This is a challenging review as I love models and craft stores and I thoroughly recommend new hobbyist to consider visiting a store just like this for inspiration. However, in the era of online shopping, I will say that most of the toys, tools, and model kits are a few deviations more expensive than their online counterparts. For new parents out there, this store has a great selection of Melissa and Doug toys (high quality wood-based toys), so if you're around the area and need to pick up a quick birthday gift, this place has it all.

I'm not 'crafty' or into any of the hobbies there (trains and cars to build) but I did like the selection of crayons, markers, googly eyes! and other (easy) things to do and make. They even have PAINT BY NUMBERS! I almost bought one for . . . myself but didn't ; ) The prices are a bit higher than Target/Walmart but at least you're giving back to the community and a 'mom and pop' type of shop, which I'm more cognizant of, thanks so my boyfriend.

Selection of paints and tamiya model kits is amazing, prices of items are quite high and is definitely charged at a premium.

I've always dreamed of being able to write in beautiful script. I just haven't gotten around to it…read more But I popped in here over the weekend and it was so lovely to see there is a shop like this where you can find all sorts of different inks, pens, and notebooks. Yes, I'm the kind of person who likes to touch blank notebooks. I didn't want to interrupt their staff, who were happily chatting with other folks who had questions, so I enjoyed the time perusing the shelves. The store is bright, modern, and well done. I understand they also offer classes, which would be a rare treat.

I took a beginners class ( with Maureen Peters) and it was awesome with lots of 1 on 1 supervision. Cant tell you how relaxing it was to sit and form my letters in that atmosphere (I'll be back for more classes). They also offer other paper related arts which are hard to find elsewhere. Their calligraphy caters from brides-to-be looking to finesse their weddings to experts who may want a touch up class. Either way, this treasure trove for the calligraphy lover boasts many specialized inks in an array of beautiful colors. This is definitely THE place to check out if you so long for the art of learning and indulging in the beautiful art of CALLIGRAPHY!!

Although I stayed in the back I eavesdropped often to see how my niece was doing. Jocelynn is amazing with her young students. She engages with them in a way that they all seem to really enjoy; she jokes, she tells stories, she listens to them. In the middle of class she gives them a small break and does an art history lesson. I think it's wonderful that students get to see works of great artists. They talk about and discuss the work of the artist being discussed while eating a snack. She sells art supplies in her studio at a fraction of the price you'd get at the store, and she didn't push me to buy. As a matter of fact I really wanted to buy supplies and she told me to hold off until my niece was sure she wanted to stick with it and was comfortable. My niece had a good experience. Although she's an amazing self-taught artist Jocelynn taught her the correct way to use pencils and how that she should draw what she sees not what's in her head. There was a little bit of a back and forth with my niece insisting that she was doing it the right way but I'm telling you Jocelynn has the patience of Job. And I'm sure she's used to dealing with artists who are stuck in their ways (even if they are only 9 years old). But all in all she enjoyed the class. Jocelynn gave her individual attention (I don't know how but all of the students received one on one time with her). Watching and listening to Jocelynn and my niece in class confirmed that getting her into an art class is the right decision because it has to be easier to develop good habits as an artist now than later.

I've had the privilege of studying with Jocelynn for 4 years and have learned a great deal from her. She is an experienced oil artist and sculptor and uses her many talents to instruct students in a variety of mediums in every class. I began instruction with Jocelynn as an adult learner, kids out of the house, and my only experience was drawing with a No. 2 pencil. Jocelynn has taught me how to see, how to draw, to work with values, with dark and light. She has taught me color theory, and how to use it in a composition. I have learned to work in charcoal and chalk, oils, and pastel pencils. Jocelynn is very reasonably priced, making classes very accessible and enabling me to afford to take two and sometimes three two-hour class per week. My Studio LLC has been a real find for me! Please treat yourself to a visit to Jocelynn's artist and school web pages. Jocelynn's work is available to view and student work is available on the school site.
