I was the least likely candidate for becoming a practitioner of meditation until I came to Harmony…read moreMeditation center. In the old days, five minute relaxation after a vigorous power yoga class felt like an elaborate torture on most days. Even so, I did experience powerful feelings of unity and opennes, albeit rather infrequently - twice in many years of yoga practice. With continuous meditation and Taichi practice, as well as loving and patient guidance of the center manager, grandmaster Johwa, I was able to switch from a judgmental restless mind to deeper and brighter levels of harmony, joy, and peace. Powerful (and gentle) spiritual and energy experiences became a new norm in my life, almost daily. I have finally understood and experienced why meditation is the most direct and effective way to improve quality of life. Just like any new endeavor, in the beginning it may not be easy, but once a habit of deeper breathing and awareness develops, it carries out naturally to all areas of life, making it so much freer and enjoyable.

I got a groupon (or maybe living social) deal and hauled my butt out to Bensalem for this. Don't be scared by the strip-mall store front - the inside space is very nice. And did I mention how kind and gentle the women is who does the treatments? I got oiled up by what seemed like a gallon of oils, then massaged and 'whumped' a little bit with an herb-filled bag. I use the word 'whumped' because its hard to describe the sensation of being gently beaten with what looks like a giant tea bag! - look at the website to see what I mean. The whole thing finishing off with a relax in your own private steam bath in the room. Then you get tea and snacks. It was worth what I paid for it ($99) but might be a bit overpriced at the 'original' price, which I think was closer to $199. In any case worth a trip - I did feel pretty blissful the next couple of days and my skin was positiively glowing.

When I called to book my appointment, Cheryl provided instructions on what to expect and things to do/ not do prior to the session. When I arrived, we briefly went over my wellness intake form in which she certain lifestyle questions and about current challenges. She was patient with me and helped me feel comfortable. Since I didn't really know how reiki works, she explained that energy moves through the chakras and she explained the function of each chakra. I found it very interesting. I personally really liked that Cheryl incorporated spirituality but she made it clear that this was, of course, optional and only to the extent I felt comfortable. The session was an hour long. She started to with some guided imagery for grounding then called on her spirit guides and angels to assist. I'm not normally super "woo woo" but I went in really open minded and I think that allowed me to get the full benefit. I could actually feel in my body as she was working the energy responding and moving around. She explained that you sometimes have temperature changes in response. The whole time this happened I felt relaxed and I was just trusting in the process. Once we were done, she had me do some quick grounding again. Cheryls also a life coach, so at the end of the session, she provided some tips on how I can get my chakras more in balance. This was really valuable for me and helped tie everything together. At the end, I felt noticeably lighter and more open. It was really profound and I couldn't believe the progress after just one session.
