Aalam Frisco: A Shameful Decline in Customer Service After five years of loyalty to Aalam in Frisco -- including both my wife and daughter regularly getting their hair done there -- we are officially done with this salon. Today, my wife had to cancel her appointment due to illness in our home. Out of consideration for others, she chose not to risk bringing potential strep into the salon. Instead of receiving understanding or professionalism in return, she was met with a condescending call from someone who wasn't even a manager, telling her she would now have to prepay for all future appointments because she's canceled three times... in five years. Seriously? Three cancellations in five years -- one of which was to protect your staff and guests -- and this is how you treat longtime clients? There was no courtesy. No empathy. No professionalism. Just a cold policy delivered without tact or respect. A manager couldn't even be bothered to pick up the phone. Aalam has now lost both my wife and daughter's business. We'll be spreading the word. There are plenty of salons in Frisco that know how to treat people right -- and many of them are more affordable, too. Save your time, your money, and your dignity. Go elsewhere. read more

I had an issue that came up and was upset about something that happened, but the manager/owner came up as I was discussing the problem with the receptionist, and before I could even finish my sentence about being upset, he immediately said "I'm so sorry, no problem, we will take care of it." And absolutely made things right. This is hands down wonderful customer service. Issues come up in any business, but how they are handled is the mark of a good business. I switched colorists and started seeing Zuzana last year and I could not be happier! She took my dry brittle platinum blond to a healthy more natural blond and low light combination. Zuzana is super friendly and an expert in her field. I have had a hair cut by Odessa and she also did a wonderful job. I have also had my make-up done there and I loved the way I looked! I came in for a color correction, haven't been to a salon in over 2 years since I have been growing my hair out from an extremely damaged and uneven combination of a chemically burned pixie-bob to now a much more healthy and longer armpit length style. Unfortunately I made the mistake of dyeing my hair black and trying to correct it on my own, which left it bright red at the roots and still black everywhere else. Michael did a phenomenal job and was able to get me to a beautiful medium brown color with no signs of damage, and Mansour cut and shaped my hair better than I've seen it in a very long time, and retained most of my length as I requested. I was pretty quiet because I am very emotional about my hair after the long journey it has taken to try to grow it longer and healthy again, I was shaken up and so worried the whole time at the salon, but after I left and looked at it on my own I have been SO happy! THIS Salon is incredible. The staff are wonderful and I can always get a quick appointment, usually week of. I have long, thick/coarse, curly/wavy hair and let me tell you these hair stylists KNOW how to cut/style hair. I always look forward to the shampoo. They usually throw in this amazing scalp/head/neck massage and it is just an overall relaxing experience. The salon itself is so beautiful. I may be partial but Odessa is the BOMB!!!! I arrived for my appointment with Odessa. I have been seeing her mainly, when I come and have been very satisfied. I was told I did not have a appointment with anyone. I drove 2 hours. We never did figure out what happened exactly. The receptionist was so kind. She went to get Mansour, he was so concerned and immediately went about to figure out what to do. Odessa was booked and could not do my hair said she was sorry. No problem, he said he could do my hair if I didn't care. I was totally taken over and treated very well, shampooed, head massaged, a beautiful hair cut; and $60.00 discount. These people have the best customer service, make you feel special. So, I'm torn about writing this review. First, Zuzana is an AMAZING colorist!! AMAZING!! I loved to Texas and spent hours looking for a salon and a colorist I liked. I finally discovered Zuzana and she is truly amazing. She does an amazing job on my hair. She's friendly. Just such a great human. Loved having her as my colorist. She was incredibly helpful and informative. The second time I had her do my hair, she was super busy and the receptionist ended up blow drying my hair. It was an awful experience. AWFUL. She did an awful job blow drying. It was a cluster...you know what. I was very unhappy by the time I left. I've called a number of times and I've been told they were busy and "had to call me back" only to be called back the next day. seriously? Their customer service is terrible. The last time, Zuzana was on maternity leave and another girl colored my hair (second time this girl colored my hair) she colored the roots one color - red and the rest another color -black. I was obviously upset and I spoke to the owner about it. He blamed Zuzana saying she must have put it in the system incorrectly. Btw- easy to blame the experienced colorist who isn't there. No, it wasn't Zuzana. Zuzana had it in the system correctly because she was pregnant and she wanted to make certain that my hair would be done correctly when she was on leave. He then told me "there's no guarantee" that my hair would be fixed back to the color it was when Zuzana did it. Huh?! They were going to fix my hair at no charge but I had a biopsy which took longer to recoup from so I had to cancel. Then when I called to have my hair fixed I was once again told they would have to call me back because the receptionist needed to talk to the owner. That was the last straw. I love Zuzana. But I refuse to give AALMA owners (who are at the Frisco location) my money when they seriously don't care about their clients. They obviously don't care about their employees based on how they threw Zuzana under the bus. They don't invest themselves whatsoever in those who walk in their doors. read more

First off Heather at front desk is AMAZING! I walk in and she automatically greets me. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I came in to do my highlights with Atieh and she made Me look absolutely gorgeous. I showed her a photo of what I wanted then she started on my hair..... the whole process took a couple hours. Lilian cut my hair after Atieh did the toner. after the cut, Lilian curled my hair and made me feel like a brand new person! If you are looking for a high-standard place THIS PLACE IS A MUST!!!! Beautiful salon. I have come here now a total of 3 times. I saw Odessa and she did a lovely job. Today, they accommodated a same day for an appointment at 1 pm with a different stylist. I didn't mind when they said the stylist was running slightly late, because I was a last minute appointment. At 1:30 I was finally in the chair for a cut. My real issue was with my haircut, and when I asked for sweeping curtain bangs she gave me a limp cut with the two sections near the front of my face. I asked for layers throughout, but all I see are choppy ends. And the cherry on top is the length of hair. I understand she needed to cut some length off but when she kept going back to cut the back of my hair I knew that I was walking out with much shorter hair than I requested. I am extremely disappointed with this latest cut and I won't be returning to see her again. I can't trust anyone else at this salon besides Odessa. Edit: I spoke with the front desk who were extremely kind and understood my frustrations. All I asked was to voice my experience and I'm happy with the resolution so far. I booked an appointment online/same day and was lucky enough to schedule a blow out. I wasn't specific (any stylist) but I got lucky and was scheduled with Crystal. Let me say these salons which specialize in Blow Outs should do themselves a favor and visit this salon to see how it SHOULD be done! From the warmed towels, the shampoo bowls and spray faucets (yes I'm goin' there) the Keratase products used, this is the nicest salon I've experienced and it was no more pricey than those other locations. I quickly came to realize that most of the not feeling welcome was probably myself! Because the minute I stepped in the door today at the salon I was welcomed with open arms and happy faces!!!! I had recently gone to a different salon in Fort Worth to color my hair and cut it and at Nova... Fort Worth salon, they not only fried my hair but cut it worse than a two-year-old would and try to make me pay $275!!! I thought my hair was hopeless because it was fried... but when I came here they were so nice so understanding she treated my hair and cut it like no other! I am SO HAPPY!! If I could put 20 stars on here I would just to show my appreciation!! I honestly thought I would have to shave my hair, but my hairdresser worked with me she was amazing and I cannot be happier!! After my stylist of several years, retired, I went on the hunt for a new stylist and came across Aalam. I read reviews and looked at pictures on their instagram account, which showed before/after pictures, I was impressed! Sherry did my color and her confidence in applying color was apparent. I was happy with my color and think she did a great job. After color, I headed to Mansour for my cut. He listened to what I wanted and was so kind. As soon as he started cutting, I knew my hair was in the hands of a pro. I have a feeling my hair may make it to their before/after pictures, because it was such a huge difference! I never shared my experience here because at the time I think I was too emotional about it, but I am ready now. So I used to go to there sister salon in Plano. There was a gentleman there that would wash me, blow dry and trim my hair. I am African American so I never had him press it because I didn't want to overwhelm him. Nevertheless, the services he provided were good! Well he left and I needed a trim so I booked at the Frisco location because they had the first available appointment. I called in advance and specifically told them I am African American and asked do they have a stylist that feels comfortable doing my hair. I always call because I get that most stylist that are not black do not feel comfortable with our hair and although most black stylist can do hair for all races, it's not reciprocated and I accept that. That's why I get a wash, blow dry and trim and leave it at that. So I go into the appointment I sit down in the chair and I see a lady peeking from the other side. Finally, she comes over and I tell her what I need. She walks me to the shampoo bowl at the back of the salon and tells me she will be right back. I see her go talk to a man and then he comes over and introduces himself as the manager and tells me that the stylist just did someone's hair that was "like mine" and it took her 3 hours and that she had another client soon and I would have to pay closer to $300 for a shampoo blow dry and trim. Mind you, that as I walked in all eyes were on me I'm assuming because I was darker than there typical client and as the manager is talking to me at the wash bowl, everyone is just staring. I have NEVER been so embarrassed in my life. I have never felt the weight of being African American like I did on this day. So I have to leave the washbowl, walk back past the lookey loos that were already staring and out the door because the young lady basically didn't want to service my kind. I literally went to the car and she a tear because I was so upset that they played me. (I know I really played myself by trying to go to this salon in the first place but I was newer to the area and this is Frisco, not a lot of options). I have since found other stylist that can do hair "like mine" like Born2B Natural. It doesn't take them 3 hours or cost three hundred dollars. This experience was awful, the hairstylist that walked me to the bowl to go get her manager instead of having a conversation with me upfront was awful and the manager that let her treat me this way was awful. They are lucky I didn't sue them for discriminatory practices. read more

I have been getting my hair cut at AALAM since their doors first opened in Collin county. Mansour (SP) is my stylist and takes the time to deliver a 5 star cut. I have always been a patron at the location in Plano, but the new location is easy to locate right off of the tollway. They have a nice sized dry bar for women, and a wonderful selection of product as well. If you've recently relocated to the area and need a salon, I highly suggest AALAM. The most professional, skilled, personnel work at AALAM The Salon. The reason I decided to try Aalam is that I saw amazing photos of actual customers online and knew those people could do hair! It took me almost a week, and two hair washings to decide to post this review. My hair looked GREAT every time I woke up in the morning. Really nice, not all messed up. The first time I washed my hair, I blew dry and went to bed. I can't believe my hair looked so great upon waking in the morning. Then, a few days later, I washed my hair, used some product and let it air dry for the messy, wavey bob I really wanted. AMAZING! This is what you get from a truly masterful haircut, a dummy (myself) can style it and my hair looks fantastic, fashionable, and most of all, it's easy to care for. And the color...Crystal performed a gorgeous ombré, teasing the highlights in and chose the prettiest toner to enhance the color of my complexion. She also has astute listening skills because I said I wanted highlights that will look great when I pull my hair away from my face with a small ponytail at the gym. And she accomplished this task with a talented skill, I've not before experienced. She's a true master at her craft! I have booked aappointment for global colour and partial highlights but don't know for what reason they have done only partial highlights... but Sherry has done only highlight, I liked it however would have been more satisfied and happy if she had done complete job which I requested..
