines from dealer, they had small meeting about wines for trend of cook. Ask any question to him if you don't know about wine or need something special wine. he has more non-displayed wines at behind. reason why leave a review like this because he was my best boss ever when i worked at there, was best expert wine and beer sales, and i wanted provide more infos that customers can't know. read more

This place always has whatever my latest strange request is. This year it was organic vodka made in the U.S., a single malt scotch that could compete w Lagavulin 16, and an elderberry liqueur called St Germaine. No problem, AB has it all. I should add that the owner is a nice guy who knows a lot about scotch/whiskey and, as long as it's not too busy, is happy to educate and chat w customers. Oh yeah, he carries Rangpur gin too. Surprisingly good neighborhood liquor store. Great selection of Scotch and other hard liquors, including some hard-to-find stuff. Wine is hit or miss: he seems to carry a lot more reds than whites. The California wines are, by in large, outrageously overpriced, but you can get some great deals in the European and Oregon areas if you know what you're doing. The guy who owns it is nice and very knowledgeable, if you can get him to pay attention to you (I think he really prefers to watch soccer). read more

Ahhhh, Mr. Khang... The *perfect* neighborhood liquor store; convenient, well stocked (a surprisingly good selection of sake, actually), good price point; and most importantly, the service and friendly attitude. ALWAYS a nice word, plus the added bonus of the great soundtrack (it may be anything from a Nats game to Lady Gaga). My only complaint is that he closes at 9 Sun-Thu instead of 10.
