Driving around the city, I suddenly realized i had a very flat tire. My friend, who was also in the car, pointed out that we were next to this AAA location and should pull in. The staff was super helpful right away, telling us where to park and who to ask for when we walked inside. We were helped pretty quickly, and my tires were changed without too much of a wait or hassle. Here is where I have a small complaint. At the end of the appointment, after I had already paid up, I was asked if I wanted the alignment checked as was told I would "mess up the car and new tires" if I did not take the precaution to have this done. My friend, who knew about cars asked if we could come back the next day, and we were told yes, but I should really do it now or I could really damage the new tires. Fine. Felt a little pressured, but I am not super knowledgeable, about this, and neither was my friend, so we said sure. The complaint about this is: This particular task ended up taking over an hour and a half. This is after I was told it takes only a few minute. the frustrating this is that they had already moved my car back outside and I would now have to wait much longer to have this done. Also, I had already paid for the labor and tires, so I now had to pay a second time, for more labor and another service. Had they asked me from the beginning or before the car was totally done, I would have signed off on it and things would have been handled all at one time and with one payment. Instead we had to wait another hour and a half before we could pay and leave. Overall, the service wasn't bad, the staff was friendly and helpful. However, I wish the staff would have told me the alignment check was needed before they finished changing the tires. This ended up taking so much extra time and made it a larger expense than necessary. read more

Since they closed the center city store location, I thought I'd try this one to get some road maps for an upcoming trip. Yeah, I know, kind of old fashioned, but you know, Waze tells you how to get there, a map shows you where you are. The irony, though, is that I needed a better map than Waze or pin on the Yelp map to find this place. I started out calling the store at 4:15 PM on a weekday to confirm that they had the maps I needed. I got their recording saying they close at 5:00 PM so I should call back when they're open. WHAT?! So I had to call the regional office, complained about the So. Philly store lack of phone access. After wasting even more time on the phone, they patched me through to the So. Philly store. They assured me they had the maps I needed, and they'd be there until 7:00 PM. But not a word about their location, like "you'll find us behind the Home Depot" or "turn left on ..." And the regional office staff person says she'll pass my complaint on about the way they're running their phone system, but of course I never hear anything more about that. I drive down there through heavy traffic, and it turns out that 1601 S. Chris Columbus Boulevard is not exactly an obvious location. On Waze, that address takes you to Pier 70 Boulevard, so you're dumped into the vast parking wasteland between Home Depot, Walmart, AC Moore, et al. After circling the parking area and not seeing anything, I try calling the store, but now (4:20 PM) my call is bounced to the NE store again. Poor Yolanda who answers is in her first 2 weeks on the job, so she has no idea where this store is. She's trying to look it up on the computer, can't find it, and she asks her co-workers, who tell her "it's right across the street from IKEA." Somebody else ventures a guess that it's "at United Artists." Whoa, people, now I know I'm really in trouble. I've now wasted 20 minutes, at least, searching for the store and getting no help from them on the phone. I tell Yolanda to call the store, find out where it is, and call me back, thank you. I do eventually get a call back from Yolanda, who leaves a message - but by now I have to be driving to my next appointment. Huge waste of time all around. You want good road maps? Go to the tourist info places on the interstates after you cross the state line. Don't bother with AAA. read more

The best experience I have ever had at a AAA. Let me count the ways... 1. A friendly greeting upon arrival and 3 open podiums: so no line! 2. Service was fast, kind, and accommodating. 3. My AAA membership scored me a big discount on passport photos. 4. Amenities include free coffee and bottled water, a kids play room, comfy seating, and free wifi (used mostly by those waiting for car service). 5. The tour book display is set up like a lounge. You can review any book or map before purchasing. 6. There is also a travel shop stocked with items like travel laundry bags, airplane neck pillows, and more. 7. There is plenty of parking because it's in south Philadelphia. The Center City one used to have zero parking and was in the middle of the central business district. I would most definitely visit this location again. Bravo! read more

While the car was under their care, they allowed someone to live in the car leaving behind a mess of food wrappers, cigarettes, drug paraphernalia and general filth. DONT GO HERE if you need your car back within 2-3 weeks because that's how long it takes just for your car to get diagnosed. Usually I have no huge issues here (or so I thought). But today I walked in to see if they had time for an oil change. The employee I was waiting on to check me in was being pretty condescending. He kept passive-aggressively telling me to "give him a minute" when I was literally just standing there patiently to begin with. I was absolutely not rushing him - I've been in customer service. But after the third time he said it, I felt uncomfortable enough with the idea of interacting with him that I told him "nvm I'm just gonna go to Valvoline." WELL I did go to Valvoline. And as they went over everything for my car, I specifically asked if I needed a new air filter because at my last oil change at AAA, I was told it needed to be replaced (that had been nearly EIGHT months prior), but I had decided to wait. The guy at Valvoline informed me my air filter was perfectly fine, so tread lightly at this AAA location. I wouldn't have even written this review if it had only been about an employee's attitude - everyone is still entitled to a rough day, especially with the world the way it is right now, but deceptiveness doesn't fly with me. read more

I went to pick my car up after a week and a half and the contents of my glove box and center console were all over the floor and seat on the passenger side. Not only was it left a "mess" but MULTIPLE items and bags from my car were stolen. I called to complain and the only thing they had to say was "Yeah we have been having a problem with theft." No further help or concern at all. They were the only ones in possession of the car AND the only set of keys. I am extremely angry and frustrated knowing I will not be getting any of my items returned and they can continue to steal from customers. read more

I booked and appointment for an inspection this morning and left my car at 8AM. I was told it would take take two hours and that I would receive a phone call. I took and Uber home and waited. By the time 12:30 rolled around I still hadn't received a call so I called them and they told me it was ready and so I ubered back. Made the mistake of bringing my car here for inspection because it was convenient & I didn't have time to take it to my usual place. They told me I was going to need a part replaced that would cost me close to $500... maybe I could've believed it, but when I got a second opinion (from a place that specializes in the EXACT thing AAA said needed to be replaced) they said it was fine. Now, here's the thing that made me wonder more about the inspection done at AAA. My roommate took her car here for inspection (clearly, we didn't learn the first time) and they told her the SAME THING they told me. When she also took her car elsewhere for a second opinion, what happened? She was told it was fine, no problem. Moral of the story, if you're told a "ball bearing" needs replacing by someone at AAA, get a second opinion. Or just save yourself time in general and take your car elsewhere from the start. read more

I must say our last visit here was drastically different than the first few. I'm not sure if they hired ALL new staff or just a few gems, but the entire crew here today, from the intake girl, the insurance guy, the photographer and the travel agent were so knowledgeable, personable, efficient and helpful!!! The women we sat down with to help us find information regarding a vehicle on our upcoming trip overseas was extremely professional and her desk was filled with photos from her travels around the world. This not only impressed me but assured me she was well-traveled and knows what she's talking about and guess what, she did. This was a completely different type of interaction I had with the girl who once sat in the same seat. While I kind of dreaded and warned my husband about the experience we were in for, I'm happy to say, I was completely wrong and so pleasantly surprised with our stop this morning! Wheew! I hope these folks are here to stay and feel more at ease using them for resources in the future and more comfortable recommending them. Thanks for all of the help you guys!! Usually great experiences at this location! However, this time my car was unlocked when dropped off at the lot. The business was closed for the holiday weekend so I was notified Tuesday that my car, and others that were left unlocked, had items stolen. The location gave me a number to call to make a claim. NO ONE WANTS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. Roadside assistance is saying "since you are stating the theft occurred after the driver dropped off your vehicle we would not open a damage claim as AAA is not liable as this incident occurred after the vehicle was out of the drivers possession..". I locked my vehicle, in the towing and dropping off process it was unlocked and then they failed to lock it at the lot. As a member I really expected AAA to take responsibility for their mistake. read more

Had a dead battery and called AAA to come jump start my car. Technician was there within 45 minutes (on a Friday at 5pm rush hour in the middle of the city - very quick response!). Technician tested my battery on the spot and told me it was a battery and alternator problem. Told me I would need to get my car towed. He was able to change the call from a roadside assistance call to a tow call on the spot, which took about 5 minutes. Tow truck came 1 hour later. Tow truck driver (Will) was extremely cautious with my car and informative about next steps. He towed my car to AAA that night. The next morning (Saturday) at 7:20am, I received a call and talked to Marlee at AAA, who assured me the technician would be evaluating my car that morning! Received multiple status update calls from Marlee throughout the morning, reviewing in detail the cost and job breakdown. Turns out I just needed a battery replaced. Car was done by 12pm. Total cost was extremely fair/average for new car battery. Thank you Will & Marlee!! read more

I have only done routine stuff with my car here, like oil change and state inspection, which were done promptly and efficiently. They kept me informed throughout the process. They also worked on my fiancé's car, which AAA also towed for us. It was barely running and they brought it back from the dead. That took a few days but I was skeptical it would run again at all so I appreciate the time they took to get it working. A AAA membership is worth so much more than it costs. This location also helped me resolve an EZ Pass issue for him and gave us travel discounts. read more

I cannot use AAA again. Do not trust the people answering the telephone. Ask for their name. Reconfirm the appointment the day before. Twice I have arrived for an appointment only for the repair rep to inform me he had no record of it and suggested I return another day. On a third time, he had a record of only one of the several items requested and invited me to come back another day. I have been told I had never made an appointment or had not called this location. The people are nice, if hapless. Prices are good, if and when any repairs get done. read more

The person who helped me was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. He was also very thorough and made sure all of the right things were checked off so that I would be able to drive an ATV. For the auto service shop, STAY AWAY. If you want to pay a lot of money for an inspection, waste 2 days of your time, and still NOT get your inspection ticket for a made-up non mechanical issue go to this place. They would not issue me an inspection sticker bc of an issue with my windows. When I brought the car to other mechanics (and I've been getting my same car/windows certified for 14 years without issue), they said there was no issue and the AAA people were just giving me a hard time, and that I should I file a complaint. Luckily there are other reasonable auto shops in Philly so you don't have to waste your time at this place. read more

What was supposed to be an hour wait for a battery change (which is a very very long time) turns out to be a two hour wait at a $144 cost. And that's with the labor cost waived. It's very unacceptable, if they would've said 2 hours we wouldn't have agreed to this. We thought this place would be a save haven for those without a local mechanic but maybe we were wrong. The one star is for Phil who helped us and was kind while we waited for our car. Besides that, there was no apologies for the long wait or the inconvenience or for lying about the wait time. I am a AAA member but had never been to the service center. It is at a good location and is thankfully very easy to get to. The building itself is large and spacious. There were many employees working and I was greeted quickly. I came here for passport photos, and as a member, I paid $8.50. They were printed out immediately, the whole experience took less than 5 minutes. They also offer currency exchange, the rate seemed decent but be aware that it changes every day. In addition, they sell travel guides (Lonely Planet) and other travel items you may need for a vacation. read more

Learned a very expensive lesson about waiting till the last business day to get state inspection. Passed emissions because I drove fewer than 5000 miles in the last year. They got their pound of flesh by claiming I needed to have my rear breaks replaced. Was told PA has no grace period for rectifying a problem that caused the inspection failure so I was unable to take it somewhere for a second opinion. I had the breaks replaced just last year - fewer than 5000 miles ago. They charged me $1400! My regular mechanic place was closed due to vacation and I assumed the AAA brand was reputable and figured that they wouldn't rip off their members (been members since 1984). Maybe I got the treatment I got because I'm a woman who clearly doesn't know much about cars. Disgraceful business practices. DO NOT GO HERE FOR AUTO REPAIR. read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I had my car towed here as recommended by AAA roadside assistance. My car was broken into and ransacked while parked in the lot but no one called to inform me of this. I just happened to read some reviews from others and decided to go check on my car after a few days of it sitting in their lot with no updates. Sure enough it was broken into! My car was towed there in the first place because my catalytic converter was stolen. The last thing I should have had to worry about was my car getting broken into while in their care. My car was there for a total of 4 days before I got it towed to a different repair shop that was able to give me an estimate within the same day my car arrived. I had never received any clear updates, estimate, or the slightest bit of customer service in my 4 day experience with this AAA location. This AAA center was pretty new and it's just as good as it can get. 100x better than the AAA that is local to my town, honestly. The staff members were highly professional and gave me the best customer service experience I ever had in all South Philly. I was visiting family in South Philly for a weekend last week. On Saturday morning, I realized that my front right tire had slowly deflated over night due to a nail :( I called AAA and the tow truck came within 15 minutes to take my car here. It was a busy Saturday, but they were trying their best to get working on my car and get me out of there asap. The waiting area was very nice and comfortable. They provide free wi-fi, keurig coffee, and a small play corner for kids. It was kind of a one-stop service center for anything AAA, so I was able to check out some insurance and travel special offers that they were having too while waiting. read more

The tag and title process in PA is difficult and PennDOT essentially requires you to use either AAA or a small shop for a Tag & Title transfer between states. Just do your research beforehand and bring the correct paperwork. If you have a lien have them do the title request prior to coming in for the transfer. All said and done, AAA did a good job at a fairly difficult process. They were much easier to deal with then PennDOT. read more

I should have read the reviews here before I got my first state inspection done here in Philly. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE FOR A STATE INSPECTION. Tags and title are A-ok. I was new to Philly, and decided to trust them with my 2007 Toyota. They failed me for -crack in the windshield on the passenger side (Philly law states that only cracks on the drivers side of the glass constitute a failed inspection) And a zillion other tiny problems. My car broke down in Route 95 in Philly. I called AAA and had my car towed to the Philly AAA care care center. They charged me $1,497 - of that $850 in labor. I was assured by Barry, the head mechanic, that my car after the repairs would be good for a long time. Well, I didn't even make it home that day and had to call AAA for another tow. The estimate for repairs is $454 to replace a coil and plug! I've been without my car for 10 days now and customer service in response to this problem is non existent. For days I've been calling the Philly car care center and AAA member services and I haven't gotten any where. I'm on unemployment and paying all this money is a problem right now especially when Barry guaranteed the car would be good for awhile. I do not recommend AAA for mechanical work! Tried to get my title transfer taken care of and confirmed prior to going in that my title was there, which the woman on the phone did confirm. Due to the pandemic I had to wait a week later for an available appointment. I went there only to find out they lost my title! The girl who signed for it just shrugged her shoulders when asked where she put it by her coworkers. They also tried to act like I just came in without confirming anything and questioned if I really had it sent there. They knew they didn't have my title before coming in yet they never called me to tell me prior. I just had to share the very good service I just got at AAA on Columbus Blvd. I bought my new car out of state and needed a PA state inspection-- fast! I called and spoke with Fred. He was very friendly and professional and got me an appointment within 2 days--and it was the end of the month, their busy time. When I got there, Barry was also very helpful and thorough. And the wait wasn't nearly as bad as I had anticipated. So, bravo, AAA south Philly! You will continue to be my go-to all-things-auto shop. read more

They failed me for windshield wipers (?) and then REFUSED to let me take my car, claiming it was illegal for me to leave because the wipers had failed. Then proceed to charge me $100 for new wipers. Absolutely disgusted with the behavior of this AAA location. I had previously contacted 2 other AAA's in the area and never got a response. This one was the only one that responded to me, so I thought it'd be a great experience, but boy, I was wrong. To start off, I was on the phone with a man, however, I could not hear the first letter of his name, but it was either Jasper or Casper. I had a question about getting my car registered, and he was very rude. I knew that part of the process of getting my car registered included the VIN tracing, and wanted to know if someone at AAA could also do that. Besides just saying "VIN" I also said vehicle identification number because I understand that it may be hard to hear on the phone. However, he completely snapped at me, saying he "doesn't know what a vehicle identification number is." I'm sorry, how can you work at a place that is very focused on cars and not know what that is? I tried to be the bigger person and tried to politely end the convo by thanking him anyways and that I will be going into this location for the services, only for him to snap at me again. (I was told prior to this that there is no need for an appointment, so that was not the problem here.) Extremely confused and very annoyed at this point, I said, "Yes...I am interested in getting my car registered at AAA." And he didn't even bother to answer. This man is mad at me....for being interested in using this store location to get my car registered. Wtf? I very much wanted to just go somewhere else, however, with the other AAA's being very unresponsive and my time for getting my car registered running out, I had no choice but to use this location despite being treated horribly before I even stepped foot into this location. In addition, the person who emailed me a list of what AAA needed to get my car registered and the lady who reached out to me by phone when I first contacted this place also gave me the same checklist, only for me to arrive and have something missing because they both failed to mention it. After getting the paperwork done, I was told that my registration would be mailed to me, only for me to be forced to come pick it up. I don't mind picking it up, but I'm not sure why I was given false information about it. I do not recommend AAA to anyone after what I had to deal with. Spend your money somewhere else instead of at a location that is unprofessional and unorganized. I cannot even begin to explain how grateful I am to Randy at AAA South Philly. I had this messy and confusing situation regarding a suspended registration and a money order from a year ago and a cryptic letter from PennDOT... Randy helped me so much through the whole process. He helped me understand what happened, then I called him to have help understanding a letter I received that said to follow the instructions but there were no instructions, and then I went back and he helped me restore the registration and he even found the missing payment I made to the state. Everything about this horrible horrible car experience is a million times better thanks to Randy at AAA!!!! read more

The girl that takes the payments looks and acts like she don't even want to be there.Not friendly at all . I was very surprised they had such a rude person because the guys that came out to tow my car were more then happy to help me ,but once you get to the service center is a totally different deal. I had a check my dad written out to pay for my car and they wouldn't accept it because they said they needed my Dad to be there with a license. I told them that my dad has dementia and Parkinson's and don't have a license anymore. I even got him on the phone, but they didn't care at all !!!! I said how am I suppose to get him if I don't have a ride and would not allow me to leave my handbag and let me use my car. I went for a PA inspection as a last resort because the place I've been going to was closed. I should've read the review before going. I went in for a simple inspection. My truck has less than 80k miles on it and is in great condition, however I am due for brakes this year. It is not a major safety concern that would elicit failing an inspection. In hopes to make money they failed me for inspection and gave me an estimate of $400+ for them to fix it. Oh, and for wiper blades! What a joke. AND TO TOP IT OFF, I left and my engine light came on before I got halfway home! I would recommend NOT going here! I will be going elsewhere to finish the inspection even if I have to pay again. And now I have to go fix whatever they did to trigger my engine light. Effin crooks! read more
