If you want to learn Ashtanga, this is a great place to learn…read more I was first introduced to Yoga in 2005. I practiced vinyasa yoga at Satsang Yoga Studio in Westfield and really enjoyed going there. I stopped practicing yoga for a few years and exercised at the gym and at home. Unfortunately it was hard to stay motivated at home and the gym became expensive and uninviting for me. (Not a big fan of workout machines and people who grunt/slam weights down.) I always had a love for yoga and after a recommendation from my cousin, I signed myself up for the Intro. series in September of 2014. Ashtanga comprises of a series of poses done in order linked together by breath. Classes here are "Mysore Style", you do your practice at your own pace while a teacher assists you if necessary. I learned a lot from the Intro. series and was eager to begin learning more of the Primary series. When I first started, I was kind of nervous about practicing on my own; I'd always followed the instruction of a teacher! But after several weeks, I gained more confidence and got used to self practice. Just like with anything, it takes time, patience, and a lot of breathing to progress in your practice. Sometimes I forget a pose (oops!) especially if my mind is on wandering mode, but I just try to focus and get it right next time. I am very happy with my yoga practice and am thankful for Alissa and Sonya for being great teachers.

Nice straight forward ashtanga yoga place in a neighborhood in highland park…read more We escaped the big city and stopped here for a morning Mysore class. It was good there were only 8 people I think so Alissa , the teacher had time to assist everybody. I like hands on assist and in certain poses she asked me if I would like to be assisted, that's great too, I don't want anybody to grab and twist just out of the blue. Before our drop in, that was 17$ ( good price), she asked aswell if we had any injuries. The studio is one room and they keep the temperature nice. It was kind of odd that a few people started doing 2 nd series that didn't seem to have primary completed, but that's probably only because my teachers don't encourage that. I m for sure happy that we found this place and gladly return when I m in the area!

I came across Your Shakti, and with Bhumika's help, I was able to control my condition significantly. She created an oil blend and a salve for me to apply topically, which over time smoothed out the "scarring" and lesions on my scalp. I even began to regain pigmentation. After a successful consultations regarding my skin conditions, I began taking Yoga classes taught by Bhumika. Her knowledge of yoga along with her calm composure has really helped me relax, not only physically, but mentally as well. I recommend Your Shakti to anyone suffering from health issues or even anything simply interested in bettering their health!

I felt I was too young for knee surgery so I tried the oils from your Shakti. Within 2 weeks, I felt like they were getting better and in 2 months, I was able to run again without pain. It was pretty incredible. Since then, I've been doing aroma therapy to focus at work or relax at home and replaced synthetic vitamins with all natural herbs to supplement my diet. This place has definitely improved my quality of life since I started about a year ago. Give it a shot. Well worth it.

Yogis in the Central NJ area- Avoid this place at all costs!! The owner of this place is running a…read morescam! Where to start? Well, after my previous studio closed down, I tried this place out (May 2012). I saw they had an unlimited package for beginners, as well as first time drop in rates ($5 off first class). I asked to sign up for the unlimited packed, and handed her my credit card. Refused to run my card, said sometimes the machine was charging people 3x the amount they paid... I appreciated her honesty. Said the next time I came in I could pay her. The class began, and we had NO warm up stretch, and started having us do "work outs" like one would see at the gym. We spent a good portion of the class up against the wall, passing a medicine ball back and fourth to each other. While this wasn't exactly yoga (or Pilates for that matter) I was still being active and kept participating. I was starting to get slightly annoyed with the instructor after every couple of minutes she would stop the class for "water breaks" after not even having broke a sweat. She also had a jar of Charms hard candies out for people to munch on to keep their "blood sugar up". I found this to be rather strange, and slightly insulting. I have taken many yoga, Pilates, and aerobic classes and never once was the class stopped for a candy break. Perhaps when I go hiking for hours at a time I will bring a snack- or even a long bike ride- but a 60 min yoga class?? Anyway, I also had a difficult time concentrating on listening to my body, because the whole time there was a class discussion about what everyone did on their weekend. I felt like i was sitting around with a bunch of women chatting about our lives at happy hour or something- the instructor (also the owner) not only allowed the class to be run this way, but participated. There was no motivating the people, nor keeping awareness of our breath- it was absolutely a mess! About 20 mins into the class I realized this woman had no business teaching a class and calling it "yoga" or "Pilates" (since the website claims she does both)... and honestly EVEN an aerobic class. I try to remain a holistic person, and not judge- but I also can't help but note how completely out of shape she was (borderline obese) ...the candy, the constant chatting and lack of motivation- really makes me think she is NOT qualified to be teaching anyone about their mind, body or soul. It also makes me upset to think of the woman who were there, who are being completely misguided and scammed. I have traveled all over the country, and always check out new yoga studios during my travels, and have never experienced anything like this. I ended up going home and having to spend a long time stretching as to not injure my body- because of her lack of care to do poses (or anything for that matter) properly. To add more evidence of the owners shady ways- she contacted me yesterday via email stating I owe her $15 for the class I took 6 months ago. She threatened that if I don't pay her in one week- she will send my "account into collections". I was pretty shocked by her accusation of me being a "thief" and the nasty tone of her email. Perhaps her studio is not doing so well, and is hard up for the cash. I mentioned how unsatisfactory her class was, and that if I had paid (which I tried to do) that I would have asked for my money back. I also stated that by law, I am entitled to a written request for payment and a turnaround time of 30 days. I asked that she do not contact me via email for any more legal matters (which she did anyway... saying how "impressed" she was of my knowledge of law, and told me to look up "theft law"............) FYI- had I used my first time drop in coupon, the charge would be only $10. This woman is now threatening to try and ruin my credit for $10. I plan to get the word out about the practice she is running, and hope that those looking to make real health changes to their lives look elsewhere. There are some great studios in the area (which actually cost less) and really take the time to assist with your growth. Check out Sakula Yoga in Metuchen as well as Soma Center Yoga in Highland Park. The people who run and teach classes there are professionals, and treat their customers with respect.
