I go in with my 2 friends and we are browsing because we were waiting for the bus and had time to spare. We notice the bag policy so we place the bags behind the counter since we didn't have backpacks. First off, everything is closed off. Then that's when things start, they act as if they're stocking shelves or taking business calls but actually they're just following you. I'm all for catching shoplifters but they go to EXTREME lengths to catch people trying to steal. Honestly it's very weird and I don't know if they were profiling us but if they were that's a separate issue. We were going to buy something but as soon as we noticed they were pro trump and maga, everything made sense, so we just put everything back and grabbed our belongings and left. I haven't been in this store in years! It was quite nostalgic. The signage outside can use an upgrade. No longer the bright green and pink that used to catch your eye. But it was wonderful to stop by. We were surprised we were able to find a few items on sale. The workers seemed quite but pleasant. I found a USC body pillow case for $2.99 (which makes sense, since this area is UCLA), a cute Office mini backpack on sale $6.99, and Chibi Naruto pajama pants for $9.99. Not to many stores around sell POKEMON cars this has been my spot since before the pandemic as a collector I was cool when they put a limit on how many packs you could buy in a single day and they charged regular price that packs go for @4.99 now they quadruple the price on some of them to 13.99 a single pack and other packs that go for $20 are $75 I walk in all the time and check them out but can't afford a pack and lunch at the same price. This store has really gone downhill. I visited around 4 years ago, and there was a great selection and the workers were helpful. Today, I visited with my partner to look around. We were immediately yelled at by the employees to "be careful". They proceeded to follow us around the store, giving unhelpful comments about our choices. Basically I felt like we were being stalked and judged the entire duration of my visit. They seemed extremely suspicious and rude towards us, for the few minutes we walked around. We didn't even have any bags to steal things in. We opted against purchasing anything because of the staff's poor and obnoxious attitude. This store used to be better, more merchandise, decent selection and quality for a fun gift. We stopped by to browse for a holiday gift and the store was lacking merchandise, whatever was on display wasn't particular decent, it was dissappointing. I used to love going here for costumes for the holidays, but the manager/owners are so rude! I don't know if the ownership has changed, but I have been going here for 13 years and the people were so nice. The young cashier was a sweetheart and the older man at the door was very helpful as well, but the older short ladies were mean and following me everywhere like I was going to steal a costume or something smh. And they constantly yelled at the young cashier in front of customers. I was about to spend about $200 in there on costumes, but I couldn't take the rudeness of the managers. There's a lot of stuff here that nobody really needs minus the totally cool greeting cards BUT it's still fun to browse with the strict stipulation stay within budget! As we passed by Aahs, hubby said, "I bet you'd find those straws here." "Here? I don't think so. Let's go to that high-end kitchen/gadget store three blocks north." "OK, but..." "Oh, come on, this store will have those straws." "Wanna get a slice of pizza on the way back from not finding what you're looking for?" "Sure, whatever..." Long story short, found metal straws for a BFF (sold) but not the variety in line with budget for others on my list. Stopped at Aahs, was immediately greeted, explained the search and while we browsed, that totally pleasant, savvy sales associate, found us, led us to the housewares department where lo and behold there were packages of affordable, reusable, dishwasher safe straight and flex glass straws complete with cleaning brush. SOLD! I bought six to gift four with two in case I forgot someone. 20% off entire purchase with Yelp Check-In, does NOT include electronics. We walk into Westwood Village because parking is a challenge to say the least; good luck finding a meter. But if you don't mind a tiny trek, park where we live south of Wilshire, where the parking is free 'cept for street sweeping days and a few permit only zones, cross the boulevard and buy what you can comfortably carry back to your ride. read more

This store location has to be consistently the most frustrating experience ever. I'm not even gonna be returning because every time I do, I leave in frustration. Drove 20 min here and it wasn't open. The posted hours sign says it opens at noon on Sunday, but it was 12:12 and not open. There were other people waiting for the store to open too. One woman who had been waiting since noon said she saw someone turn the lights on and then nothing. That woman also tried calling the store twice, but no one answered. Especially given how difficult it is to find parking--not to mention the cost of parking--it's truly inconsiderate to just sit inside and not open when you're supposed to. This review is for one experience. Otherwise, this is a really fun store and I recommend going in. I bought this hair dye for an event. Total came to $4.60 so I had to spend another $2 on something I didn't want so that I could use my debit card. That 40¢ couldn't be forgiven was mildly annoying but not the huge issue. Upon taking off the cap, it comes off easily so it pulled straight up without hitting the nozzle, the nozzle fell right onto the floor. I stuck it back on and tried to use it. It sprayed a couple short bursts of air and then proceeded to leak out just about everything but the glitter. I called and asked for a refund and was told that it could maybe be replaced. I said that the event was yesterday but was told no refund because it had been opened and they don't sell bad products. I know that I was not sold a broken product on purpose but that was the case and I should have received a refund. The issue should have been taken up with staff or the company. I ended up losing $7. read more

I usually come purchase stuff here. On this particular day, I walked in and the lady that was working there kept following me around the store watching me. She was acting like she was sweeping. Everywhere I went, she'd follow me and pretend to "sweep." She then was muttering stuff in a different language. I'm obviously NOT going to steal, since everything has a theft sensor on it. Such a cute store! I came here when walking around Westwood with my family and was pleasantly surprised by the variety. They had so many different things and you could definitely find a gift for any type of person here. They had a huge assortment of stuffed animals which was super cool and I loved all of them. The staff was also very friendly, I was greeted by Dorian and KC who were both very helpful and kind. This gift store is handy for odd gifts, but much of the pop culture stock is available elsewhere and at cheaper prices. This store is always fun for wandering, and there's a large selection of cards and stationary. However, there are never enough employees. I've seen lines of ten to fifteen people waiting to pay for small items. The managers here seem especially uninterested and are often rude to customers. What an amazing experience at Aahs! I went out without a sweatshirt and was so happy to find this store open. Kathy and Xelene were a tremendous help. They pointed me in the direction of sportswear and told me about their sales on the sports items fr 2020. They picked out 3 different options for me; a Lakers hoodie, an all black LA Kings sweatshirt and a Blue Dodgers zip up. I left very happy with my purchase thanks to these amazing ladies! read more

So the lady today (I'm assuming is the manager or owner since she was quite stern) said that this one jellyfish float was not damaged even though the packaged was a repackaged item that was taped together ( I needed two for an event). I asked her three times if the product wasn't damaged and she said "a customer wanted to see it for a second that's why it's opened" I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt so I bought it, but guess what... the float was ripped on the side. I agree with some of the other comments here. The staff and especially security is rude. They don't hide their fear of theft and it expresses itself in micro aggressions that at times have racial undertones. They stop black men with small book bags from entering the store and tell them "no bookbags are allowed" but allow women mainly white women to enter with small bookbags,large duffle and reusable bags. Their explanation for not allowing small book bags was they do it for "theft reasons" but could not explain why they allow other large bags. They have nowhere to hold the book bags that can't come in and just rudely tell black male customers they can't enter. They do this while touting a "blacklivesmatter" sign on their window. Walked in at about 8:15pm on a Sunday. We knew they would be closing at 9pm, my girlfriend found what she wanted and purchased it. I was browsing around and had maybe looked through 5 isles or so, not even a quarter of the store before they kicked us out because they had to close the store at 8:30pm. I wasn't looking for anything specific but I was digging the stuff I did see, so chances are if they would've actually used some sort of customer service skills to ask me if I needed some help or a polite reminder about their closing time I wouldn't be writing this review. These people just wanted to get home and I get that but kicking someone out 30 minutes before without even gauging if they were looking for something wouldn't get them out that much sooner. 2014 YELP 365 CHALLENGE - 161/365 This is a very interesting store...they have the most random stuff here. I've always seen Aahs stores around LA, but this one was the first one I ever step foot in! This store was surprisingly huge. It's deceiving from the outside and looks like a pretty small store, but it's actually really big. Aahs has a TON of stuff, basically the majority of it is novelty-like stuff similar to Spencer's Gifts, or the novelty section of Urban Outfitters, but MUCH LARGER. They had full on sections of popular TV shows like Duck Dynasty, Big Bang Theory, Breaking Bad, etc., to popular memes like Grumpy Cat, to an entire section of the store devoted to Hello Kitty, to all your favorite super heroes, etc. They have the most random stuff here and if you're in need for a quirky White Elephant gift or a joke present, this is totally the place for you. They also had a TON of decorations, like gift wrap, decorations, greeting cards, etc. for any type of party or celebration you may be partaking in. The entire left side of the store has everything party-related you could ever need. Honestly, I don't think I'll really buy anything here unless I'm trying to get a gag gift for somebody, but it was really quite interesting to peruse and see all of the different novelties they had. read more
