My boyfriend had just stopped next door at the pasta shop to pick something up for me when he noticed this cute little boutique on his walk back to the car. He immediately said, "This looks like something you'd love," and walked in while we were on FaceTime so I could look around and decide if I wanted anything. When he first walked in, the greeting was warm. They said hello, asked how he was doing, and everything seemed perfectly normal. But within seconds--before he'd even had a chance to browse--an employee, who I believe was the owner, asked, "Is there a reason you're filming?" He explained that he wasn't filming at all; he was simply on FaceTime with me so I could shop with him remotely. She then said they sometimes have influencers come in and that she'd rather give them a proper tour. To be honest, that explanation didn't make sense to us and felt more like an after-the-fact justification than the real reason for the question. No one had asked for a tour, hinted that they wanted one, or even had enough time to look around yet. It's a small boutique that's easy to browse on your own, and we were simply shopping like any other customers. What made the interaction especially disappointing is that my boyfriend is a Black man who walked in, politely greeted everyone, and was doing nothing more than helping me shop over FaceTime. Whether someone is on FaceTime, taking a quick photo, or recording a short video while shopping, they shouldn't immediately be made to feel as though they're doing something wrong. I can't speak to the employee's intent, but I can speak to how the interaction made us feel: unwelcome and unfairly scrutinized. We love discovering and supporting small businesses, and we fully intended to buy something. Instead, we left immediately because the entire atmosphere changed. We genuinely thought we'd stumbled across a hidden gem, but unfortunately we walked away feeling judged rather than welcomed. read more

Happened to be in the neighborhood and decided to stop in. Cool store but pretty pricey. Did a quick once around but didn't see anything I couldn't live without especially for those prices. They did have a nice selection of products...everything from hand cream to clothes and kitchenware to children's toys. Would be a cool place to do some gift buying if you had the budget. Managed to find parking easily on the street and the employees were friendly and welcoming. read more

This is an adorable gift shop. I was in the neighborhood dropping something off at the neighbor UPS and decided to pop in because the window displays drew me in. I love supporting a small business and there is such a variety of products - I came in around Christmas time looking for stocking stuffers and they have this whole side wall of small products organized by color where I was able to fulfill my task. The prices vary across the store but you generally have to pay a little bit more to shop small, which I am ok with because of the quality of the store and the kindness of the staff. Gifted has completely up-leveled my gifting game. Gifted moved across the street about a year ago, next to our much loved breakfast spot FOOD, and I couldn't be happier. Gifted has everything you need for birthdays, holidays, hostess gifts and just a little something for yourself. Also, fabulous cards for every occasion. The owner has a great eye, and they have gifts at every price point, but the key to Gifted is the folks who work there. Case in point, my niece went off to sleep away camp and I wanted to keep up my cool-aunt vibe - I walked in, told them my niece's age and situ, they asked a few questions and bam - I left with the perfect gift, wrapped in clear cellophane (so the camp counselors would know it wasn't candy to be confiscated) and I was off in 10 minutes. I visited this charming store for the first time today. There are so many lovely and unique gifts from jewelry, cards, fragrances, and books. The items for children are so special including hand knitted sweaters, a variety of mobiles and darling clothing and bath sets for newborns. The staff is so kind and helpful.
